The 2015 Corvette Z06: Is it Enough?

- The C7 Z06 is being asked to carry the mantle of both track toy and supercar - does the latest, greatest Chevy have shoulders broad enough for the task? Can it replace both the C6 Z06 and ZR1, or does asking it to fill both roles mean it doesn't excel at either? We drive the new top Corvette on the track and street to answer that question.

Tommy Wayne Yeah I agree about the C6 but the new chassis here is incredibly stiffer than the C6 was. I've always been a fan of less technology to some extent in a true drivers car, but this C7 is pretty darn impressive for the money. Shit i'm still a fan of the C5 z06 lol
In May 2023 I bought a 2016 Z06, 3LZ, convertible, A8, in Daytona sunrise orange metallic, with Kalahari interior. I've added a cold air intake and new larger super charger lid. I love it! Thanks for the video!
I have a Z06/Z07 and an '11 ZR1. The Z06 is damn good. At it's first track day, it impressed the hell out of me. It's just a better car in every way than the ZR1. I checked off every option on the Z06 M7, and it stickered $14k less than my ZR1. I broke it in on a 600 mile highway trip, it got 28mpg. Interior comfort is a big improvement and greatly appreciated. Put it in touring mode, take out the roof panel, and it cruises effortlessly.
One thing: I think there should be at least a 200 lb weight limit on these test drivers. You should at least be able to see your dick without a mirror.
Well, at least we got a good review of how the Corvette drove when it weighed over 4000lbs. I'd imagine having these hungry hippos does soften the ride a bit. Way to go America...

I'm glad that GM went with this 8 speed automatic and not a DCT, this transmission is rock solid and performs great while being smoother than a DCT around town. That said its impossible to beat the sheer enjoyment of driving the wonderful 7 speed manual GM has perfected in the new Z06 and as most only track the car infrequently or not at all I too opted for the 7 speed and totally dig it! Many tracks are also better handled by the manual. Either way you cant go wrong but in my case, 7 speed is the choice, even drag racing can be conquered easily with the 7 speed, one watch of Jeremy Formato tearing up the quarter mile with a barely tweaked 2015 Z06 7 speed manual at 10.08 and 139 mph is enough to convince me my runs will also be great fun!

GM has done an excellent job on this 2015 Z06 model. I like the new corvette. Time to make a come back America. GM-- with 650hp/650 to the rear wheels. It should be a great fun car to drive. American Muscle!
Love the automatic's straight line performance..BUT have been seeing alot of trouble with overheating during track use. It's lap times are slightly slower than the manual(with a good driver).

I think the real question here is how many pounds can that Z06 cockpit handle w/o expiring.
I have a Stock 14 Shelby. On the track, for me to hang with 2008 Z06's I have to buy pads and tires after each run. Plus I'm behind by 3 seconds. i would consider a 2015 Z06 after the 1st year passes.
No disrespect. How do you guys fit COMFORTABLY in the car. My left cheek took a few months to get comfortable .
He talks about about the carbon ceramic brakes but they show footage of the steal brakes.
Make it a 6-sp manual. No overdrive. No cylinder de-activation. Make down-force adjustable. Adjust more weight to rear...for more tracrtion. Need more oil coolers. 2" too wide. Make it 220 mph top speed. Doesn't need major overhaul....just these minor tweaks. More hp is not going help anymore. It need better aerodynamic type tweaks. Tires might also be a bit too wide to allow faster speed. I want a ultra vette that can beat the world for like 100K. That would be an engineering marvel. But Chev could do that. This vette has the potential in it. It just needs a bit more work done to it.
Blower is small for the z06 and it produces alot of heat soak.
really? i have only heard about the ECU cutting power during the 1st 1.5k mile break in period...

you can read about it there :) even after 9 pulls it didnt get heat soaked the engine pulled power due to the ECU.

The problem with these auto shift times that are posted is how they are measured. The shift time isn't measured from the time the shift button is pressed, it's measured when the computer decides to do the shift. An advertised 80ms shift can be in reality 500ms from the press of the button and not be consistent. If I had a vote I would go for the torque converter because of the engagement from a stop. A computer controlled clutch is too tricky with the travel of the brake pedal.

Is it enough? For the street? MORE than "enough". 300 HP is "enough" for the street. Especially in a major city like LA, NYC, Toronto...but for the track? Could always have more if everything else is up to par (suspension, brakes...etc.). Though, if you want to race...then you'd want sponsorship...so is 650HP/650LBTQ enough? HELL YA!! :) You can get to the next stop light in few fractions of a second. :) And IMHO it's not really about how much HP but more how efficiently everything works together more than if you have 650 or 706 (Dodge Challenger Hellcat) HP. I'd take a car that handles and accelerates more efficiently than a 1000 HP beast deigned for drag strips.
Awesome looking Corvette as you would expect, not like a crap audi, veyron or lambo crap, no the Corvette ZO6 is a proper looking "pony type" sports car..just as a sports car should look and the performance is amazing..yep better looking than anything out there..maybe along with the new jaguar, although the corvette still looks better to me and ferrari has some nice looking cars too.

Not enough..specially against the ACR and up coming Ford GT. Chevy needed a C&R aero package. Needs more rear grip.

Thanks George Jetson. I've been looking for a review that had a little more focus on everyday driving instead of track. I wanted a Porsche 911 Turbo S, but I figured I would kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get the Cadillac ATS V for my wife and the Z06 for me. I still wanted to be able to Hit the road in the Z06 (my Pontiac G8 has spoiled me), I didn't want a 100k car that I could only drive to the 7/11. If you know of any more vids on how it does on the street let me know.

There is a guy in New York that is going to drive his Z06/Z07 year round (with snow tires), so far all indicators are good.
I think the guy in the vid was hinting me that it is much stiffer than the Stingray but okay for him. That's not good. (well it has to be very noticeably stiffer because of the 200 ft/lb more of torque.)
I came from GT-R to ZL1 (GT-R is super stiff, while ZL1 is really big & comfy) and I sat in a Stingray and immediately the seat felt too small for any ride longer than half an hour, as the back rest cannot angle towards rear to my taste, very very disappointed. It's such a good car but the seat felt smaller than the 991s.
Turbo S does not drive better than Carrera S or 4S, except it accelerates a lot faster. If you can, test drive all these cars before you make a decision. (Stingray, Carrera S, Turbo S.)
That big of a guy in a sport car is funny. He has no business reviewing a sports car being that large. I know a few guys that ride sport bikes that brag about dropping a few pounds here and there like on exhaust system. When it is cheaper for them to drop 50 pounds of their own weight.
You need the 600hp+ to haul those tubbies around.
Manual is becoming outperformed by automatic trans nowadays, unfortunately. I really love driving manual w/ clutch but maybe it is time to go with automatic to keep up with performance.

Is it enough, the answer is NO. Performance is not refined enough, on paper it looks extremely powerful and it is, but the driving experience is not quite on par with the GTR or 911.This Z06 was badly outplayed by the heavier and less powerful GTR, so GM needs to take its time before it releases its next corvette or its gonna end up like this one.

anything over 400hp is utterly useless in the real world. And im including fun and passing people easily in that number. Otherwise it would be at 300. But Ive had a 333hp and I wanted a tad more.

To bad they gave it such a baby supercharger though and it doesn't have enough power, I was disappointed really, hell a mustang makes more power smh.

+craig howard Educate yourself. Check the static compression and then do the math on cylinder psi under boost. You will find the 1.9 blower is all it needs. The Mustang also weighs in at about 2 tons! Read more hotrod books or something! Shelby makes more but still only runs the quarter in high to mid 12's. Slow!!!

the zora zr1 is rumored to be an awd mid engine v-8 super car. It will be for the 8th generation not the 7th

I'd say then have all of the same things/design now in the next gen, but then ad the zora. But it be a shame for all corvettes to go that way.

It especially isn't pointless because it's already eclipsed the former ZR1's performance level and is slated to be the faster track car under ~$600k...at least for now.
