what grit diamond is that u lap it with first? i cant get anything good off my charnley, i lapped it flat, then 2000 paper on glass, then 12,000 diamond. and scratch pattern is everywhere and no good shave whatsoever.
My Charnleys are not that soft. But they're natural stones so differences in hardness are normal. On mines i use them like Arkansas and I love the edges. Best results for me is using wd40. If I burnish it even more I can probably use water, it's something I need to try. On hard ones like mine I use a coticule to dress the surface. Also similar is the Llyn Idwal stone. Except those never have red inclusions and they can also be grey.. Charnley usually have red inclusion and are always green. Both are novaculite like Arkansas. Let us know how the shave goes.. 😉
mariusz kalwer you might be correct... this stone was sent to me from UK so i could play with it for a while. The owner said it was a Charnley but who knows.
Great video
Stone actually looks like a lyn Idwal to my eye
Either stone makes for an excellent finisher
Well done
Was going to say the same thing.
I agree
I use mine with oil and it works great. My Charnley is my go to stone whenever I run in trouble with a razor.
I must get one for my own... im digging it!
Try doing a shave video with the edge you got.
I might but the owner gave a tip on making the edge further awesome... so i might make it then...
Robert very interesting!👍Can't wait to see the shave test of the GD66 after being honed on a Charnely Forest... thanks brother! 👍🙂👍
Can't wait to see the shave video, Robert! 👍👍👍👍👍

Thanks for stopping by and you contributing comments! I like it... i will try with some honing oil next... shaving tonight...
Heh. I was saying that I use WD40.
I think that you are wrong my friend. This stone is not charnley forest . This is Llyn Idwal. I have this same stone...yours it is a very nice one.

This is definitely LLyn Idwal. Also a good stone., but I get much better shave off my Charnley Forest.
mariusz kalwer might have to let my buddy know that this might not be a C forest
Yes , please do so ..and don't forget to let the rest of the world as well.
I thought they were one and the same.
Would you ever consider selling this stone
This one was a loner that came from a friend from the UK … its back with owner.
how's the shave?
MasterofPlay7 pretty good! Like a coti smooth but keener... i think i am going to use oil to finish with it and see what we get
WD40 works amazing with these. It's the only way I get best possible edge. No slurry. But then again, I don't go to it after 8k.
Awesome! Thank you for the input, if this was my stone I will try with WD-40. I think I will try next with Smith’s honing oil
Üstadım taşların da usturada muhtesem görünüyor çok güzeller
Does not look at all like a Charnley Forest stone to me tbh. Looks more like a Grecian Hone/Llyn Idwal.
Ive been told that before. It came from the UK as a CF so i ran with it as such. Great lil stone
