The stunt where Cushing pushes the professor over the bannister is my favourite stunt ever put to film. It's just amazing.

Joe Dante was right when he said that kids who saw it would never forget it. Fifty-nine years ago I saw it at the theater. When you walked into the theater there were curtains at the rear. When the monster made its first appearance I got out of my seat, hurried back to the curtains, and watched most of the rest of the movie peeking through those curtains. And I remember it like it was yesterday.

Would you say this film was one of the first new “scary movies” of all-time ?

This is one of my favorite films from the Hammer series. Along with Horror of Dracula and the Mummy.

I think my top 3 are evil of Frankenstein, curse of the werewolf and night creatures. BUT throw in horror of Dracula and also night creatures

Does anyone else think that Murnau's Nosferatu influenced Fisher for this movie? Look at the way the Monster is dressed, in a coat very similar to Count Orlok's, and also the way he walks, with his arms very close to his body. Also, the use of characters' shadows projected on the wall near the climax.
Interesting, because when Fisher got to make his Dracula, no noticeable Nosferatu influence in the Count's portrayal is present

This was more of an Acting Tour De Force by Peter Cushing in the Role of Doctor Frankenstein. The Creature(Who was the Focus of the Universal Films, and Who's here played by Christopher Lee) is just a Supporting Character, Thought he does have One Memorable Scene where he's Shot in the Eye.

My brother and I saw this movie at the Plaza theater in Atlanta Georgia when it first came out along with the second feature X the unknown. Both movies were extremely gripping and disturbing to us. But we loved them. (I'm 76 now. Back then I was about 10 years old.)

Christopher lee looked like a zombie and walked like one in this film. Very scary. He could have easily played a zombie in The Walking Dead films or Night of the Living Dead. Personally I thought his version of the creature, was better than Karloff. I was dissapointed they had his character destroyed in acid, DARN!

This was the first time little Lyle ever saw HAZEL COURT. Didn't know what hit him. And just watched The Man Who Could Cheat Death on Hulu. Thanks Hulu!

Why doesn't the reviewer know how to pronounce Peter Cushing's name ? Not much of a film fan I guess.

A shame the Frankenstein monster make-up was such a sloppy, unimaginative mess, since the rest of the film is quite effective.

In their defense they couldn't use the Frankenstein Makeup from the Universal Films because it was Copyrighted.

In the book among the many names Victor gives his creation including Fiend, Abortion, and Insect, Not sure where that came from. My favorite put down he used is A Filthy Mess.
