    My guess: Either the Whipple was too big for the application, or the tune is different between the two. No reason the Whipple shouldn't be as bad as the VMP. They should overlay the dyno graphs.

    • @burkeyatm
      @burkeyatm 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The answer is likely in the efficiency islands. Look at just about any dyno chart. The Whipple won’t make the same peak torque as the TVS.
      The TVS usually falls over a bit sooner though (Cos it’s outside it’s island). The fact that the TVS will make nearly as much torque as it does horsepower whereas the Whipple won’t, is quite telling.

    nice, Looks like the rotor design of the TVS sacrifices a bit of top end to flow more efficiently down low while the whipple is geared towards making peak HP, For a dedicated drag car I would Use a whipple if you're going to be driving it at all on the street the VMP takes my vote more torque/power under the curve

    So basically the TVS's have better low rpm/peak boost from the hit and the twin screws flow more air with less drop-off at the top end. I wonder how the 2.9 pullied to the same boost would compare. But that TVS whine sounds amazing and kinda took me off guard. I still plan to get a Whipple but your video helped me reconsider the 3.4 and go with the 2.9. as I only want to make 700-800 max on my car and love the beefy look of the Whipple.

      I dont know if my only experiences with whipple cars were cases where they were just running too big a pulley and not enough boost but for supposed 750 horsepower cars none of them hit hard or made me feel like i was gonna shit my pants. I spend big money on something i wanna goggle when i hit it. TVS blowers just pull like a freight train and whipple was disappointing

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brettfrimmer6567 yea the problem is the Whipple is too big all their blowers now at like 3liters are up for the coyote and gt500. When people run them on pump gas setups on stock motor they can't run small pullies because the blower is big it'll make too much boost for pump gas this makes it lazier on the hit and it won't feel nearly as good on a street pull. The tvs just has much better power and torque on the hit and it feels and is alot quicker on a stock motor pump gas setup. Even if their power peak is similar the overall curve and the power on the hit is night and day that is why they're reacting like that in this video. Whipple only lakes 3 liters and up now because of the tvs they couldn't compete with anything smaller. If they made a blower 2.65 liters it would have a hard time competing with the gen3r that is why they don't make it lol.

      Mike Higby Shows what you know. A TVS roots is hands down more efficient than a twin screw for a given rotor size, and it’s not even close. Also, yes, a TVS 2650 makes a lot more power than Gen 2-3 Whipple 3.4.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BC08 it's funny how the twin screw guys are still hanging on to this whole "more efficient" spiel. They are NOT more efficient...a 2.65 liter blowing performing as well or even better than a 3.4 liter blower that is the definition of "more efficient" lol. It's the exact opposite and the only way the twin screw outperforms it is with larger blower with more displacement if they made a new 2.65 liter whipple or kb it would not be able to match what the TVS 2650 is capable of which is why they dont make one lol. All their new stuff is 3 liters or more.

    Simple comparison between a roots blower and a screw blower…
    One simply moves a certain amount of air per revolution, the other does similarly while simultaneously compressing the air.
    Meaning a Whipple is better for higher boost levels. It “pressurizes” the air in the blower, then pressurizes the engine. Meaning the pressure differential between the two is better.

      Exactly and whipple makes more top end and is more efficient when it comes to heat that’s why I say back to back comparisons because those TVs get real hot and lose efficiency whipple top end is we’re it’s at quarter mile race whipple all day with proper displacement 2.9 whipple vs 3.0 vmp same boost best out of 3 back to back and we would get the results whipple all day

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@utahcountypicazospage5412 tvs owns the twin screws displacement for displacement...welcome to 2020. Lol. Why do people think they get more heat soaked? Its not gonna get any more heat soaked than the twin screws unless you got a big blower barely spinning then its gonna feel lazy as hell. If youre really spinning both blowers like you should be there isnt gonna be a significant difference in heat soak ecspecially when you talk displacement for displacement. Its easy to have a 3.8 whipple against a 2.65 vmp at the same power level and say the 2.65 heat soaks more because you had to spin it up more to compete with the 3.8 not cranked up and with the 3.8 not cranked up and the vmp chanked up of course the big one barely spinning isnt gonna have as much heat soak. Its also gonna feel like dog shit compared to the vmp in overall powerband. Displacement for displacement tvs owns them point blank. The only way the twin screw matches it is a decent amount more displacement...like 2.9 vs 2.65 or 3.4 vs 2.65. If whipple made a new 2.65 it would not match the tvs that is why there isnt one. And to your original dumbass comment above if they were the same size the tvs would prob heat soak less if anything because THEY are the ones that is more efficient displacement for displacement. Get out of that 2007 way of thinking its 2020 now do some research.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@utahcountypicazospage5412 who said whipple makes more top end? Where did this "fact" come from? What a 3.8 whipple makes more top end than a 2.65 tvs? Or a 3.4 whipple? A whipple of the same size isnt gonna make more power anywhere...low middle or high because the tvs is more efficient. The only reason the big blowers can outperform them is sheer displacement advantage. Why do you think the twin screw has to be larger to compete? Why do we compare 2.9 and 3.4 whipples and the new 3.0 against the 2.3 and 2.65 tvs blowers? You are talking big blower barely spinning vs smaller blower being pushed to the edge of course the big blower barely spinning is going to heat soak less that is common sense. Your comment should read "if you got a much larger twin screw barely spinning itll heat soak less" not "whipple has less heat soak". If both blowers were the same size and on the same pulley combo i would bet money the tvs would heat soak less...especially compared to a kb blower theyre known for being hot mofos. This whole twin screw is more efficient bs dates back to 2007 and comparing them against old eaton stock blowers from 03 cobras and 07 up gt500s. This gen3r with an eaton rotor pack is a totally different animal. You need to read up man. Educate yourself.

      Southflorida Nick repeat what you just said to yourself. Slowly.

    • @southfloridanick
      @southfloridanick 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Eli Gonzalez I don’t need to, the 2.65L is less air per rotation but has a much higher maximum rotor rpm which produces more airflow. This is why hybrid roots TVS vs twin screw isn’t cut and dry. TVS hybrid roots flow MORE air than a larger displacement twin screw. The Gen 5 Whipple is the highest efficiency twin screw out there and liter per liter the flow is still behind the TVS.

    • @Kb_2v

      Southflorida Nick spinning a smaller blower 10x faster don’t make it flow better just flows more than an under spun larger blower made for 25+psi something a VMP can’t do no pulley small enough

Feels like it has like 150 to 200 more hp then the Whipple. My friends Whipple makes its power higher in the rpm. It almost feels like a Paxton were it make crazy power higher up. There both on pump 93. If I would buy a blower I would go with the vmp hands down

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      People dont understand that the overall powerband is better with the vmp that is what maked it violent on the hit and what makes it more than likely faster overall vs a similar whp twin screw. Ecspecially if it is a twin screw thats too large for the application and theyre running it turned down on pump gas
      .
      The tvs shines even more in that scenario. It isnt just about peak power its how the power is delivered and what kinda powerband you want...that is what makes the tvs ideal especially on stock motor builds (the majority). Its gonna feel a hell of alot better and likely be as fast/faster vs a similar whp setup but larger blower turning slower. Peak power only tells part of the story its about the hit and the overall powerband. Some just can't understand that lol.

I couldn't make an apple to apple comparison between the two because they were on different cars but from what I "felt' the VMP had more torque down low while the Whipple felt faster as the revs climbed. How is his VMP whining like that when I've heard so many other VMP SC's remain quiet?

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its likely because you're used to hearing them on coyotes they have much higher compression so they run alot lower boost at any given power level so the blower won't whine. On gt500 and terminators they are low compression so you run alot more boost for any given power level i.e. there will be alot more whine.

    I was planning on going with a Kenne Belle 4.0L on my ‘14 GT500. It is currently pullied with a tune and stock blower. When the time comes I may have to reconsider a different blower. Perhaps VMP may be the way to go. Have always loved the channel JD. I remember when you hit 30K. The outro is awesome too! #TeamLaura

      JD JoyrideTV Very well said! The way your car winds up and hits reminds me of how my car is currently set up. Definitely not taking away from the brutality of the VMP because it has quite a bit more attack than my ‘14 GT500’s stock blower. I don’t get out much but it would be awesome to link up with people that have those different blowers on their car so I could see how it would match up with mine!

    The VMP is a smaller blower so it's going to hit harder quicker, the 3.4 has a heavy rotor pack and is a lot bigger so you're going to have to spin it harder to get the same results..

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is true but it isn't just the size of the blower it's the design itself of the tvs. They're designed to spin harder more rpm and this makes it hit harder down low and make better torque in addition to the size itself. Whipple simply making a 2.65 liter blower would not even the playing field in this regaurd the tvs would still hit harder on the hit by design and it would make more power if the same displacement. It hangs pretty good with the newest 3 liter gen 5 whipple power making wise and on max effort setups the larger intercooler on the whipple is part of what helps it make a little one power but considering there is a .35 displacement difference and that is a newer design than the 2650 the results are fairly close and the whipple won't pull away making power until you get to a max effort setup. A pump gas setup like this they probably do similar peak numbers and the tvs feels better down low and on the hit. It's just a better blower for a street car running pump gas imo. Even if you're doing max effort e85 type setup the 2650 has proven to be plenty capable. It's potential is more than a stock engine can handle and built motor setups can make tons of power. There's no reason to get a bigger blower unless you are trying to make 1300-1500+ rwhp because the tvs can handle anything up to that point.

It's well documented that twin turbos on S550 is an excellent combo for big power, however VMP has gotten my attention and need to break the tie and go for one of these bad boys. This is a good example of how peak numbers are not nearly as telling as people think as far as how a setup is gonna perform or especially how it's gonna "feel" people spend their money too quickly without proper research. You need to have an understanding of what you want out of the car and what you want it to do well and how you want it to feel etc. The tvs blowers especially the ones from vmp are just straight badass weather you got a stock motor build or a built motor max effort e85 setup they can do whatever it is you want them to do and go well beyond 4 digit numbers at the wheels. If someone wants more power than a gen3r is capable of maybe it's time to go turbo lol. I don't see the point in these huge blowers.

    Eaton must have really made some ridiculous efficiency gains in their rotor lobe design. For years, all I've ever heard was how superior the twin screw design is over the rotor/lobe design of the eaton/roots style blower. And like they mentioned in the video, the Whipple may be superior at higher boost levels. So it's really good eaton has something for the people staying under 20 psi and running on pump gas. It's good to have a niche!

  • @owen8098
    @owen8098 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Given that a smaller supercharger will max out boost earlier creating more TQ and a harder hit, does the 2.65L hit harder than the stock supercharger? I know the latest generation has another 10 degree of twist and an extra lobe on lighter rotors , but is that enough to have peak efficiency start lower and not just end higher?

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tvs manhandles the stock blower in every way shape or form. Powerband will be similar and come on similar but there will just be a whole lot more of it (hp and torque). It will hit as hard as early as the the blower it will just do it alot more because of so much more torque and it will pull way better on the top end. It pulls like a train across the entire powerband which is what makes them so fun on the street and fast at the track.
