Hey I have been blocked by les frenchies for no reason at all. Dont even know what I have done wrong? Tried to post a message to resell tickets for Roland Garros. Can someone of the administrators help? If it isnt allowed to post tickets, oke. But let me know instead of just blocking me
I went to the Louvre with my cousin last August and we saw pretty much everything covered in this video starting with the original foundation and moat. When I saw the Mona Lisa, I was like '😐.' Then I turned around and saw the Wedding Feast at Cana and I was like '😲.'
Thank you for the opportunity to shoot this video with you! It was impressive seeing how many people recognized you in the Louvre! I'm very happy with how the video came up, it's such a stressful exercise haha. See you soon, Walid
It says something to me that you reside in Paris and can visit Le Louvre multiple times, yet you hire a tour guide for this visit! I take that as a lesson! Thank you!
I loved Le Louvre. It was amazing to be here and to see all the things I've only seen in textbooks, on TV or the internet. I've always loved Ancient Egypt and the artifacts on display were incredible. We spent 3 hours with our 17 year old son and had a great time. The museum itself is so beautiful-don't forget to look up ❤️
I’ve always loved the Louvre, not for the Mona Lisa though, but for the architecture and all the other fascinating pieces of art that people may skip over, glad you brought those to light! Amazing work as always.
Le Louvre: Mona Lisa and some other stuff. 😀😃😄 When I stayed in Paris around 30 years ago I visited the Louvre three times, spending a day in each wing.
The painting by Delacroix that decorates the ceiling of that room is entitled "Apollo Killing the Python" and it was celebrated by many as worthy of Rubens whom Delacroix admired and imitated in his use of bright, warm colours.
🇫🇷A fabulous and favorite cafe next to the Louvre Pyramid: Le Cafe Marly right near the Pyramids, absolutely glorious people and Pyramid watching. Also in the Louvre itself : Terrasse Colbert, another magnificent view and very reasonable prices. Thank you Colleen and Antoine for a fun visit to the Louvre❤
One of the best decisions I made was getting the "Amis De Louvre" membership. You get to use the group entrance, so you are in the galleries at 9:02 and I was able to get 10-15 minutes alone looking at the Venus De Milo. It's 80 Euro. It also gets you around the timed ticket requirements. I went 8 times in 2 weeks, and did not see everything. If you are planning on going 2x the time saved in line plus the costs breaks even. The gallery closures that are scheduled throughout the week are important if there is a specific work, or subject area you want to spend time in. They were moving sculpture the second week I was there, and there is a spectacular piece I was too intimidated to try and sketch and then when I went back twice the gallery was closed.
We were in Paris a couple of weeks ago. I can’t thank you enough for mentioning the different entrances. Our tickets stated we could enter in the main entrance or the Carrousel. The main entrance line was so long, but using the Carrousel entrance we had no wait at all. That tip saved us so much time!
Wow , a whole hour cut from your last visit . You are getting very efficient . I think it is always wise to add a bit of strategic planning to such a visit .
Ive been last year in octobre in Paris and i visited Louvre twice. When i realised how huge it is, i could not believe how amazing this place is. Idk if u can give this place a proper tour in a few months even. Every painting is story for itself, and u can spend hour starring at it. Luckily this year im going again and im gonna go to Louvre at lest once, but this time i rly need to plan this visit
This video did not disappoint! So informative, and of course the art and artifacts were amazing. When I was a kid I saw the Mona Lisa at the Met in NYC. I remember thinking how small the Mona Lisa was and wondering why the adults were clamoring to see her! Kind of agree with Antoine! When I saw the painting of Liberté it made me think of the Statue of Liberty....just a thought!
Michele and I absolutely love your channel (and you two)…. So happy to see you at 238K - We are watching your videos over again since we will be in Paris next week for 11 days. (So good to finally be retired!) 🎉
Thank you for the overview of the Louvre. We have definitely booked a guided tour with your recommendation for our trip in October. My first time to the museum and want to get a chance to view its highlights.
We were there on Thursday the 16th for my son’s birthday. We were there for 6 hours!!! And have Monday booked too! But he’ll be studying art history in college so this is his dream! I was exhausted, but never saw ANYTHING like the Louvre!
The Louvre was the one museum that completely overwhelmed us!! I felt like I was just running to check off the pieces we wanted to see--most of the ones in your video. But, your guide was very helpful!! I enjoyed the other museums so much more!!
For me, it's really important to have a guide in the Louvre (even though we live here and can easily come back again and again). We've been many times with multiple guides and still see and learn more every time.
The man who stole the Mona Lisa was an Italian called Vincenzo Peruggia (1881-1925), an amateur painter who worked at the Louvre. On the 21st of August 1911, he took the painting out of its frame and, putting it under his uniform, a large white blouse, walked out of the building. Two years later he tried to sell it to the director of the Uffizi Museum in Florence. The director went to see him with two policemen who arrested Peruggia. The thief did not resist and said he just wanted to return the painting to Italy where it belonged. He served 7 months in prison and died twelve years later of a heart attack.
I sooooo wanted to purchase a poster of Napoleon crossing the alps but they were out of stock when i was there 7 weeks ago. Thank you so much for taking me back to the Louvre
@@arslongavitabrevis5136 oh, I can certainly understand your disappointment. I happened across Finelli's bust of the Pope's niece, Maria Barberini Duglioni. It's exquisite and awe inspiring. On the flight over I watched the movie starring Joaquin Phoenix as Napoleon. Brilliant strategist. The leader France needed to get the angry mob to cool it's blood lust.
Once again, this is such a fabulous video and shows the value of spending money to save time and sanity (our mantra)! Also, book tickets in advance if not using a guide. We know people who waited over 3 hours just to get a ticket. For anyone who feels overwhelmed, a guide is such a great idea. When we took our kids (10-14 at the time), I had them make a list of anything they wanted to see and they all cheekily said "the Garbage Pail Kid" aka, Mona Lisa. We entered the Louvre just as they opened with our prebooked tickets and made a beeline for her with a large group of other people. We then looped back just a bit to see a couple paintings I wanted to see, a couple sculptures, statues, and when we saw the last one, we had only been in the museum for 30 minutes. We walked more - we let our kids lead the way - and got food, probably at the museum for 4-5 hours total, but it was a really great experience.
WOW, I'm really a loner, but you really got me thinking about getting a guide on my next Louvre visit in December. Love the "inside" information they can give me. Merci Les Frenchies!!
We love Paris and museums and want to go back. In 2017 we got to visit and my daughter and I spent an entire day at the Musee d’Orsay and a couple of days later did the same at the Louvre on January 7. We didn’t know what had happened until we exited, stopped for a light snack and watched the news.
Really love your channel and found it helpful for my Paris trip last week. Although I didn’t have this video, I covered most of the same things in this video. I like how you put the room and location in this video. One step further would having a mini map showing the exact location. Although who knows how much it would help as I’d probably still get lost in there like I did last week. I consider myself a good navigator too.
Bonjour Antonine and Coleen. Planning our next trip to Paris. We opted for D’Orsay last time. So now Le Louvre is a must. Thanks again for information that is spot on. Merci. No. Merci beaucoup 😊
We followed your Louvre list of top pieces and got to see all but two. One was in an area that was closed and the other was off exhibit. (Liberty) We were able to see the Notre Dame exhibit too, which was wonderful.
Thank you so much Les Frenchies for such a great video, I will be in Paris for 5 days in July and your videos on the transport system, sim card suggest and restaurants etc have been so so helpful.
Really enjoyed your trip to the Louvre - have been twice - missed seeing the old part underground and the area with the jewels. Thank you for sharing from Australia.
thank you for sharing the time in Louvre i have been so many time you are right you need a month to see everything. I am Assryian and you showed my culture i am proud assryian woman and the king of assryian was a woman by name of Shamrian thank you merci
Colleen and Antoine, you really outdid yourselves with this video. I have lived in Paris for years, and I learned a lot from this. As a child I remember the entrance to this enormous museum was a little door to the south-west of the pyramid. I have never used a guide in Paris anywhere because my father was a historian who gave us the low-down on everything. But Whalid is fantastic and I would love to have him as a guide. When people tell me they want to go to the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa, I try to dissuade them. I don't think it is worth the trouble. I haven't seen it since the early 70's before it was put behind glass. There are so many other fantastic things to see there. My personal top favorites are the Coronation of Napoleon, Liberty Leading the People, and the Victory of Samothrace. That is a tall order because there are so many other things which I absolutely love there as well. There has been talk in France of rebuilding the Tuileries Palace in order to display more of the Louvre's collections. In spite of it's enormous size, they have so much in storage.
The first time my husband and I visited the Louvre (2002), we were enthralled! And then terrified because it was closing for the day and we couldn't find our way out. I've been back several times and will use a guide to hone in on some of the areas I haven't yet seen (90%).
Thank you so much. Love your content. just went to the Louvre on May 25 and your video helped me to get through the highlights with the kids in just over 1 hour. I’m bummed I missed the code of Hammurabi but saw everything else. We suffered at the d’Orsay for the first half of the visit until we found Van Gogh but loved the entire Louvre time.
Going to a big gallery like this is something that is impossible to absorb. You hit a point where you become “all arted out” well, I do…I spent several hours at the NY Met Museum, and left feeling that i had barely scratched the surface there. Most of the art Museums in Australia are smaller, you can see most of what is on display in a morning or afternoon, and… you rarely experience crazy crowding I always knew that the crowds were huge but I hadn’t seen just how crazy. Note to self, plan your Louvre visit for winter!
We love the Louvre and is one of the reason we visit often. We stay nearby at Hotel Regina and really enjoy Friday nights there. We always enter through the carousel area with no issues.
OMG! You’re almost at a quarter of a million subscribers! Please do another ‘celebration’ video. Your last one is my all-time favorite (and you also stayed at my favorite hotel, Pavillon Faubourg Saint-Germain).
We have a world-class art museum located in the world-renowned Calatrava building along Lake Michigan in Milwaukee. We are 2 hours away from Chicago...also with a world-renowned art museum. Yes, the Louvre is worth visiting but once is enough for me. Bonjour.
Excellent video! I confirm, as a Parisian that have been there many times, I prefer to have a guide so I can get the most out of this beautiful museum!
Excellent video! You have given me confidence to return. My last few trips to Paris (I go for two months, every March-April) I deliberately avoided the Louvre because of the crowds and chaos. With some 200 museums in Paris, I decided to focus on all the other ones - and returning to my favorites. Now I think I’m ready to tackle the Louvre again - perhaps hiring a guide. So, thank you. Btw I’m sure you have mentioned this in the past videos, but one of my favorite cafés, Café Marly, is hidden behind pillars near the Louvre Pyramid. Great people-watching. I learned about it from a French friend. It’s one of her favorite places to meet!
We hit all the things you did from the old fort base onward in 2 hours or so (and got lost in the process 😅). The room the Mona Lisa is in was HOT so we were in and out. Liberty Leading the People was awesome to see in person
I enjoyed the Louvre but you’re right, you have to focus on what you want to see and then do that first. I last went in September and the crowds weren’t so bad. The Mona Lisa is best seen in conjunction with other da Vinci masterpieces in the Louvre.
I am so right to visit Le Louvre while im still single last year to enjoy it at my own pace. I realized tho that i did not see Venus de Milo coz i took so much time looking for Mona Lisa! 😅 Need to come back! Im now ok to come back with my husband and kids next time 🥰
I came to check if I could see myself in this because i saw you walk by one day when I was working and indeed I am ! (I'm the museum attendant at the Winged Victory of Samothrace :D)
We are SO glad you both were recommended to us!! My husband and I will be in your beautiful city for the FIRST time September 1-4. We are planning on the Louvre on Sunday 9/1. Would love to meet up with you when we’re are there! I too have a channel wlsaaa or my name Lisa Marie Thomas. Looking forward to our trip. 👍🏻
With the guide, we did A LOT in just 2 hours without feeling overwhelmed. It was quite pleasant. We never felt rushed. And, at the end, we were satisfied and ready to go.
After visiting the Louvre 2 weeks ago I understand why people get lost. There are room numbers on the map but I haven’t seen a lot of them in the rooms themselves. I think they should really improve that. Fortunately all elevators are lettered so that sometimes helped with my orientation.
Provenance, age, one of a kind, the cultural value of art, etc. They exist long after man & cities are gone. Art/artifacts time stamp a period….bronze…..
Amazing Wedding Feast at Cana although for this Philistine my feet come first. Love the idea of this but with my bosses, sticking to outside Paris,Food and Wine Paris and shopping of course.
An interesting point about the Mona Lisa being so popular because it was stolen. Would the same apply to Vermeer's The Concert if it's ever recovered, I wonder?
My husband and I are coming to Roland Garros and we will be in Paris on the first Sunday of June, I read somewhere that entry to the Louvre is free on the first Sunday of the month, is that true?
Not all the musées are free the first Sunday of each month, only some of them. For example, It is the case in Paris for le musée d'Art moderne, le Centre Pompidou et le musée d'Orsay.
Thank you so much, the Louvre is on our list as a full day tour. Can you tell me are you able to leave the Louvre to get lunch, at one of the many bistros you had in another video I watched , and go back n without having to pay again?
No. Once you leave your ticket is complete. There is a restaurant inside the museum. And there is a good court in the exit area if you stay line and want a quick bite after. But you would need a new ticket to get back in.
FanTAStic video!!! Very helpful, interesting from beginning to end and I would like to visit. Don’t really care about the Mona Lisa but, there is a very large battle scene across the room or around the corner that I have seen images of that I would like to see closer. Vibrant reds and whites and city walls and it looks very realistic. Not blood and guts, though there were probably red splotches. I don’t remember the details but do remember the size, the realism, the depth and the detail. Skills far superior to mine, I believe, but I would like to see. I remembered it during your tour. Thank you.
If it's any help, we went to the Denon wing first and it wasn't too bad, had lunch, then explored the Richelieu wing after and it was pretty empty. I think more people hang around Winged Victory and Mona Lisa which is fine because where we were was pretty peaceful!
Lovely! When we visited the Assyrian section was being refurbished. How could you forget to mention that one wing was occupied by the Ministry of Finances, which had to be physically evicted, even before the atrocious pyramid was built?😂 How could you skip the Rubens series?
The Ruben room is closed at the moment, like the apartments of Napoleon III. They said they will reopen both for the Olympics, but we are still waiting. Walid
I took my kids and they hated it so we were in and out in less than 2 hours. If anyone wants to borrow them for their trip let me know; guaranteed to make you want to leave within 1 to 2 hours of constant complaining....
I'm so sorry that was your experience. I truly hope you can make it back! And here's hoping as they get older, your kids will look back and appreciate that you took them. I have one kid who is definitely NOT a museum person but she looks back even a couple years later and her opinion is "yeah, it was pretty cool, I guess." I'll take it.
The trick to seeing the Louvre with kids is to build their interest (the fort, the mummies, etc). Another trick is to hire three guides that do scavenger hints for kids and families. We've talked with quite a few families that really enjoyed it.
Lol not for nothing, but if I were a kid, I'd hate it too except for the pyramid part. Museum of natural history would have been and still is more my thing.
We stopped to Paris on a cruise. The port was in LeHavre, 3 hours from Paris. We had 6 hours round trip, and 3 hours in Paris. My husband and I planned our Paris itinerary down to the minute to decide if we wanted to try to do it. In 3 hours, we saw the Eiffel Tower, stood right under it, walked through the lawns, got souvenirs, uber'd to the Louvre, had an excessively long wait for the ladies room (I was going to explode), saw the Mona Lisa, Winged Victory and Venus De Milo, looked through a gift shop, got slightly lost finding the exit (entered through the pyramid and came out somewhere else past a bunch of amazing shops??), got some baguettes, took photos outside the pyramid on those block things, complete with our finger on top of the pyramid...Walked from the Louvre to Place De La Concored, and made it back on our charter bus with 15 minutes to spare! 😂😂😂😂 I don't recommend that high speed of an itinerary unless you're prepared to ruuuuun. But we are so proud of ourselves 😂😂😂 Lesson learned -plan new trip to Paris NOT on a cruise and actually spend some real time enjoying the city.
By the end of the 20th century, I accompanied two couples of fellow linguists - one American, the other Japanese [alphabetical order]. They wanted to see Mona Lisa and Michael Angelo's slaves. Mona Lisa was not hard to find, but I got lost on my way to the slaves. When we eventually reached them, we were exhausted, and decided to call it a day. LOL

Medusa raft is RAD
I live in Paris and here are my top 3 Louvre advice:
January
February
November
Sweet since I plan to visit in november
We visited in late November and it was great, busy but not uncomfortably packed.
I go so far as to say - June July August ❌. Don’t, but check out other museums/galleries. Less fraught experience.
I went last year in february and spend 8 hours I loved it!!!
Thanks for the tips! I’ll be in Paris in mid-October so I’ll take in the d’Orsay & possibly the Cluny & save the Louvre for another time.

Thank you for this super helpful video. I visited the Louvre 14 years ago and this video makes me want to go back.
Thanks for the free educational tour. This TH-cam account is so cool!
We loved The Louvre when we visited last Spring. We spent 4-5 hours there. 🇫🇷
❤️
♡♡♡♡♡
Bon courage! ❤️
We hit all the things you did from the old fort base onward in 2 hours or so (and got lost in the process 😅). The room the Mona Lisa is in was HOT so we were in and out. Liberty Leading the People was awesome to see in person
🙂🙂🙂
It's criminal to only spend 2 hours at such an amazing museum. I haven't been yet, but the last time I was in NYC I spent 3 *days* at The Met. :D
Thank you so much, another great video, really helpful for those who are not visit Louvre yet! And the guide really good as well.
Le Louvre is just amazing!
Thank you VERY much for this one!
We'll only be in Paris for a scant 2 days, so this is perfect 🙂
I enjoyed the Louvre but you’re right, you have to focus on what you want to see and then do that first.
I last went in September and the crowds weren’t so bad.
The Mona Lisa is best seen in conjunction with other da Vinci masterpieces in the Louvre.
👍
That’s where I sit inside louvre waiting for my friend when I go to Paris.
Nice tour, thanks!! 👍😀
Glad you enjoyed it
I am so right to visit Le Louvre while im still single last year to enjoy it at my own pace. I realized tho that i did not see Venus de Milo coz i took so much time looking for Mona Lisa! 😅 Need to come back! Im now ok to come back with my husband and kids next time 🥰
I truly wish for you greater wealth and success in every possible way Ma'am.
I love your video.
This guide is amazing! Very informative video! Thank you so much for sharing! 👌💙🙏
Thanks for the interesting video!
Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Took my granddaughter...she enjoyed many things but 3 hrs was enough...I've been 3 times..always something new.
With the guide, we did A LOT in just 2 hours without feeling overwhelmed. It was quite pleasant. We never felt rushed. And, at the end, we were satisfied and ready to go.
I was there this Thursday 16.05,24,it's beautiful
❤️❤️❤️
After visiting the Louvre 2 weeks ago I understand why people get lost. There are room numbers on the map but I haven’t seen a lot of them in the rooms themselves. I think they should really improve that. Fortunately all elevators are lettered so that sometimes helped with my orientation.
I never understood why these artifacts are so precious.
Provenance, age, one of a kind, the cultural value of art, etc. They exist long after man & cities are gone. Art/artifacts time stamp a period….bronze…..
There's something for everyone in Paris. It seems that your something is somewhere else.
very impressive and quality video. 10/10
Much appreciated!
Amazing Wedding Feast at Cana although for this Philistine my feet come first.
Love the idea of this but with my bosses, sticking to outside Paris,Food and Wine Paris and shopping of course.
Your awesome and awesome video be safe out there 😎👍🙏
Life is good 🙂
An interesting point about the Mona Lisa being so popular because it was stolen. Would the same apply to Vermeer's The Concert if it's ever recovered, I wonder?
I really enjoyed this!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I will be visiting tomorrow, with time in my ticket which is 0900H, which entrance should I go? Thank you
My husband and I are coming to Roland Garros and we will be in Paris on the first Sunday of June, I read somewhere that entry to the Louvre is free on the first Sunday of the month, is that true?
Not all the musées are free the first Sunday of each month, only some of them. For example, It is the case in Paris for le musée d'Art moderne, le Centre Pompidou et le musée d'Orsay.
Absolutely delightful video. Thank you very much.
It was truly our pleasure.
We toured the Louvre in 2.5 hours on our honeymoon circa 1975. Didn’t have the street and underground hustlers to deal with back then.
Felt like I walked through the same room 10x trying to figure out if I missed something. Being able to cross off rooms on a paper map would be nice.
thank you
Lovely. Thank you.
We went March, we loved it. and yes we got lost too lol
lol...everybody does
Thank you so much, the Louvre is on our list as a full day tour.
That many people in a large museum would make me…surly. And itchy. J'aurais besoin d'une mousse au chocolat et d'un cocktail après.
Thank you.
There are some stunning and emotional works of art there.
What time, day did you go ? Except for Mona Lisa it didn’t look crowded. When I went in 1970 there was no crowd at Mona Lisa
If it's any help, we went to the Denon wing first and it wasn't too bad, had lunch, then explored the Richelieu wing after and it was pretty empty. I think more people hang around Winged Victory and Mona Lisa which is fine because where we were was pretty peaceful!
Oh wow, that's super helpful!
Thank you!
Amazing Vid
tres fantastk!!
merci!
How can I hire this gentleman for a tour? Does he have his own business/website? TY
Here you go lesfrenchiestravel.com/things-to-do-paris/le-louvre/
Lovely! When we visited the Assyrian section was being refurbished. How could you forget to mention that one wing was occupied by the Ministry of Finances, which had to be physically evicted, even before the atrocious pyramid was built?😂 How could you skip the Rubens series?
😅
The Ruben room is closed at the moment, like the apartments of Napoleon III. They said they will reopen both for the Olympics, but we are still waiting. Walid
Thank you!🥰👍
Your welcome
Is Map in english available inside Louvre??
Time for a glass of 🍾
Absolutely!
I’m so sorry that happened. My kiddo is 7, and I think we will wait until he’s 18 to go to the Louvre 😂
I love Louvre, but can t handle the crowd, too many people
true story
❤❤❤
I don't recommend that high speed of an itinerary unless you're prepared to ruuuuun. But we are so proud of ourselves 😂😂😂
Lesson learned -plan new trip to Paris NOT on a cruise and actually spend some real time enjoying the city.
😂 glad you had fun!!
Great! But I would like to pass some time in Monet room.
You should!
LOL
Oh.... that's easy to do. Have you seen our first Louvre video? I look like Tweedle Dumb in that one wandering around everywhere!
