Very fine and informative presentation! I so enjoy lectures like this in which the comments of great critics are shared with the general public. Kind regards from the U.S.A.
The tools of criticism 'comparison and analysis' was given by T.S. Eliot in his work " Function of Criticism" ma'am,or was also given by Samuel Johnson?
Very monotonous and hence boring. About the content, it's ironical to say that Johnson was fiercely independent considering the very definition he gave to the word 'patron' in his 1755 Dictionary since his patron Lord Chesterfield didn't support him upto his expectations.
ma"m you say he was fiercely independent and didnt like charity, then why did he get upset when Lord or Earl of Chesterfield denied to provide help to him when he was planning to write the Dictionary. He got so upset that the Lord/Earl didnt help, that he went ahead with a satiric response ridiculing the Lord/Earl. isnt it ironical ??
