Awesome stuff. I have some 8/4 and 10/4 sawn hickory and white oak I need to make some 25” handles from. This was great motivation seeing all the handles hanging around behind you.
Thanks! If you are going to shape those handles by hand, you might want to watch my more recent speed run where I do a voiceover explaining my strategy as I carve. Have fun!
I feel like I can't watch this video because I didn't buy any tickets....to the gun show! You got arms like Thanos 😅. Well done on the handle, you did something in 15 minutes that would take me 2 days😮
This is a man that knows how to use his tools! This is really inspiring me to get my old drawknife razor sharp. I’ve been using a Shinto rasp mainly for a lot of my rough shaping but wow this is record time!
Thanks! I do love a Shinto, but there is not match for a well tuned drawknife to shape an amenable piece of wood. Be sure to check out my videos about drawknife sharpening if you haven't already.
@@bastionheadwoodworks love your vids on drawknife sharpening! Would also really like to see a video in the same style for keeping your spokeshave sharp and well tuned!
Thanks! I found the red rubber in a railyard dumpster. I don't know what exact kind of rubber it is, but I have been told it is some kind of very expensive industrial gasketing. I attached it with 1.5" screws. A more affordable and widely available material I think would work pretty well is the "ULTRA STICKY" Evolve yoga mat made by Gaiam. This particular yoga mat is fairly durable and could be cut easily and attached with 1/2" staples.
Anybody who has a woman who will record their TH-cam videos earns a like from me. Very jealous of the woodshop sir. About to begin making my first shave horse.
The drawknife I'm using is one of my own design. I made it to work with the bevel facing down for efficient carving of contours. The cutting edge is about six or seven inches wide. I do sell handles in limited quantity, most are about two dollars per inch of length, plus shipping.
@@bastionheadwoodworks thank you! I’ve been looking at old draw knives & debating on what size to get. It definitely helps to see one in use vs pictures of just the tool. And will definitely keep you in mind for a handle! Ps: if you like to make trades, I do leatherwork.

Great to see classic skills being used 👍🏻
Great job, where did you get the red rubber to line your shave horse and how did you attach it ? New subscriber

Thanks! My wife and I work as a team most of the time. Maybe I'll make a video of her wrangling logs into the truck. She's a tough cookie!
awesome work man!
It became a wood of art 👏👏
Well done!
Thank you! It's always a fun exercise, even if the handle doesn't turn out wit the exact shape I hope for.
Do you sell handles? Also, what size draw knife are you using?

WOW!
I think ash wood looks the best
Ash is my favorite!
That's some excellent demonstration, Sir. What type of spokeshave is this? There's quite a few different ones to choose from. Thanks!
Thanks! My favorite spokeshave is the Stanley 64.
You make it look easy man.
Thanks!
