Larry very cool video. As a Chinese who lived in USA and also a gun nuts who owned way too many guns. I found a common problem in chinese firearm design is lack of the user feedback. Unlike us civilians own a lot of firearms in China it’s prohibited for civilian to own firearms. So when the designer design the weapon they only have the narrow idea of themselves thinking it’s good for the operators. They don’t get a lot of user feedbacks at all. Such as the windowed mag on 92 in early days which was fixed already in later production. Another example will be the qbz95/97 the mag release is very small and hard to hit same as the selector and safety. The designer think it’s safer for the soldier to use but in their real world it’s a pain in the ass. Well with the new rifle coming out hopefully we can see the improvement these such as optic will become more common in the rifle and the ergo will be more user friendly. Very good video as always Larry!
If the open magazine design was a problem the Russians would have changed it a loooong time ago. Watch MACs torture test of the Makarov. You can put sand in the mag as much as you want, the pistol won't jam.
makarov was like Colt hammerless designed for Officers since Soviet doctrine didn't issue pistol for normal troops. Only NCO, Tank crew, Pilots and special force and police. The doctrine only changed in Russia in 2003 when Modernization of Russian military force to standard PYa Mp443. The problem was not of lack of power but lack of fire sustaining since it only has 8 rounds. Later version increase up to 10-12 rounds but it still not enough they later replace it with APS pistol, which is 20 round 9x18mm anyway. So it not really weak round, the reason it got chosen simply is cheaper to make the Makarov with lower pressure round like 9x18mm since it do the job and not many fields troops gonna use pistol anyway and armour was not really a thing back then.
It makes it easier for the chamber to get dirty and will likely mess with long term reliability though. I don’t think it is such a good design considering the only benefit is that the shooter can clearly see how many rounds they have, which can be achieved with many other ways
@Michael Srite what do you expect when the British invaded and took over 171countries ,a hand FULL of people in England isn't bad if you are part of the commonwealth family.
The key difference between the PX4 and PA-15 rotating barrels is that the PA-15 does not have a locked breech, but has it's action delayed by the friction of the bullet travelling down the barrel to keep it "locked." You'll notice on a PA-15, as you pull the slide back, the barrel immediately rotates but does not travel rearward at all, whereas on the PX4, the barrel travels with the slide back a few millimeters before the two unlock. The CF-98 appears to function like the PX4.
Thanks Larry and team! I love this gun and wish you'd show a custom version sometime, yes this may get hate for a comment but I sincerely have seen and raced this pistol and when properly managed this thing can keep up with the best

@Master Marc Subliminals you get a firearms license. That card will act as your background check. You can buy a gun at a gun shop, online retailer or from a private sale
@@tam6051 how does private sale mean blackmarket? Black market is where the criminals get their guns. private sale means privately sold outside from the dealer. Selling the gun themselves to another gun owner.
I have fired more than 3000 rounds (both 5.8 and 9 mm version) on the 92 version, and there is huge common problem with the 92, which is the non-interchangability of the mags due to the design of the mag-- this means that the 92 works only fine when you use the orginal mags that came with the particular pistol; you can, however, use other 92 mags, but it will cause malfunctions (most commonly every fourth round). So, some SWAT units in China had bought Glock 19 instead... Some other units then went to the Chinese copy of Sig P226. The factory then re-designed the 92 pistol, and there is a newer version of it called 92G now, and it changes many features including the dual position feed. It is now argubly a better weapon, but... anyone in China that has fired Glock or CZ (as they are easier to be imported to China) will never go back to 92 unless they have no choice... P.S The 9mm version, when firing, the recoil makes you wonder if that is a .45 pistol...
Fun fact. The actual Chinese service pistol that fires 5.8mm cartridges is different in its mechanism from the 9mm version, which is for police and export, despite the fact that both of them are called type 92 and looks identical from the outside.
In the Canadian Military, the CF-98 is the "Report of Injury, Disease or Illness" form for service personnel... I wanted one of these pistols just for that fact.

Its rotation barrel lock, so no tipping of the barrel occurs at all. I shot and field stripped some norinco (not this one, the CZ75 knockoff), and the manufacturing is very crude/rough. It literally felt like chinese junkest tools, dragging and screeching like there was sand in it. Outside looks so-so, with sharp egges etc, but the inside is rough, and the tolerances are gross. I actually had to pry the slide stop (which also holds the barrel in frame) with a floor plate of the magazine, it was impossible to pull out by hand.

Yes, barrels normally last way over the minimum advertised. That said, the 5.8 that the Chinese use is a lot faster and wears out barrels more quickly.
By service life, are they referring to the frame as well or just the barrels? Obviously you need to change out springs, etc., over the life of the pistol but generally speaking military service pistols tend to clock in with a 25,000+ round service life. I have a GLOCK that's probably tripled that with only spring changes.

It is totally possible, either on purpose ("they wont shoot it much anyway, so lets make it as cheap as possible"), or by shit manufacturing/design - cracking frames and slides, poor or none heat treatment...
In its design and construction, it is very much reminiscent of the Russian MP-446 Viking; it even has a magazine of a very similar design, with a double-row neck. The qbz97’s mag release problem is only for 97. The 95 has the AK style rock & lock system.
