Very helpful! I noticed you made this in 2019 before the pandemic so when you mentioned about having places you really want to visit and then they might be closed for some unforeseen reason, I had to chuckle (so I don't cry). Thank you for this tutorial!

Thank you. Is it possible to "create" a route by driving it, and then entering a way point for every turn you make?
    Basically, a self-created map.
You are doing a great job.

I have been able to plan a route, but my mobile phone will only show me the route - but will not provide driving navigation instructions.

This is the best video about using google my maps to plan a trip . I am very slow at learning new things, but your video is so easy to understand. I am going to try it to impress my friends. Thank you much.

You can only add 10 destinations on each layer for driving directions. Not a problem with multiple layers, but I was hoping for a single layer for our cross-country trip. No biggie. Multiple layers it is.

Im SO CONFUSED: I'm been trying for HOURS to do what I would think should be a simple task.
CREATE A ROAD TRIP FOR GOOGLE MAPS WITH CUSTOM DIRECTIONS. This google maps either CHANGES the directions to the QUICKEST route, or the actual
CHANGES (me dragging the route MY WAY and not what google wants) does NOT save in the imported URL.
I then discovered GOOGLE MY MAPS so I created a custom SPECIFIC directions but now I can't figure out how to create a link so when someone clicks it, it loads THAT SPECIFIC ROAD MAP to their google maps app.
Basically I am in charge of creating a custom car cruise map of travelling through out a city. I want to be able to send everyone who will be driving a link so when they
click it, it loads my SPECIFIC directions so google map will AUDIO direct everyone if they were to get stuck as a light, or lost...
But why is this such a hard thing to do??????

Can you send this custom route to your smartphone and then travel using the maps offline?

      yes you can!
in a recent version of Google maps click on the saved menu item (looks like a bookmark on the bottom navigation).
now, scroll to the right on the top tab, and look for Maps.
      these are your mymaps!
you can download Map data by using offline maps, accessible by clicking your profile icon on the top right of Google Maps .
I'd test this in airplane mode to make sure you can get to what you need to.

I wish someone would show how to do real time navigation with a created My Map. I'm not sure it can do that.

    Ah, so you're telling us about places A, B, C, D, E and F. Very interesting; not.
Why would we not put place-names beside our markers in the locations where they are? Why look across to a legend every time we want to know what one is?
And, hey! Look: place names everywhere else on the map. Why wouldn't we want place names that are of most interest to us on OUR maps?
    Isn't this fairly fundamental?
    But thanks.

NOBODY can tell you how to load those driving directions into Google Maps (to actually navigate them)!

All good as long as you know the names of things. But what if it is an area for which you have no familiarity. Looks like you need another tool to actual find places, and then you could map it here. Poor.

Yeah, that's right--MyMaps is not that useful as a discovery tool--so you have to use it alongside Google maps (or actually, I think a local guidebook is a much better resource)
