These Mantis Shrimp are beautiful, amazing, and deadly. It took them some 20 million years to get their body into the shape that would best ensure survival. This video shows that they spend, it seems, all their time and energy in offense, in order to eat, or defense. They basically live in hiding, alone. What a terrible existence, at least from a human perspective, although it has nonstop drama, tension, and probably meaning, that is, everything he does is goal-oriented. And his unbelievable eyes!
That Shrimp is like your neighbor who brings every piece of junk home and puts it in his front yard. When the Neighbors complain about it, he attacks and eats them.
the mantis going back and forth in the video foraging for household items to bring back to build its cave makes me think about watching humans going to and fro looking for stuff to buy to furnish their houses when they are out shopping.
This is no ordinary "shrimp". 300 million years of evolution has created a perfect killing machine that is incredibly smart, pugnacious and frankly creative.
Not many living things are capable of "rolling" an object with such dexterity and intent. Pretty smart shrimp!
Even with all the firepower he has, he really is a very unsecure fellow like a full time gunslinger and part time musician.

I love this guy
They look big, and juicy. One wonders if they're as tasty as they look. This could be the start of a great new fishing industry.
Could have passed quite convincingly as a crackhead.
