A lot of people don't remember that when Barbara Walters left The Today Show in 1976, Jane Pauley was her replacement at only 25 years old! Its so nice to see the student praising the teacher. Barbara was a trailblazer at ABC just as Jane was at NBC and now CBS. She will be missed

I remember as a first grader in 1966-67 riding the bus to school and hearing Barbara's voice on the bus driver's radio. You heard (or saw) no other female reporting national news in the mid-60s. It was just Barbara, period. RIP sweet lady...❤️❤️❤️

Growing up, watching news shows like 60-minutes and 20/20 was the highlight of my week. Barbara Walters had an air about her that was both soft, strong and stall ward. I appreciated how she didn't really interview, but sat in conversation, engaging, interesting, invoking, inspiring conversation with some the world's for most leaders and trailblazers in their own right. Her groundbreaking journalism opened the door and lead the path for generations of female journalists. I can oy imagine how her conversation/interview with God will be like. Rest in Peace 🕊️💜

Absolutely wonderful tribute. Many celebrities say they realized they'd "made it" when Walters called them for an interview. She was a tenacious, sneaky interviewer and she could somehow get people to tell stories to her they wouldn't relate to anyone else. I've worked with a couple of newspaper reporters like that, and they're worth their weight in solid platinum! She was, and continues to be, a trailblazer, even after her passing. May she rest well.

Just turned 40. Growing up in Kentucky I was constantly looking for something more. As a member of the LGBTQA+ community I felt so small in KY. Barbara showed me that others out there were like me. That I was going to be okay. With The View started my love of TV production. Thanks to Barbara I am still an Event Manager & Immersive Art Producer. She did so much more than just help women. She helped us too 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

As you see the glowing tributes to Barbara Walters, please remember that she once served as a beard for Roy Cohn.
That one act pretty much sums up what type of a person she was.
Okay, the merits of dating a gay man in the late 1950s is debatable, as I can understand wanting to help a guy fit into society during a time of prejudice against homosexuals, but it brings up the question of her level of integrity, as this was clearly a qui-pro-quo act to help further her career, and also brings up the question of what level of journalism we will receive from this woman, since she was helping Roy Cohn perpetrate a lie.
More importantly is the character of the man she chose to help. Roy Cohn was responsible for ruining countless lives as Joe McCarthy’s right-hand man in his hunt for communists, as well as McCarthy’s lesser-known crusade to drive homosexuals out of the federal government. (Ironic when you think of it.) In later years, Cohn became a mafia lawyer, was Donald Trump’s mentor, and was eventually disbarred because he got a dying client to change his will, leaving everything to him. Of course, when Walters was Cohn’s beard, he had only ruined people’s lives with the communist and homosexual witch hunt thing. All the other stuff would come later.
Barbara Walters wasn’t a trailblazer. She was an opportunist. If she’s a role model, we are in big trouble.
Read the play “Angels in America” to get a good handle on Roy Cohn’s personality.

We shall miss her, she opened the door and each one who followed never allowed it to close. She set the standard that others aspired too! And she inspired generations of women who saw that with hard work, dedication, compassion, and honesty there was no limitations to what a person could do. I was not a Barbara Walters fan, but I still watched most everything. I think Katie Couric used the word "unctuous" when describing Barbara's speaking style, and that word works for me. And some of Barbra's questions, especially to showbiz folk, OMG, ridiculous. Most people don't realize how petite Barbara Walters truly was. In person, she was a very small women, with a powerful stature. It really was remarkable, considering the men she was up against, and the men she had to overcome.

I remember when Jane Pauley replaced Walters on Today. I thought Pauley was too young (I was a college student), but I liked her. I’m glad she survived. But she never had the gravitas Walters had. For that, we looked to women TV reporters like Nancy Dickerson, Carol Simpson, and Cokie Roberts. This was a good tribute.

But Barbara was able to get Saddam Hussein to talk to her as well as Castro. Then the US politicians from Nixon, Johnson, I believe and Ford. Those with maybe Nancy Dickerson ladies couldn’t do the phones like Barbara could. Internationally, maybe the late Lisa Howard.
