Absolutely. It’s been a while since I used both of these devices, but all I can say is it’s a bit tricky figuring out all the CC notes. I know there’s a chart somewhere in the SP forums with all the notes and how they read from the banks.

Thanks man! It was a bit tricky to get the banks on the sp right inside the Beatstep, I had to configure the CC notes in Arturia Midi Center, but it wasn’t that hard. I know there’s a chart flowing around in a SP Forum. Do you mean the 404 MK2?

I am very new to making music on my own, was in a punk rock band for a while, now just by myself in the basement. I came to see how you use the BSP, but became facinated with the SP404. The orchestral sounds and the little "please" lick, how did you "get" those? loved the feel of the whole thing.
Oh cool punk rock band! The SP 404A is a really nice device, but the new 404 MK2 is even better with guitar amp, easier to manage samples etc. All the sounds except for bass and rhodes comes from vinyl, and those are stock plugins in Logic.
I see you use one normal sequencer and the drum sequencer on the Beststep Pro. Do they trigger different banks on the SP at different MIDI channels? Thx!
Yes I’m using the sequencer on the beatstep to trigger different banks on the SP.. I know there’s a chart with all the SP404 CC notes, and all you need to do next is to enter Arturia midi center and enter correct numbers 😁

It was a bit tricky to set it up, I had to go in and change some cc notes inside the Arturia Midi Center.. but once I dialed in those corresponding to the right SP bank it was pretty straight forward to sequence it on the beatstep. Not sure where I got the drums from, something I had laying around on the SP. Best from Sweden 👊👊

No worries! It’s not that hard, but not the easiest machine either.. depending on how you’re planning to use it, how familiar you are with setting up midi routing... it’s a great sequencing device..
No such thing as a noob question. I don’t know anything about the sp808, so I’m a noob myself, but if you have midi-in it shouldn’t be a problem. It was a little tricky to figure out the right CC notes, mainly because the sp runs over multiple banks.. but inside Arturia midi center you can just toggle the values till you find the samples on your sp.. might sound more complicated than it is.

What’s the advantage of sequencing with the beat step pro instead of directly into the 404?
The beatstep has a step sequencer, you can offset the notes, easier to erase steps, quicker to make patterns, and you can mute like the drums etc..

noob question..., I have an old roland sp 808 which "sequencer' sucks. will this work to trigger pads from 808 and sequence them via midi?
