    About this webinar
"I have never concealed the fact that I regarded him as my master; indeed I fancy I have never written a book in which I did not quote from him. But it has not seemed to me that those who have received my books kindly take even now sufficient notice of the affiliation. Honesty drives me to emphasize it." So wrote Lewis about the 19th century Scottish novelist, teacher, and poet George MacDonald. Lewis truly did seem a little frustrated that his readership continued to be so unfamiliar with this author, and throughout his adult life he never stopped recommending MacDonald's books to readers and friends alike. Months before he died, he placed MacDonald's Phantastes at the very top of the list of books which had most shaped his vocational attitude and his philosophy of life. Join us for an introduction to the man Lewis was keen for his readers to know, with MacDonald scholar Dr Kirstin Jeffrey Johnson.

Okay, okay, you've convinced me to give that Calvinist goof another try, geez. 😂
I've been a lifelong Lewis fan and felt especially called out by this. I was aware of how much Lewis loved abd and took inspo fron MacDonald, but I could never get into him and found his Great Divorce cameo jarring. I recently reread GD and wondered why I was so put off by the cameo originally. Made me think I need to reread his writings as a now older human with less prejudice towards different schools of theology. I think when i was first getting into Lewis, I felt very defensive towards certain theologians. Now I'm embracing the beauty of appreciating people we may not always agree with. ❤
    Thanks for a lovely lecture!
