Hi Lee
I was watching your video as I'm doing the same upgrade in mine. You didn't comment about spacers needed to bolt caliper on strut. There's a massive gap resulting with this upgrade...
worked in a garage in the 70s was told never to split old used calipers apart as they are susceptible to leaking,if my gaffer a mot tester spotted this mod back then he would refuse to test the car.
The main mod, back in the day. Was to use the Calipers from Austin Princesses, as they were Four Pot Calipers.
Yeah it still is a relatively used mod the princesses 4 pots this is just a nice cheap way to get the 2.8i set up 👍
excellent video, congratulations on the initiative, through the description links I was able to order the parts directly.
Hug 👏🏼🇵🇹
Thanks and I'm glad you found the parts easy to get 😁😁
👍that's one cool way to make your brakes more stronger .. good little mod
Yes mate it's just a shame you can play around with modern brakes this much 😉
@@RetroCarsReborn i agree on that one mate
That’s cool man! Good work!
@the capri vlog no were near as upgraded as yours but iv not got the same power as you 🤣🤣
@@RetroCarsReborn 😂 “soon to be” power in mine mate! That’s a good little upgrade tho man nice set of pads and discs in there and your away!
Just got standard discs and pads for now don't know when she will be ready for mot 🤣🤣
I have 13 inch weller wheels but want and uprated brake caliper set any ideas please
Remember back in the day searching for a set of Austin Princess Calipers. Brakes were always suspect on any Capri 😰
@glen goodall yes I thought thay were OK but 2.8 spec should be better if not il have to save up for the Princess 4 pots touching 250 quid these days were as discs pads spacing kit was a total of like 70 quid 👌👌
@@RetroCarsReborn The Princess were a bit better but not world's better. I remember getting out of my 2.8i on standard brakes and driving a 1.3 Maestro and the brakes on the Maestro more powerful and instant on the pedal. Fortunately the power on the Capri instant compared to the Maestro though
Good video. I watched hoping to find the torque wrench settings for the inner and outer bolts. I have a workshop manual to suit a car with those calipers but it doesn't show those settings.
Did your kit mention the settings?
@william humber hawk no I couldn't find any at all I even looked through a load of old autodata manuals from the 80s/90s and nothing not even the 2.8i hanyes manual has the correct specs for the vented discs but if I do find some il pin the past at the top of the comments 👍information is king
@@RetroCarsReborn thank you. It's a good idea to use the Locktite on the threads.
I rebuilt the calipers of another car I have, a 1961 Humber Hawk Series II. And the workshop manual for that car has the settings for those bolts of larger size but had a notice saying that the calipers shouldn't be separated unless done by factory or specialist. But the Lucas Girling repair kit I bought for it had the flat sided "o"rings so I did it.
Looking good what size are the vented discs
@william walker there 245mm and 20mm thick
Will they behind 13 steel wheels ..please
Iv got some escort steel wheels so il find out for you 👍
@@RetroCarsReborn thanks
Do they fit?
I have ended up going 15 alloy because it wouldn't work on my steel's
I'm glad you sorted it out I totally forgot about this 😅
Have ya got part number for the kit mate
