- Dumpster diving is salvaging from large commercial, residential, industrial and construction containers for unused items discarded by their owners, but deemed useful to the picker. It is not confined to dumpsters and skips specifically, and may cover standard household waste containers, curb sides, landfills or small dumps.
Different terms are used to refer to different forms of this activity. For picking materials from the curbside trash collection, expressions such as curb shopping, trash picking or street scavenging are sometimes used. When seeking primarily metal to be recycled, one is scrapping. When picking the leftover food from farming left in the fields one is gleaning.
People dumpster dive for items such as clothing, furniture, food, and similar items in good working condition. Some people do this out of necessity due to poverty, others for ideological reasons, while still others do so professionally and systematically for profit.

Deserved talaga ni Kweni yun surprise mo, and tama ka na as in any relationship dapat give and take. Also a true friend is someone who is happy with your success! You and Kweni are both tama ng timpla, walang exaggerations in your actions. Even before sa TEAM KAJA, kayo 2 ma effort. I remember, Kweni would always make the lechon and bring it sa gatherings, she would bring pa mga disposables and sometimes she would help clean Aileen’s house whenever she would stay the night. Julie, would always cook for the team and parang open house yun bahay nyo ni Robert for them. Oh well, those were the days. Back then as a viewer I would observe that these two are really good people. That is why I’m still with them, supporting them. Oh I forgot to mention mommy Jas (though she is not part of TEAM KAJA)na sobrang thoughtful and generous. Indeed, birds of the same feather, flock together. 😊

I remember inday karya yong brother in law ko same as you mapagkawanggawa isa din syang ofw tuwing papasok sya sa work nya nakikita daw nya yong matanda nakaupo malapit sa building ng pinagtatrabahuan nya binibigyan daw nya pambili ng pagkain ng magbabakasyon na sya dito sa pilipinas nagpaalam sya matanda na magbabakasyon sya sa pilipinas for two weeks kaya ipapamili na nya yong matanda ng pangangailangan nya tuwang tuwa daw yong matanda bago sya umalis sinabi ng matanda sa kanya na ipagdasal nya yong bayaw ko na Kong ano man yong ibinigay sa kanya (matanda) ay ibabalik sa bayaw ko ng triple pagbalik ng bayaw ko galing pilipinas nagulat sya ng ipatawag sya ng president at prinomote sya bilang budget manager at ang sweldo $13k kaya naniniwala ako ano man ibigay mo ibabalik sayo ng doble or triple pa at yong matanda na binibigyan nya pagkain kinuhanan nya ng apartment after 1 year namatay yong matanda sabi ng bayaw ko kindness is free

My father was a farmer back home in the Phils. We live in the middle of farmland that wasn't ours then. Nakikisaka lang ang father ko noon but eventually we were able to buy that farmland dahil sa pagsusumikap.
My father had diabetes pero ayaw niyang magtake ng gamot, he preferred to watch his food intake instead and he was able to manage it.
One day he had to go to the city which was about 3hrs bus ride one way. He packed some sandwiches and snacks to bring with him. He came home late afternoon that day feeling so weak with blurry vision that got us so worried. We asked what happened and he said he was so hungry, he didn't have anything to eat since he left in the morning, and that he gave away all his food to the children who were begging for food and money on the street.
But there is something he did and said that stuck with me for as long as I live and somethig that I can share with my children and grandchildren someday, to my nieces and nephews about their grandpa, and to anybody who wants to listen.
There was a time in the Phils. when there was no sunshine for weeks and weeks. It was always cloudy and rain mostly light showers. People were unable to get their harvested rice to get it dry for the rice mill. As days went by rice supply was getting scarce.
My resourceful father seemed to always prepare for a time like this. Because that year, rainy season was longer than the previous years. Our own food supply were also getting less everyday.
One day, one of our neighbors came knocked on our door asking if we have rice and if she could borrow 1salop, that was the measurement being used during that time. My father said ok. People kept coming at our door for rice. As weeks went by the measurement got smaller as well, from 1 salop (or is it gantas?) to a tin/can, the size of a can of condensed milk or evap milk.
Every time my father gave rice to every person who came knocking at our door, my mother was mad and got angry at my father, and I don't blame her 'cause soon our own rice supply won't last us long.
But my father told my mother, "Just be glad and thank the Lord that you are not one of those who are out there knocking at other people's door begging for food or anything to cook for your children, or for your family."
My mother replied, "Soon I will be if you continue and kept giving away our food to other people!"
My father responded, " May awa ang Dios. Naniniwala ako na hindi niya tayo pababayaan dahil hindi tayo nagpabaya sa ating kapwa na may matinding panangangailangan."
And he added, " Have you noticed, simula noong nag-umpisa ang mga taong kumatok sa ating pintuan, ay hanggang ngayon hindi tayo nauubusan? It's not much, pero hindi nauubos."
I never forget the looked in my mother's face when she realized it was true. This happened decades ago and I remember it like it happened yesterday.
Maybe that's the reason why I am drawn to people like Inday Karya. Mostly because of her kindness and charity works. I'm a true believer that when you give with a pure intention, it'll be returned a thousand fold. Let's be kind to one another.
