I live in a restricted antenna HELL location but I had the big MFJ loop. Worked well indoors but really not portable. So I did a side by side with the MFJ 935-b and both were equal. A few weeks ago I ran 5 watts from my FT 891 and worked ON4UN. His massive antenna picked up my 5 watts but I did get into Alaska and Washington, State with 10 watts.I am really amazed how well it nulls out QRN. I now have a 3/8th OD copper tubing that I use just for 20 meters and I noticed DX is stronger I made my own PVC cross from PVC found where new homes are being built. My next move is picking up a few cheap tape measures from the dollar store. Any antenna is better then a cold rig sitting on the shelf Excellent videos Many thanks 73 BOB AF2DX
I truly have seen it all now!!! This is the height of ingenuity - well done guys! I've been dormant since completing my RAE 33 years ago, and am waiting to have my licence reinstated (G1VXD). Things are so different now especially with all the helpful youtube video's such as your own. I'm looking for ideas for discrete HF antenna's as I have particularly snarky neighbours who are already complaining about high pitched noises when I don't even have a receiver yet let alone a TX! Thanks so much for your inspiration - 73's.
What a great video! I just got my MFJ-936 and -9232 and experimenting :-D In the German ham radio magazine "cqDL" 2023-01 an antenna with a tape measure is shown for 10m to 20m
I must say I am extremely impressed with your tape measure antenna,,a super portable and pocketable idea. well done keep the ideas coming. Alan in the UK.
Glad I found this. I was personally wondering how well a tape measure would work as a loop since there would be a certain amount of tape left over. Doesn't seem to matter! I just bought an MFJ 935C at the Dayton ham fest, so I'll be playing with it soon!
Good job guys! What an antenna! Eric, your group always seems to have a great time. One of these days I am going to drive down from Fleming Island, FL to meet you guys in person. 73!
Love the video! On a small lot in CA and think this is a good option. I max out at a 20m dipole, but this has charachter too! I have a few bike rims lying around - who woulda thunk...Thanks, AI6OU
So I guess you would connect the antenna to your SWR first, tune your frequency then re-connect the antenna to your radio and your good to go? Oh; by the way, great video. Really motivational. At 5 watts, how close can you be to the antenna without any health damage? Thanks in advance.
+Jose Guzman I meant to say circumference in the video.. the 20 meter loop is 13 feet. not the standard quarter wave length.. the diameter of the loop can vary, as long as the length of wire is 13 feet.. larger the loop lower the frequency.
Just goes to show that you don't have to have a pretty antenna to work good ham radio. Cause thats one ugly antenna LOL :) While y'all were there did you rf burn any manatees in the river? :) Impressive setup Im gonna have to get me one of those mfj-935b now. :)
Have any one experimented any longer with this little tuner? Found someone who is double looping for 40 meters and it seems to be working fine! th-cam.com/video/QC6lJWenUQ4/w-d-xo.html
Yes, I have the MFJ-936b loop tuner and used a 7' x 7' PVC X- frame with 2 turns of wire and an additional door knob capacitor in parallel at the tuner connections to the loop to help resonate the loop on 80M, with equally impressive results. I believe the value of the door knob cap was about 50pf at 10KV. The loop was sitting in a spare bedroom and running a full 100watts into it. SSB had good results and digital modes running lower power were equally good.
Sorry but if I can't see the rf ammeter during transmission could be a fake. The meter tape material and the electrical joint can't carry the RF current so the qso radio could be connected to other real antenna ouside the video field :-(
OK.. there is no fake news here, I will advise you to please leave my video channel and never return.. I am not a fake, and you do not deserve to watch this.,.. 73
the tape measure antenna has been taken by manufacturers and sold across the world because of my video. i did not get anything from that idea, so it is my loss.. but it actually worked..
@@HamRadioConcepts ..tape measure antenna is a dipole voltage radiator not a loop current one so the loop antenna material will carry a great amount of a rf current like 80-100 Amp using a standard 100W rig.

Both of those antennas are awesome. Cant wait to see what's next.
Inspiring video. Purchased a 936B. You know when they say that if you have a hammer, world looks like... same with these
Mikko Niska how do u like this 936b? Is it good or should i get for the 935b?
Loops are such fun to play with! Made a few QRP contacts using home made loop and wow what a blast! 73' de WB5PUN

Your "Ham Radio Concepts" announcer is a real hoot and what a great voice too!
Eric it's amazing how things radiate no matter what it is good job Eric thanks for sharing this video

Now THAT was cool! Loved the tape measure loop!
Love the ingenuity. It looks like a lot of fun!
+wb416 What were the lengths on the PVC pipe. If you said, I missed it.

Ha Haaaaaaaaaaaaa! I love it. Real old school that de-mystifies and entertains all in one. Great job guys.
Great video guys loved it 👍👍will be trying this one out in the uk
Fantastic video guys
Eric your team they're amazing
wow' boy it s simply amazing!!!
Just great,73s from William,N,Ireland
Great fun at the event Eric. Just subscribed to your channel. This video is awesome!!! 73 de Rick N4WRW
i just found this 2021 i
ts great real Ham fun
god bless you all 73
Eric, people are asking for the pvc lengths. Can you give that info please?
still enjoying your videos, very informative!
Nice. Way to go. Now that's putting brain to work.
Great video! Thing I like to know is which works better, the lufkin tape or stanley tapemeasure.hihi
thats frigging awesome lmao ...thumbs up guys cheers and 73s
Entertaining video. Would have been even better if you had covered the operation of the MFJ 935B. Which is what I assumed you were going to do. 73.
Love this thing. 👍
can you give instructions on the frame you made for the loop antenna? I would look to duplicate the frame.
What was your RF power?

I’m not able to tune the swr less than 3.5 using this loop tuner on 40m although i’m using the recommend wire length (28ft) what should i do??? Thanks
You may have to adjust the loop length, it's not exact as the manual states
mind blown
Brilliant!
I never thought about using a tape measure for the loop.....so the measurement its based on the length of the wire (tape) or the diameter of the loop?

Well, 10m ... could be anything for an antenna!
AND he's vaping!!!!
+Tim Nixon Yes LOL i had to cut some of the "fog sessions" out of the video LOL
+HamRadioConcepts Vapin and hammin.. I do that too.. usually point a fan indoors to keep the fog away from the equipment..
Check out this guy who's hot rodded a 936B:
