It was a great show ' I have the full dvd box set ' + of Minder too ' rip to both John Thaw and Dennis Waterman ' as well as the rest of any now deceased cast.

Wow didn't know he was the very first star of the Sweeney! Good to see that his contemporary Brian Blessed was also in the cast of the launch show. I'd love to see the whole episode.
The drink seems to be catching up with him looks-wise by now, sad as he was such a handsome, elegant man in his prime. But regardless of that, he is still the one and only Ian Hendry - and much missed.
Many actors today think they have what he had, that rare charisma and presence - but they are sadly mistaken!

If you watch ITV 4 regularly they show this plus the other episodes on rotation. This morning saw the beginning of series 3. Spoiler alert-it's probably been got at by the politically correct mob.....

He looked great in the still from 'Armchair Theatre - A Cold Peace', filmed in 1965. He could pass for a 70 year old here. It's amazing how quickly his health and appearance declined.

0:36 Ian Hendry looks a bit unsteady on his feet in this shot - was he acting drunk?

Growing up in the 70,s and 80,s you heard stories about how the police operated and it was similarly depicted in the sweeney. No copper frightened of the crims, a good hiding for disrespect, borstals for the naughty boys worked wonders and the jails were run and controlled by the guvnor and his guards.
    What do we have today:-
police are to scared to say boo in case they breach the human rights of the offenders, prisoners running the prisons as the guv and his men can,t cope and all the wannabe crims do this🖕 because they know that even if caught it is a life of riley behind bars.
Bring back the policing of the 70,s/80,s, bring back the borstals and allow the prison guvnors and guards run the prisons as the should.👊 With a firm bloody hand.!!
