That flashback scene shows what was shown in season 3 episode 1 with Rick and the other Rick did happen, the difference being how real Rick acted after his family died.
One of the best if not the best finale to a season of Rick and Morty we've ever gotten. The build up to seeing Rick and Morty meet evil Morty and learn the real truth behind Ricks origin and how Morty's were orchestrated into existing by Rick were all insane reveals at the time. Btw I would watch a whole anime of Rick as the Crowman.
idk what is with rick and morty and having mid seasons but dropping banger finales like i think s7ep10 might have my fav finale of theirs along with this
I think also because he was working with, or so we thought at the time, Evil Rick. So we got used to calling him Evil Morty. Pirate Morty also feels like it would have worked, especially since Rick is afraid of pirates.
This episode is a good example of how the multiverse works in the MCU. Where there's basically a multiverse of related universes and a multiverse of isolated ones. Like in this episode you have a multiverse isolated from the rest where Ricks and Mortys exist, and one where they never do. In the MCU there's the Sacred Timeline which has no parallel versions and no diversions (before Loki), but the multiverse still existed even outside of this; the only difference is the Sacred Timeline was the only reality where Kang was born, and in every other universe he wasn't until Loki broke the timeline and universes where different versions of Kang come into being.
So some things to keep in mind when you re-watch that might make it easier to understand the second time around: The idea of the central finite curve is that "our" Rick, the one we normally follow, basically ended up creating a dimensional prison of sorts. In that prison is every universe where Rick is the smartest being in that universe, and he locked that into what is called the Central Finite Curve. The idea behind that, as far as I can tell, is that those universes are the ones where all the worst Ricks rise up from because they all end up being arrogant and fucked up without smarter threats to keep them in check. It's also how he locked up the Rick that killed his family so that he could try and track him down and get revenge. "Evil" Morty wanted to get the design plans for the Central Finite Curve from our Rick's brain because he wants to escape the Curve and go to a new universe for whatever reason. At the end, he does a scan where we see that the Central Finite Curve is indeed broken down, thus implying that all realities are now merged and the "bad" Ricks can mingle with the other universes but there's also now a bunch of universes where smarter beings than Rick exist and they can interact with us.
SPOILERS: The central finite curve is still in tact. They close the gap that evil Morty created in the next season. The search for "bad Rick" disrupts it again, but thats another story.
@@NovusIgnis Evil morty gets disrupted trying to sleep in infinity because our Rick slowly destroys the central finite curve on the search for evil rick and causes more and more gaps. Thats what makes evil morty return and help him kill evil rick. After that he steals the weapon that can basically destroy everything and returns to infinity leaving rick and morty behing.
Interesting fact: Evil Morty's real name from the authors is eye patch Morty. And he's wearing an eye patch. And Rick is for some reason afraid of pirates that also do that
@@DisfunktionalTV It REALLY is! Especially the second episode, with the song giving us the subtle cue that we were seeing him again before we actually saw the pictures of him and Evil Rick!
13:28 - The first part with the bomb dropping, killing his wife, was part of the S3 Ep1 when the bugs want toe formula to interdimensional travel. He brings the bug to when that happened but he claimes it was all fabricated and made up. But seems it was not fully made up.
Rick & Morty is one of the only shows on TV fire enough I actually want to rewatch episodes. And I almost always find new stuff on rewatch. The show is densely packed quality writing, and a lot of beats happen fast. They don't slow down to spoon-feed or showboat their writing. Gotta catch it fast or rewatch.
man ─ of course not with all these details ─, but i knew Rick's backstory would be something like this just because of the neutrino bomb scene on episode 1, for "a new start" (with Morty as Adam and Jessica as Eve, lol 😆) // and the episode 11 with Bird Person translating "wubba lubba dub dub" to Morty while helping him to clean up the house after the party
Stan Lee from Marvel. That's why when there was a clone Beth on earlier season finales it didn't matter who was the clone? Because all the Beth's where clone's than match them up with Jerry to have Morty's

If it wasnt clear The origin story we were given in s3 was actually true, and not fake When our ricks family was killed, he hunted for "prime" rick. When he couldnt find him, he cut the multiverse in half, making sure anyone smarter than him couldnt enter his contained half of infinity. Evil morty then breaks this barrier and is in true infinity. No limitations.
ALMOST TRUE. In S3E1, it shows Rick thinking of his portal gun formula immediately after Rick Prime blows up his family. Here there is clearly some time in between, since he is seen by the EMT's first and we see his eyes squint with vengeful intent.
@@LucianDevine Yeah, but that's not important to my point. Season 3 made us think that the entire thing was fake, but the point is, it was mostly true.

eye patch morty is only evil because fans called it that, but in the writer's room he was just "eye patch morty"

Yeah? You were in the room with them when this was pitched?
The rick who killed c-137’s beth and diane becomes VERY important in season 6 and 7.

This is one of Morty’s mind blowers for sure. The reveal that Beth and her moms death was real is so bonkers
The Evil Morty story line, complete with the song that pairs with him, is hands down the best story line in the entire show!

This episode is straight fire. And the next season has several more bangers to come 💪
The next time we see Evil Morty hits just as hard as this did 😏
