Sebastián Cariñanco they have mods which charge via the smart connectors at the back.. leaving your usb c free for music. But yes beyond this.. that is when you dont have a battery pack mod.. you can't. 😟
Thanks for this review, went and got one, side note, my vehicles instantly pick it up as a player and start playing without having to press play! So happy.
Because everything is Bluetooth now anyway. But it also comes with an adapter for a headphone jack if you're still in need of plugging in. It just plugs into the charging port and the other end has aux.
I just can't wrap my mind around the fact, that the manufacturers are not thinning out the top and bottom bezels as well. Maker like lg, HTC, and Huawei come close to doing so. I'm sure a few others as well. On the same token, front firing speakers and the lack thereof. Ughhh, one can only dream. Another great video and review. Kudos
Finally, a review that answers all the questions. I Have a 2nd Gen Moto X which is getting tired and wasn't sure which Moto to replace it with. Now I do ;-) Thanks - PS - Subscribed
Nice but is the Z Force going to be Verizon locked forever or will is it going to be sold unlocked by next year or so? Looks great but carrier locked is always a bummer.
I've had this phone for less than a week and am falling out of love quickly. Its eternally warm or even hot. Place the extra battery on it (I have the Tumi) and it gets pretty hot. Its taller than most competitive phones, for reasons that seem unclear, making it just a little awkward. Not happy about the lack of a 3.5mm jack, though I bought a Bose bluetooth headset recently and don't really need the jack now. I really don't like how slippery the case is, and there seems to no backpacks yet that change that (putting a case on it would make it way too big). I miss how grippy my old Droid turbo was. Micro SD is a big plus for FLAC music storage, as I don't want to convert my library to something compressed just for my phone. Moto mods so far are pretty unimpressive and more novelty than useful. I'm really not sure if I'm keeping it or not yet.
6:10-6:13,u forgot that this phone is a battery behemoth after a 2220 mAh(I read that, not sure of the capacity)charging case mod is put on the back.Solves the issue of listening to podcasts/music and charging the phone at the same time.Even the speaker mod would do if not travelling/in public places.
Is there an older device like this with the headphone jack? I'm currently with the SE, was deciding on switching to this phone (until hearing it has no Jack) or the G5.
Just like to add that it doesn't matter if they are only available on Verizon because Verizon now unlocks their phones so you can use it on any network . I have an iPhone 6 Plus from Verizon that I have used on cricket and Ting which are two GSM carriers.
My only problem with it, is the headphone jack, i mean, that small adapter is bound to be missing asap. But i really like the mod capability, it opens up new options and new ideas for the future. For me, Moto Z Force is my pick even though i'm not a power user but i like having a bigger battery.
The Moto Z force is my daily user I had to pass on the Moto Z battery size had a lot to do with my choice and the device seemed to be too fragile glass screen I just paid a bit more for the Moto Z force . Almost two years old now and I do still get good battery life and good performance from my phone! Looking too upgrading to the Moto Z3 it would have been nice to have had Gorilla Glass 6 or shatterproof ! The price of this new phone is one really good thing it has going for it and the specs are good as well !
I'm intrigued by Motorola's interpretation of a modular smartphone but I wonder if the viability for these lasts long term. A battery back is nice but isn't a battery bank that's compatible with future devices better? also the cost seems a bit higher than I'd like
At first I wasn't thinking about buying this phone, because of the lack of the headphone jack, know things have changed. Does the charging mod have an off and on switch to save power? there should be a mod with a headphone jack
Really nice design prefer the thinner version. Probably never use the mods including the mod but would buy ultra thin case for it. Hopefully moto doesn't out-price itself out of the market especially it's available around the same time Iphone 7 is out. One thing I never could understand why on screen keys especially as there's space just under the screen for physical keys. Really like the software very close to stock and no bs like Samsung phones.
6:15 WE CAN DO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First of all we need to connect the battery mod Then we can access wireless charging for both the phone and the mod Hence we can charge it while listening to music via headphones
idea... clear transparent case @ waterproof case @ large flashlight case @ headphone jack case @ Compute Stick case W10 @ SSD storage case @ e-ink secondary screen case @ joystick case @ large camera lens case @ signal booster case
Really if they were able to double the fingerprint render as a home button and have capacitive buttons like the OP3 then this would be one of the cleanest designed moto yet.
There is any problem in moto z slim like bettery dry issue and moto x pure edotion which one should i buy in 2019 in second hand refurbished please reply sir
My Moto X pure is still running fine with just some slow downs but the dual front facing speakers is so loud that I probably won't be upgrading to the Moto Z
It's a double meaning. Modifications and modules (since Lenovo isn't the first company to do this, people are more used to it meaning modules, as is the case with the LG G5 (also “Friends”?) and Project Ara).
I don't understand why you would have big bezels at the top and bottom of the device and not use this space for capacitive buttons. In my view, on screen buttons just needlessly take up screen real estate for buttons which would be better served by dedicated buttons.
how come you guys never mention that even though these devices are Verizon exclusives they are also factory unlocked, t-mobile,at&t users and any gms carriers will be able to use this device.
actually cameras are really different they both use sony sensors but the z force uses the sony imx388 and the z uses sony imx214 plus the z force has af with pdaf and laser af. so the z force not only has more mega pixels but a more advance sony sensor, check out the review at anandtech.
The guy is the best from all Android Authority !
thank you
agreed 👍
the best of AA and among the elites of tech reviewers 🙌👏
agree, josh is my favorite reviewer as well
Agreed

I'm wondering if the "mods" when the phone gets dropped will separate from the phone and start running everywhere.
+
I'm not sure if there are any details on exactly how to make the mods yet, so that might take a while to even start happening
of course, just get your game face on and concentrate...you shouldn't carry the projector around anyway, but the battery and speaker I carry.
i have the phone and the mods stick on pretty good and it takes a bit of power to pull it off but nothing youll struggle with
Any of those mods have a headphone jack built in?
no..but you can get an adapter which connects via usb type c
The adapter is included in the box.
+Akash Sen And what about an adapter to charge it at the same time you listen to music?
Sebastián Cariñanco
Yea, they didn't think about that apparently.
So happy.
This is the best review of the Moto Z I've seen so far, and I've seen a lot of them. Congrats👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
this is an excellent review of this amazing cell phones. the video and the voice of that guy make this so professional, love it!
I plug my phone into a 3.5mm aux cable every day, and my phone is a nice 7.3mm thin I don't need it any thinner, why remove the aux jack????
+Jonathan “Snow” Z. LOL they had the 2.5 mm one sometimes.
+Jonathan “Snow” Z. No actually there were old phones with a jack where you can charge them and plug some earphones
+Jonathan “Snow” Z. I swear an mp4 is a file format, I mean like for example my awful Motorola v220 had a 2.5 mm jack for those headsets.
Because everything is Bluetooth now anyway. But it also comes with an adapter for a headphone jack if you're still in need of plugging in. It just plugs into the charging port and the other end has aux.
+lainnygirl yeah but I don't ever need wireless headphones, aux ports are great, and what about charging while listening.
Glad we have Josh reviewing this beautiful and great phone. Good job Josh. You are the best AA reviewer

Great review Joshua! Waiting for the review on those Moto mods.
Finally, a review that answers all the questions. I Have a 2nd Gen Moto X which is getting tired and wasn't sure which Moto to replace it with. Now I do ;-) Thanks - PS - Subscribed
Whenever i have trouble sleeping, i just turned into Vergara's videos and let his soothing, calm voice lulls me into the abyss of bliss.
Best review I've seen on this phone. Excellent job!
Glad to know you're still rocking the Pebble, Josh! :)
Great video. Beautiful pictures. Wherever you took these pictures. Just amazing.
best phone 10/10 would buy the phone
if i have the money
lie down, try not to cry,cry alot..
Same story with me whenever a newer phone comes out. Hahahahaha.
Luke Ameen ha. :,)
True story :(
The camera is not the best, but is a good overall phone :)
It's the best for me :D
love your reviews joshua
Hey Josh. Looking forward to your evaluation of the Z2 Force update and the current state of MotoMods.
works with headsets that have mics. I have a military headset and with an aux adapter it fits and works with the mic on peltors contact 3s.
cross that with Beartooth and you have a multi function kit.
very informative. great video! saw this while walking by a Verizon store. i really want this phone! too bad i'm in AT&T
Nice but is the Z Force going to be Verizon locked forever or will is it going to be sold unlocked by next year or so? Looks great but carrier locked is always a bummer.
Great review | all the parts are just cover in the cool way that one can doo!!
just enjoyed watching 15:12 long video :D
just dope !!
Wooot josh is back for a review XD Keep it up AA :)
This was a great review guys and Happy it got Android Authority Editors Choice
I think the concept is great and hope more phones will follow this modular design.
Pretty excited really thinking about getting this over switching back to the Note7
This is modularity done right! Might very well be my next as my G3 is showing more and more of it's not so flattering quirks...
how secure are the mods attached? any chance of them accidentally coming off, or does it need to be deliberate?
I love the sharpness of your camera
What kind of launcher was he using at 4:17? It looked like Google Now but different slightly...
Impressive and interesting devices in every respect! Thanks for a great review, AA :)

I'm interested to see how other manufacturers take the idea of modular phones. I personally think it's a great idea when done properly.
Nice to see Moto going up ☝.
Another powerful review by Joshua! But im still gonna get the htc 10:)
I feel this is a very bold move by Moto.. Kudos to the simplicity of the modularity they have introduced. need more fun mods😍
how much for the price? when its gonna release at malaysia? and which is better this motorola or zenfone 3 D?
Great video Josh 👍
Excellent review Vergara shared👍
missed your review joshua!are you filipino by any chance?

What do you guys think is better the Moto Z or the One Plus 3... and after that which of them is better than the S7 edge?
My only problem with it, is the headphone jack, i mean, that small adapter is bound to be missing asap. But i really like the mod capability, it opens up new options and new ideas for the future. For me, Moto Z Force is my pick even though i'm not a power user but i like having a bigger battery.
been a moto fan since my first moto g. would love to get this and a battery pack mod
What kind of headphones are those? I've been looking for a really good pair that cover my ears rather than stick into them.
The Moto Z force is my daily user I had to pass on the Moto Z battery size had a lot to do with my choice and the device seemed to be too fragile glass screen I just paid a bit more for the Moto Z force . I really like how they implement the mods

Great Video!!! Keep up the good work!
agree! one of my favorite tech reviewers..

Nice hair dude u finally made it look awesome
I like the style element added to moto devices 🙌
is there an unlocked version coming out? is it still snapdragon 820? I heard it was moto z play and it has the headphone jack still
6:15
WE CAN DO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all we need to connect the battery mod
Then we can access wireless charging for both the phone and the mod
Hence we can charge it while listening to music via headphones
Awesome!!! Would want this!
Do we put a case on top of the cover?
Outstanding presentation!!
what material is used for the fps?? does it stands scratches despite the no crack display?
I always like android authority's phone review they are the best
come here before buying any phone
idea... clear transparent case @ waterproof case @ large flashlight case @ headphone jack case @ Compute Stick case W10 @ SSD storage case @ e-ink secondary screen case @ joystick case @ large camera lens case @ signal booster case
+Jonathan “Snow” Z. ya
The best part of this has got to be that its Moto, something different in current times, I like it a lot since it's not something everybody has.
Everyone will pich the bigger battery of the Z force, just for Pokémon GO
Tru
lol
'everyone' only a few people play it
Roasted
of course!
In September I'll buy it from the uk to get the international unlocked version... Just like i did with the force X i have
Good job Moto! This would be a very competituve device to other brands such as samsung and apple
I loved the phone and most exciting thing I loved about it is accessories function.
I was thinking of buying it but without that headphone jack I dont think it's worth it
Really if they were able to double the fingerprint render as a home button and have capacitive buttons like the OP3 then this would be one of the cleanest designed moto yet.
Best looking android phone out there. I love the stealthy design and it's so slim. Can't wait to get my hands on one.
i love moto devices since the the release of the moto g and now this is the one of the gorgeous phones in the world
best smartphone in the world now❤💓❤❤❤❤❤❤💜💛💚💗💗💗💟
Wish force variant had a headphone jack
6
what is editor's choice?
so whats the better choice axon 7 or z force?
Nice review, I like the mods
So the phone does support wireless charging?
The connector in the back is great idea
There is any problem in moto z slim like bettery dry issue and moto x pure edotion which one should i buy in 2019 in second hand refurbished please reply sir
wow....what a phone. it's a amazing phone. and decent and fantastic review. good job guys. keep going
My Moto X pure is still running fine with just some slow downs but the dual front facing speakers is so loud that I probably won't be upgrading to the Moto Z
Can't "mods" mean "modifications" instead of "modular(ity)"?
yes
agree with that
💁thank you

i like the mods that include JBL speaker and the projector alot
how come you guys never mention that even though these devices are Verizon exclusives they are also factory unlocked, t-mobile,at&t users and any gms carriers will be able to use this device.
At 13:50 what charger is that?
I miss my moto z Force i got it new in 2016 i still have it for my Back up phone one more thing to mention it has a very good camera!
actually cameras are really different they both use sony sensors but the z force uses the sony imx388 and the z uses sony imx214 plus the z force has af with pdaf and laser af. so the z force not only has more mega pixels but a more advance sony sensor, check out the review at anandtech.
love the clean android look
Anyone know if the Force will be released in Europe? Thanks.
I think in september
The Force is everywhere, all around us.
They both are yes, check Moto's website
+Luke Russell Thank you for this. I wish you and your family lifelong happiness.
+Luke Russell hahahha
To me both of them look great!
can you do a moto X pure edition vs moto Z force?
The best way to sum up the description of Moto Z is "The best innovation of the year"
What widget is on the main screen?! Like it, but i can't find it in my Moto X Pure((
You can download something similar from the Droid Maxx2/Turbo2 version online. Usable without root.
+Chen Ming Liang Thanks! Will check)
Oneplus3 vs Moto Z vs Axon 7? Considering to sell the OnePlus 3 for this..
Moto definitely nailed the idea of modularity with these phones.
Very good review.
