I've also heard people refer to this as "Kuridas". I personally use "presas" in honor of the late GM. The different labels are the reason why I just used the generic term "flow drill" to be safe. Haha! Thanks for the support of our channel! :)

Hi Pilar! The Philippines was a colony of Spain for 333 years, which is why our Tagalog language includes a lot of words from the Spanish language. :)

Flow drills are not as useless as some Arnisadors I've encountered and seen online claimed, it would make more sense in a bladed context especially when binding is involved. If one looks at sparring from European fencing (with sabres and messers), Chinese fencing (Dao and Jian) and heck even African fencing and Arabic fencing, there are movements there like parries and attacks that really resemble the flow drills.
Flow drills are not 100 percent what sword fighting looks like but they have a basis.

SANA ALL.
    👍✨🌍🙌✔

My understanding is that the sticks depict swords. The grabbing technique you show seems not be applicable to grabbing a sharp sword. The grabbing technic's Dynamics I believe will change the moment you demonstrate sword armed partners. Am I right?

    • @daniel_bernas
      @daniel_bernas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Ghalib Marsal Hey Ghalib. Not all styles assume that the stick is a sword. For some it's just a stick, for others it's a sword, and there are also those who practice both. The drill we are doing here is a drill that assumes the stick is just a stick. If these were representing blades then yes, the dynamics will change. :)

First off, it is sort of possible to grab the blade albeit you have to hold it correctly, there is an entire technique known as "half-swording" where you should grab the blade and treat the longsword like a spear. Secondly, there are instances in HEMA Sword Messers and arming swords where a person is able to grab/push away the weapon hand and deliver a counter, same thing with Chinese sword fighting. I believe this to be the case for Arnis as well considering we were colonized by Spain for 300 years and we might've borrowed/rediscovered some techniques.
