    Very helpful video. Thank you. I'm currently assessing whether to move from key switches to articulation sets. To experiment on it, I thought to adapt one of Logic's existing articulation sets (Studio Horns Section) to one of my ensemble brass patches from another library. That saved me a bunch of steps (you must ensure to use the "Save As" command with a new name in the articulation set pop-up so as to not overwrite the existing set).

    I found this video a while back and I just have to say that it has been such a time-saver. Thanks for this! (I sometimes find that after I start applying articulations, I get notes that won't play, so I tend to add an articulation called "NONE" that is set to "note off" and that seems to clear things up.)

    Much Appreciate your videos.
    Professional, concise and clear to understand...although sometimes a bit too fast...e.g. I don't know how you were able to scroll down and quickly "copy/paste "Note-Off" on all the articulations Output window in your video.
    I do have one very important question....Is it possible to configure the output so that the articulations will show up in the score as well? This will save EONS of time in score editing afterwards. e.g. the Trill sign, the pizz "." sign, the glissando sign etc..... This way they appear automatically in the score. THanks a bunch.

    Hola Mikael, I have a question. Perhaps you can help me on this. Logic Horns comes with articulation sets already prepared. For the trumpets, there are a few articulations on trumpet 1 that are not present on trumpets 2, 3 and 4. My question is. Is it possible to edit the articulation set of trumpet 2, for example, and add new articulations present on Trumpet 1? Or is it necessary to create an script? All the best.

  • @tboozer1972
    @tboozer1972 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hours saved going forward. Great tip! Maybe in future updates Logic will do some of this automatically, but at least once you do it once, it's there. Great for stuff like Orange Tree Samples where it can be applied across several instruments.

    Hi Mike - Maybe you can help with this? - I'm working on a big band score and each voice / instrument is in a different track. When I want to change the articulation of each instrument (when viewing them all together in one single piano roll) I can't find a way to do this without going to each track individually and editing them one by one to be, say... a medium brass 'fall'. Am I missing something? The articulation window is greyed out. Any Idea? Thanks in advance....

    What is the effect of doing this? Does it mean an articulation is assigned to a note for an instrument so this note cannot be played with another articulation during your live performance? Or does it mean you have to take unused keys on your keyboard to press simultaneously with another key to apply the articulation to it?

    Hello.. Thanks for the video! I've tried to create a new set for the "Versillian Chamber Orchestra 2", VSCO2, and I followed the instructions, created a new table and tried to select each note and set a different articulation. It does not seem to work. It works perfectly with the stock orchestras. I think when you select a particular articulation then it should show in the instrument itself that this articulation has been selected, but this does not happen. I am on the latest logic update. Any idea what could be wrong?
    Not only that, but the orchestra contains many instruments and sections, each with its own unique articulation, i.e. each one needs a set of articulations defined for it. Is this really practical??

    Dear Peak Eleven,
    thank you so much for your video which helps me a lot. Did you forget to give the solution for the problem #2 ? I can't find it in the video...
    It would be really helpful to know how to manage this issue.
    As you said, in my mockups, it seems that every articulation changes has to be played once before reading the correct one.
    If not, the last articulation is played.
    I'm using Logic Pro 10.4.1 on high Sierra with a Macbook Pro (16gb RAM - 1to SSD).

    This isn't a practical solution when you consider that an orchestral piece can have hundreds of bars. Such a childish solution!

    • @mikaelbaggstrom
      @mikaelbaggstrom  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Babak, well this is not my solution. It is the standard the Kontakt libraries and all sample libraries of orchestral instruments have been using for years: Key switching. I think setting the articulation per note is still much better than having lots of "extra notes" in the piano roll that represent each articulation change, don't you agree?
      Sincerely,
      Mike
