I did a bear hunt in Maine with Hal. Shot a beat 1 hour of the hunt I sat the rest of the day talking to Hal about deer hunting. It was definitely a great day.

I always found bucks have pointy toes. Compared to the does. Back toes/feet. Front toe seem to be more rounded because of pawing at the ground. I don't know. My best explanation. Lol

This is a nice change of pace. These old timers offer a lost art. In most parts of the country. I actually grew up in a deer camp, that preferred this method. Shitload of walking though. Glad I was younger.😅 And by the way, I'm considered an old-timer, now.😮

Grumpy old man always has tracking in the plan. What most hunters don't get is that there are places in New York where you can't pattern deer. Northern woods into Canada tracking and glassing is the only way to go!!
The info obtained from tracks is vital to a hunters success, sex, size, age, direction and more in depth of track on weight of the deer. A lost art I see coming back I'm putting faith in the kids today, get your nose out of the phone and get in the Big woods

Dan will go down as a legend of deer hunting and he has put in the time in the woods that's necessary for success in the world of deer hunting there are a lot of Big money guys with the perfect farms, perfect patterns, loads of cameras and stands and in my world that's just not true hunting in its pure sense of hunt for meat to feed the family. I'm not big on trophy only hunting. Love this sport and I love Dan infault like me you cut him he bleeds Buck urine and doe pee

So the mature bucks in Maine do not have bedding areas ? They just constantly move and never bed in the same spot ? They just bed at random ?

I think Hal does not understand bedding the way we do, and he tracks when deer rut, and often in rut they can go miles. I personally know people who shoot big bucks in Maine quite often "Beast style"... Out of respect I did not call him out on that, he was here to discuss what he is an expert at... Snow tracking bucks
