No, people pay taxes everywhere. In Europe too. Taxes are taken automatically from your salary and so is insurance. "Free" health-care is literally just being forced to pay your insurance. We sat on stools behind a high counter. We had to reach up to make change, etc. A guy comes in and points a gun at the girl next to me. Demanding her money. After collecting her money, he moved to me after my customer left. Having a gun pointed at your face is sort of nerve-wracking. He then left in a hurry. Later he was caught and he apologized to both of us. He had been in the merchant marine and was now out. He had no idea how to care for himself and wanted to go to a federal prison so he could get the 3 hots and a cot. Banks in those days had armed guards. Phone company did not. Side note: we were watched by an observer, on no particular schedule, to make sure we looked at the customers, etc. Oddly enough, there was an observer across the room at the time of the robbery. She left before the conclusion and no idea we were robbed. She wrote both of us up for customer mistreats! She did not know of the robbery until she read it on the paper!!!

When I worked at a grocery store in West Texas, we had a man shop lift a $0.50 bottle of water and did it in a way that he was going to get caught, so he'd be arrested and able to go to jail.. it was 110 degrees outside that day. The store did call the cops, but said they weren't pressing charges, but instead got the police to come out and get this man some help. They took him over to the homeless shelter, got him set up there and they even bought him some food, clothes, and toiletries. It's really sad that in the United States there are people willing to be arrested and go to jail when they need help. Where I live currently in Virginia, the local hospital does charity care, meaning if you are below a certain income, they won't charge you

You know that's even worse than paying for access to healthcare in taxes, right? How do you think insurance companies make money??? Obviously, not everyone gets hurt, not everyone even ever has to visit the doctor. But it's still a good idea to have health insurance if you can so you don't go bankrupt from one critical situation like a severe car accident. Insurance companies don't and couldn't ever hope to make the money necessary to deal with tens of millions of people getting into severe car accidents at once. Luckily, that's simply impossible. Even at worst, a majority of customers will still never need to fall back on their insurance, and as a result are simply throwing their money into a hole.
