    "for poking holes in your belt from getting so much takeout" killed me. Now that's some good humor. Thank you for that

    I followed the stratification steps and I planted my Japanese maple seeds two weeks ago and they haven’t started germinating yet. I’m glad to know it may take a month for them to germinate.
    I’ve seen Japanese maple seeds germinate without using this process though. For example, seeds that fell in a planter I had near my Japanese maple tree germinated. I scooped the seedlings up and planted them in smaller pots.
    If they survive, I’m simply going to plant the seeds with wings and all next time.

    Is there a part 3?

    Is there a part 3 to this? I searched your channel, but didn't find it. How'd it go with the seeds? So curious, as I have just ordered a few Japanese Maple Seeds, among others...

    I just found a seed outside… now I want to try to make it into a tree… now I’m looking into what’s gonna have to happen. Step one complete! Now to wait till I can do this!

    I'm in the process of doing this, and from everything I've read and the other videos ive watched, cold stratification takes ~90 days. 4 - 6 weeks wouldn't be enough time. I can't say that from my own experience, but I'll let you know my success rate in 10 weeks. Also, in video 1 I don't believe you soaked them for 24 hours, which some say is key to that approach too. Could be wrong, but we will see.

      You might be right. Let me know how it goes for you. Unfortunately a rodent in my greenhouse ate all the seeds and so nothing I had from that batch was left to grow.

    Thanks for posting I am going to try it right now. I have had the Japanese Maple seeds in the refer since Sept- Oct so time to put in the planter box like you just did. I will let you know how it goes 🖕

      If you have rodent issues be sure to protect them in some way. Mice got to my seeds and these never germinated. I didn't know I had an issue until I did though so maybe take some precautions just in case!

    Checking for updates. But don't see any yet. ☺

      Unfortunately I have nothing to share yet. I checked the flats a couple weeks ago and ALL the seeds are just gone. There was a spot of disturbance in the soil area which makes me suspect a mouse was in my greenhouse. I'm going to try these again as soon as I have more seeds to sow.

      It works. I've done it before with the same method. That is the challenge with producing content like this, sometimes things don't work out.

      @@karinap7875 Hi Karina.. did it work for you? @Growing/@Karina - I collected more than 200 japanese maple seeds in November in Toronto. The seeds are dry and in a paper envelope.. Planning to put them in a couple of plastic bags with soil and place them in the refrigerator as per the video. I am interested to see what is the impact of outdoor temperature during the second step of the process? If i place them in the fridge beginning of January and take them out say mid of February to place them outside in containers.. so most probably temperature would fluctuate in Toronto around in March/April. So keeping my fingers crossed :)

    I know this is old but, if the seeds are ready to harvest around the second week of October, when do you start the stratification process? Do you let the seeds sit dry before Stratifying them and wait until February to start the stratification? OR... start the stratifying after they have been harvested, then plant them about 4-6 weeks later, and let them start during the rest of the winter months?

    • @Growingthehomegarden
      @Growingthehomegarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Start stratification as soon as you can. Extra cold time won't hurt and may help improve germination. You could do it as soon as the seeds are collected.
