I'm late to so many fine gatherings - just met Thom Moore this very morning, on a mental stroll that began with Patrick Kavanagh and 'Raglan Road' - I haven't a drop of Celtic blood, as far as I know; but this very Irish song by my American musical brother is of a piece with the deeply stirring sense of grace, beauty, truth, and longing that the poetry, music, languages, souls of Celtic 'thin places'. So glad to see the fountainhead of this wonderful song - he sings as beautifully as he wrote. Thanks be!

One of the most beautiful Irish songs ever. The maternal side of my family is from Cavan: Curran, McGourty, Erskine.

I used to hear Thom when he played with his band "Train to Sligo" on Friday nights at the Loch Ness Monster pub in Pasadena CA. The band at the time--early-mid 80's-- also consisted of Janie Crebs, Gerry O'Beirne, Jerry McMillan, and Judy..(?). Forgive me if I've misspelled any names. I always thought that Thom was one of the most talented singer/songwriters--truly one of the greats!
Thank you Thom--your music always will mean a lot to me!

Judy Gameral. Also Paulette Gershen. Janie Cribbs sings in Washington these days. My wife and I were regulars at the Loch Ness Monster back in the day.

a beautiful rendition if these words were written in England it would be seen as a piece of lyrical poetry .Because it was written in Ireland it is relegated to a folk song status This band does it beautifully kia kaha ,(maori for keep strong )

Is cuimin liom iad (Pumkinhead) ag ceoladh i Donohues (1976 sílim) agus do cheol Thom an bun-leagan rúisise den amhrán 'Those were the Days' agus anois agus mé ag léamh an obit san IT tuigim go raibh greim maith aige ar an teanga sin. Agus an ceann seo Cavan Girl tá sé togha. Gura maith agat as a thug tú dúinn agus suaimhneas síoraí ort a dhuine uasail!
