  • Exploring an abandoned mine which may have gold and platinum. The main portion of the mine adit is 100 meters long with a flooded winze and possible lower level. The mine adit was struck on a massive quartz vein which may contain gold, platinum and iron sulphides. During our visit we almost had a bear walk into the mine after we had gone in!!

      Black bears very usually keep their distance from humans. But every now and again, you'll get a abnormally predatory bear -- almost always a male. These loner predator males will stalk your ass. If they get you, they won't necessarily do a very good job killing you before they start eating ... throw your arse into some bushes, take a few bites of soft parts, then drag some brush over the top of you to save you for later. :-)

      We went into the mine a few feet and I forgot something in my truck when I came out it had crossed the road and was only 15 feet away heading straight for the entrance we jumped in the truck and it stood up on his back legs saw us and ran into the bushes. Seem surprised we where there. The odd thing is last time we came here was 5 months ago and while we where inside the mine someone shot and dumped that bear carcass right by the entrance we came out and it was all skinned and nothing left but bones, head and paws.

    Are you allowed to carry bear spray or a 45 for protection for the just in case of self protection ?.

    • @911mining
      @911mining  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bear spray yes we all have bear spray and bear bangers, depends where we go and how many people we have with us we may bring a gun. No handguns allowed in Canada unless it's to and from a range, a few days ago we where way out in the bush and one of the guys brought an SKS. All depends on if you want to pack the extra weight around. 😉

  • @leannkennedy6568

    What do you carry as a means of protection? You've shown elk and now a bear... elk can be pretty aggressive.. at least in Idaho they have been.

    Is that yellow and black on the walls mineral seeping out and sedimenting?
    Would that be called an 'active' or a 'living' deposit?
    It seems that minerals are coming up out of the ground and precipitating right at the surface.

    • @911mining
      @911mining  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The black is sulfides, pretty much anything you see is sulfides or quartz.

    • @DeliciousDeBlair
      @DeliciousDeBlair 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@911mining My question is if the minerals are still welling up from their epithermal source to this location, or is it just leaching out of the rocks above the adit.

    It's good that the bear had some fear of you guys and ran away ! Strange with the person that skinned the bear last time and left it at the entrance.That is not a good idea, because other animals can be attracted to that corpse by the mine entrance.Be careful out there please....Maybe dam up the front entrance a bit so that there is at least 4-5 inches of water always there in the mines length to prevent some animals settling in there at times.

    Can anybody give me resonable ideas about what possible minerals would turn black/royal blue upon exposure to air once a rock is cracked open? I am seeing it often...this starts as a faint blue stain and darkens drastically after a few minutes. Most of this occurs in this maroon purple slate bedrock we have in alot of my area. Which where mineralized looks an awfull lot like jalpaite...

      There is a corner where a dark bush motorcycle trail dumps out on to a sunny powerline road up in the nakusp area. 3 times on that corner i have stopped my bike to have a drink or put on sunglasses or something have ended up withing 50 feet of a huge male cinnamon grizzly. Had to be 700 lbs. Every time he was just sitting around, and couldn't care less about me.....I just backed away slow until i was far enough away to change my underwear.....2 crazy things the place he likes to sit on the road, there are dozens and dozens of empty shotgun shells all over the place Other thing is when up there with people I never see him, only when I am up there alone..........That little dip is called "Griz Gulch"

      That was a decade or more ago. These things happen when you live in the bush. Just be bear aware, never panic and back away slow. I used to wake up to black bears under the apple trees in my yard gorging on half fermented apples in the fall. We would try to keep the apples cleaned up to keep the bears away but once they knew where the trees were, they always came back. Meh, bears gotta eat too.
