    Finally an explanation of Kitchener stitch that I can understand and remember. Wonderful video. Now I really understand Kitchener. Thank you so much.

    You my darling, are amazing! Thank you so much for showing us how to make this amazing hat. I have been knitting scarves and hats for years but have never seen anything like this, I will most certainly be trying to make this soon!

      I thought this hat design was most interesting. Plymouth came up with a great design, all I did was to show others how to do the ketichner stitch and provisional cast on. I hope you enjoy making this design as much as I do. 1 note, I reduced the cast on amount by 5 stitches. It seems to large and this reduction mades it fit better.

    That was wonderful! I've never seen a really clear demo of the kitchener AND have learned a new way to inc in the purl stitch. It's such a simple thing, but I've not seen purling in the back of the stitch and then making the inc in the front!

      You go girl! You will love doing this hat, it not really hard once you know how to do the cast on and closing the seam. One note, I reduce the amount of cast on stitches by 5. To me it's to big with the amount of stitches Yvonne from Plymouth yarn specifies. And if you want to do a fuzzy border I would reduce by 10 because you will be adding them back on as the decorative border. Good luck, and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

      according to the pattern you cast on 70 stitches. I like to only do 65 because I feel the hat is too big when 70 stitches are in the cast on row.

    Thank you for such a clear and concise video, that was an amazing one take. I really appreciate your skill in demystifying this pattern. All your work in setting up many examples so we did have to sit through filler while you finished a row, or choppy edits! All how to videos should be so clear.

    Hello Stitch Niche!
    A most wonderful tutorial. Thank you.
    One question however - once you have your parallelogram and have joined the edges using the Kitchener stitch, how do you close off the top? Should we have been decreasing all along somehow?

    • @stitchniche2339
      @stitchniche2339  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a long whip stitch. I insert the needle from underneath to top through middle of a stockinet stich set on the outer edge, then do the next whip stitch from underneath to top through the next reverse Stockinet set. Repeat around. Pull tight, then I do a running stitch through the waves of the stitches that are standing up on top, then turn hat inside out and repeat on inside. This help secure the top.

    • @stitchniche2339
      @stitchniche2339  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stitch Niche : thank you for your response 😃 But the truth is I have no idea how to crochet or knit. Mom tried to teach me, and she tried but I am left handed so we couldn’t find our groove. She’s gone now and I have no one to ask- so I am trying to learn from you tube. I really want my children and (future) grandchildren to have the things passed from me to them like I have of hers. Those projects of mom’s are worth more to me than gold😀😀

    • @stitchniche2339
      @stitchniche2339  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The one good think about Knitting is you use both hands. In the beginning for every one, it feels awkward. But with a little practice and some patience, it gets easier. Then all the sudden one day everything clicks. At least that is how I felt when I started and several ladies I have taught told me. The best guidance I can give you is to learn to knit right handed. All patterns are wrote for right handed knitters. You would find it difficult in the beginning trying to figure out the left handed Stitch for some of them. Example. To de a “knit 2 Stitches together” (K2tog) you would do a “Slip 1stitch, Slip another Stitch , Then put them back on the right Needle, then knit them together” (SSK).
      I have had several ladies come in the store telling me they were left handed knitters, but when they would show me what the problem Stitch was, they were Knitting right handed.
      So don’t give up. I will do a simple how to start to knit video soon showing the easiest cast on and the basic knit Stitch. Then I will do one that shows the Purl Stitch and how to bind Off. Watch them and take your time, then BINGO! You will be Knitting in no time. These are the first two classes I do to teach a beginner.

    • @stitchniche2339

      I did the first in my series of how to knit last night. It was casting on and knit Stitch. Next will be how to Purl and bind Off.

    • @stitchniche2339
      @stitchniche2339  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do a whip stitch around the top edge. I usually put one whip stitch in each stockinette stitch and one reverse stockinette stitch section. Otherwise it will be to bulky. If i didn't explain it okay let me know and i will send you a quick series of pictures showing what I do. It won't be on the spiral hat but it will show what I did. Happy Holiday

      you start with a provisional cast on of 70 stitches. Then you work 2 rows of stockinette stitch. Continue in stockinette and reverse stockinette stitch. You finish with the Kitchener stitch to join the two sides of the hat together. The video should be able to help you knit the hat from start to finish.

      Execellent! If you go to my TH-cam or search for the TH-cam video call "Kitchener stitch how to" it will show you how to close. On the video there are a couple twisted stitches. Just ignore the twisted stitches and work the needle as shown. One if these days I plan on refining the video with all the stitches on the needles in the correct orientation.

      Now I can answer that question. I am working on a video to show how I finish the hat. Did a smaller version for the video. I did 45 Stitches and 10 repeats. Hat came out pretty good. It may work for your size. Now I am making one with 50 stitches and 12 repeats to see how big it comes out.

    why do you have to crochet the beginning?
    cant we just cast on the stiches to the knitting needle?
    I was thinking of sewing the ends together at the end not knitting them :))

    • @stitchniche2339
      @stitchniche2339  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason for the crochet chain is to have live stitches to be able to use the Kitchener stitch and not see any seam. There is a TH-cam video on how to do the Kitchener stitch

    Why to waste so much time using your right hand to pull yarn over the needle? JUST MOVE YOUR NEEDLE !!! Just MOVE your needle to make a stitch.Just look at the way people knit in other countries - it may save you years in a long run.When i showed to my friends the way anglo-saxons are knittig no one believed me and just laughed. Apart from this thank you very much for the great tutorial.
