Even bands like Reckless or Whiskey drop albums and honestly maybe like 2 or 3 songs are good. Literally EVERY turnpike song ever on an album, I know every word to because they are ALL so good.
Best group ever. Haven’t know lyrics and loved every single song since the Beatles when I was a kid. Going to second concert Friday. Can’t wait. The first one was phenomenal.
Genre matters to me,and that song is absolutely pure country and is void of any of the sounds of the "modern "country they play on radio today I'm thrilled, kudos to Evan Felker and the TurnpikeTroubadours AGAIN
For TT fans, and I don't know Evan, but my interpretation of this song is an address to his onstage antics or lack thereof, wherein he compares it to a relationship with a female, possibly one in his own life, but why would that matter? Because what's relatable is all of it. Maybe he slept to the fears of the crowd leaving his show. Maybe that had some legitimate comparison to a personal relationship that he manifested into a beautiful waltz. Maybe he's an artist, and if you like his art, you should just shut up and enjoy it. But I don't know Evan.
Riding the heels of a seven day stone Laughin' together and drinking alone Stitch it up quick now, it's come all unsewn My right arm around you, you're already gone Well you come as you are and you leave with a smile You got a way, honey, you got a style That you play So I wake in the mornin' and start out my day To the sound of you walkin' away To the sound of you walkin' away Well how did I get to the shape that I'm in A younger man's thoughts, some tonic, some gin And now I'm fumblin' around for it, darlin' don't go The click of the heel to the tap of the toe Well you come as you are and you leave with a smile You got a way, honey, you got a style That you play So I wake in the mornin' with nothin' to say To the sound of you walkin' away To the sound of you walkin' away Well I make the coffee, head to the blinds I cut ties with everything I can't find I blow a bad word when I talk with an old friend Lord, you're a godsend I've got my heart set now on changin' your mind Well you come as you are and you leave with a smile You got a way, honey, you got a style That you play So I wake in the mornin' and start out my day To the sound of you walkin' away To the sound of you walkin' away To the sound of you walkin' away
Mike Martin it’s been a while. But he said once in an interview he actually started out a poet. He got a little more into his older years of school and started playing music. But at the time he didn’t like country music at all. Because like a lot of kids it wasn’t what was cool. He was far more influenced by rock. Then as he got older he has stuff like this!
Even bands like Reckless or Whiskey drop albums and honestly maybe like 2 or 3 songs are good. Literally EVERY turnpike song ever on an album, I know every word to because they are ALL so good.
My friend and I have a quest to find a bad song they have written. I just hasn't happened.
for real, but don’t do whiskey like that lmao
exactly i know every lyric to every song of every album they’re too good
Im thinking this is the most perfect country song ever written. The steel guitar, the nostalgic desperation, the fiddle. Too good.
It didn't have anything about trains, or trucks, or prison, or mama, or gettin' drunk.
akbrooks70 great comment

Felker is a genius.
This feels like a companion piece to "Fall Out of Love."
Wow, yes!!!!
It doesn't get much better than Turnpike.

Damn straight!

There isn't a Turnpike song I don't know. This is one of the best country bands alive today.
Wish Felker would get well so they can come back together and release more bangers.
Gritty, authentic, might be the greatest song I've ever heard.
The comeback of the year is about to happen
Love this band. So many great story songs, and "Ringing in the Year," will absolutely crush your heart.
Ringing in the Year is so underrated. I don't think they play it much live...
Still the best country band I’ve seen play in the last twenty years! I feel lucky to have experienced them live with some people I love. ❤️
been a fan since goodbye normal street and it's only gotten better
Underrated band. I've made a lot of good memories to their songs.
real music melts my heart to hear the real sound comeing back around
cant help but dream of the songs a nd tunes that Evan is coming up with in this time of silence. thinking of you all
this song still hits like a sledge hammer for me.
The reality is that Felker is one of the greatest folk singers ever. He just happens to have the most badass country bands backing him.
Brought me to tears. Beautiful.
great band - awesome harmonies xxx
Love 💘 this Song!!
what a wonderful song!

Riding the heels of a seven day stone
Laughin' together and drinking alone
Stitch it up quick now, it's come all unsewn
My right arm around you, you're already gone
Well you come as you are and you leave with a smile
You got a way, honey, you got a style
That you play
So I wake in the mornin' and start out my day
To the sound of you walkin' away
To the sound of you walkin' away
Well how did I get to the shape that I'm in
A younger man's thoughts, some tonic, some gin
And now I'm fumblin' around for it, darlin' don't go
The click of the heel to the tap of the toe
Well you come as you are and you leave with a smile
You got a way, honey, you got a style
That you play
So I wake in the mornin' with nothin' to say
To the sound of you walkin' away
To the sound of you walkin' away
Well I make the coffee, head to the blinds
I cut ties with everything I can't find
I blow a bad word when I talk with an old friend
Lord, you're a godsend
I've got my heart set now on changin' your mind
Well you come as you are and you leave with a smile
You got a way, honey, you got a style
That you play
So I wake in the mornin' and start out my day
To the sound of you walkin' away
To the sound of you walkin' away
To the sound of you walkin' away
I think the line is "I blow a bad woodwind," as in a duck call
Plz for the love of God, get back together we need a new album

Good God! Ain't I been there!

I went to school with Evan...Wow
What was he like? Has he always been a musician?

what does he mean by "Riding the heels of a seven day stone"
Trey Hempel You maybe right! Every lyric website has it "stone". Seems to me like they're wrong.
blamb25 Ok, I thought I was just hearing things. Well those "fans" must not know the guy. Neither do I but I sure can relate.
If y'all have to quess you would not understand
Came expecting a Nirvana cover... Haha
And stumbled upon something better
🤔😁👍👍
