And that man’s name is Geoff Hillcroft. He is 58. On Wednesdays he performs a type of dance/blues music for the elderly at the Mile End retirement village in Kent. They think it’s alright but several folks have said they would like more Conway Twitty and Elvis Presley samples, and less New Order samples.
I used to gig with an SU-10, Roland MS-1, SP-202, SP-303, various hand percussion, noise makers and a borrowed DigiTech Jam Man L2.. Good times and memories!!
Whoo nice. This little friend makes me dancing!! Hm... on the left hand Korg Kaossilator, on the right hand the SU10 - very nice team. I wanna have one!! ;)
I got this back in the day for $40. Now its like $150.00. I never got that slider thing to work right though. Sounded like I was skipping through a cd. Idk how he's using it. Must have been a setting 😃 lol
I bought a SU10 brand new back in the 90's think I payed about £299 lol still got it and after watching this video I might as well get it out and hook it up to my mixer/Mac
I like what you've done there - I had one of these from new and never made much use of it which is as much to do with me as it is the sampler - ie I'm not much of a sampler person but the sampler is very basic which probably contributed to my lack of enthusiasm for it so I sold it after about 6 months. Having said that though, the eBay prices for these now are so low that I could probably justify having one again for about the price of a modest guitar fx pedal.
Love this! 0:38 I can’t get mine to scratch like this? Am I missing something in the setting or is mine just broken? When I press the scratch button it does something else but not a scratch hahah Not a scratch..
Great stuff man, great stuff! Looking for the manual on Yamaha's official site but haven't found it yet, any tips on where to find it, apart from ebay?
Subscribed man, is worth it if you wanna check out which synth or drummachine to chose, by the way i own a rmx1 like u! maybe u can help me out to make it work!
Ha, this was the first bit of gear I ever bought back in 98! I can confirm it is a bit rubbish, though the ribbon was quite cool for filter sweeps. I think it could only play about 3 samples at one time.
@@RaveTracks I was checking out the back end pictures last night. I must’ve got mixed up with the 2 stereo inputs the mpc’s have and the su which has one for input and one for output side by side. So, the sound quality is good? I’ve heard mixed reviews.
@@bloodyshrine1369 The sound quality is fine. The lack of memory and features are it's weakness. The sequencer is more or less useless and the sample time is short an non expandable.
lost it at the "scratching" xD Too funny!
I love the SU-10. This is an impressive show of it.
Someplace out there is someone whose entire setup consists of a SU10, an MU5, and a QY10. And they gig with it.
Is that you?
@@RaveTracks No way could I be that cool.
Don't forget the RY8 (Drum Machine)
Would the setup basically be using the QY to sequence and arrange all the other devices?

I love this demo, it's creative and very inspiring, super well done!
YES to scratching with the volume control. Fantastic video.
I had one of those! Great little fun box.
You did the best review for this one ☝️ thank you 😊
One of the best vids for this little gem.
One of my first ever videos. Just coming up 10 years. Thanks for the comment!
Love that hip-hop beat, really good, nice little beast of a machine ( :

i had one of these in the late 90's
Great demo.
Fresh for sure

Killer jam man. Jam was hawt!!
I love your channel.
What a demo. I need these samples :)
Whoo nice. This little friend makes me dancing!! Hm... on the left hand Korg Kaossilator, on the right hand the SU10 - very nice team. I wanna have one!! ;)
Nice JAM!!!
Thanks! The scratch part is dope!
Great video
Can you pitch samples and does it run off batteries how is sequencer ?
This was my first ever sampler, limited but lots of fun, could never get the scratch to sound right but the filter was proper filthy.
Yamaha always have great filters
WHAT!? DAYUM, lol, this is a little beast!
These r awesome. I use mine in tandim w/ thu yamaha qy8, these are legenddary and make a great team.
The ribbon controller reminds me of the DJx

Magic hands!
Awesome thats how you use a SU10 LOL

a mate gave me one today hehe, ima gona start playing with it
Awesome. Just bid on one of these. Great demo of the capabilities. I'm hoping that the 8bit sampling and old converters offer some lofi grit. :-)
Won my bid. Looking forward to getting it. Thanks for the inspiring video.
murahachibu how did you get on with it?
Got one of these too, havent really tried it yet tho
Lol.... Still got mine in a tote somewhere.... First sampler I got after my Casio SK1
You really know your stuff 👌🏼
Wow, this is an old video ha ha.
RaveTracks Indeed, but really inspiring nonetheless
@RaveTracks is there a trick to the scratching? Just ordered one.
skill! nice video tnx
Perrrrrrfect!! Just what i ben lookin for. Bout to hit up CRaigslist rt about NOW.
Deff in hiphop. I think the Amen appears more frequently in loads of underground jungle tho.
Amazing! I specially like the house part. Does it have a internal sequencer? Cheers :-)

Not anymore, the prices are higher and higher every year
@RaveTracks i was reading on a forum their good for recording drums as they add some character.
Samples from the DR 202 !
@RaveTracks do you just record samples thru the line-in??
Hmmm - thanks I'll check that one out.
Love this!

@RaveTracks i dont know, still have a lot to learn with it
Niiice
sublime scarlet begonias? begining drum loop am i right?

Anyone know why when i record a sample it plays back reversed, and the only way to make it play normal is I have to hit rev? Thanks!
Sublime sample in the opening?
James Brown Funky Drummer break!
Yeah
where can i buy one of these?
So it looks as though the su10 can sample? Wasn’t sure if it had the inputs.
It's oldskool so that's the only way you can get sounds in to it. There's no USB connection or memory cards on this ancient bad boy.

Would you be able to sequence this from a Novation Circuit?
+David Holmes Yes you can.
+RaveTracks excellent news!
Thanks man!
I have mine on ebay right now ;)
can you chop samples with these?
yes, also you can set loop points
Guess would be nice for an Acid-livesetup ... Hummm
How you sample with a mic
You can't plug a mic directly in to the SU10 so you would need to do it via some sort of mixer.
ill!
Oldschool schreibt man so.
Crazy people on TH-cam, I'll tell you what. lol
whats the process to use thiS?
now i know why you are wearing gloves. greetz
I took a hammer 🔨 to mine prob worth few quid now
00:08 - I think drums = Sinéad O'Connor - I Am Stretched On Your Grave
That loop was indeed used on that record. However it originates from a James Brown track called Funky Drummer!
What the fuuuuck so you wanna tell me that u can actually scratch with this thing???? Does anybody know some more machines with that kinda ability?
su700 : )) a beast.
All the ones with a ribbon controller...
Turntables & a mixer can scratch better. They even scratch better than midi controllers! Try it
I bought that sampler for over 250 dollars back in 1998 it was a piece of shit, the song mode went out
what's with every demo of this having such crappy recording? if you're going to record from built in speakers, save your time and just don't.
The SU10 doesn't have a built in speaker.
I like!
