My grandmother lived in the Sierras and had guineas. They do eat a lot of bugs...ticks, earwigs etc. they also will alarm if there is a snake in the area. Hers would circle around the snake and make noise...different from the usual chatter, and “ show her where it was. They roosted in the trees at night. Your girls will be safer with guineas in the yard.

Last year I put out a cherry tomato and a pear tomato plant in my yard. First time I ever planted veggies on my own. I also put 2 sweet pepper plants. It was late when I put them out. I got loads of little fresh tomatoes from those 2 plants. Living on my own it was plenty. This year I've got 4 tomato plants-two sweet pepper plants-a banana pepper plant-two yellow straight neck squash-two zucchini-two cucumbers and one cantaloupe plus some leafy lettuce. I just planted after we got our last frost -about 5 days-and watered every 3 days of no rain. No potting soil just right in the yard. I've already got blooms on my tomatoes and a pear sized sweet pepper started. I've also planted roses and lilac bushes.
