I did use my own boost pedal in front of the amp. I kept the bass low (between 2/3) and gain at 8 and treble at 9 (high). Mids at 5 and I use the classic V-shape at the graphic eq. Master volume at 5 and channel volume (the one in the eq) at 2. That will get you close to my tone
