I think the writers found it funnier to make it so people didn’t like him since Chandler as a character wants people to like him.. it’s the irony.. he’s insecure so it’s funny to make people not like you when you’re insecure even if in real life he’s actually very likable..
Chandler's face when he says "what?" when Phoebe tells him his colleagues don't like him kinda breaks my heart. He always tries hard to make people like him but unfortunately some people don't take his jokes lightly (or some people don't know how to take jokes). But he's always the one who lightens the conversations of the group.

The same thing happened to me too. Once I became School Captain, every one of my classmates began hating me. A girl told me the truth about it so that I don’t suck up to them to make them like me. Ever since then I stopped caring about other people’s opinion about me. Something changed after I heard her say ‘No-one in the class likes you’.
Phoebe is so underrated. And I read somewhere that the character was not fully developed and quite a lot of it was Lisa's own work in taking the character forward.

All jokes aside, what makes scenes like this great (comedically) is the truth behind it. I've been in Chandler's shoes and anyone else that has can agree that you can make many friends at work, but as soon as you get promoted, boom, that's it, even if they see you as a good boss.

i've always felt that friends did actually teach some adult lessons, even though it's a comedy. this is a prime example. when you get promoted, your coworkers aren't gonna be your friends anymore. you're just a boss to them. there are no friends at work.
It doesn't matters what everyone thinks or says but for me chandler was the most mature among the guys because he had a solid job with a good pay, planned his future like after marriage, children etc and also he was great at convincing when he convinced that lady to adopt her child....so I think he was a whole package!❤ mature immature funny kiddish sarcastic helpful caring etc.

Happens all the time in the military. I was a 24 year old Army Lieutenant and was in charge of 30 men and a million dollars worth of equipment. Not a big deal.

This is so true. For 11 years I was the go to guy at work for jokes and everyone loved me, then I became the boss and it was like a light switch, suddenly people wouldn’t talk to you, you became the joke….no matter what you did it was never good enough.
This one scene helped me in handling my team during my initial entrepreneurship days, where I wanted to show to my employees that I was a friendly boss, and they still use to ignore me. After this scene, it strike me that one can be a good boss, teach them, lead them and be a lot more, but can never be friends with them, as they are with each other.
Chandler always seemed to be the most successful and professional of the group. Always had a solid job and grew more mature during the show
