To the people who compare Near and L: 1) Light was there all the times when L was investigating, which wasn't the case with Near. While working with L, he could see each and every move of L and would tell what L was thinking. Even then, he was outwitted by L many times. If it wasn't for that Misa loving shinigami Rem, L would have caught kira even if it would cause him dying. He was so close. Plus, Near was basically spoon-fed with all the information that he got from Aizawa, mello etc. Had L got these info, kira was done already! And remeber the scene when Light regained his memories of death note. Then L asked Rem:- Whether or not a person can be killed by a small clipping from the death note... To which Rem replied that she didn't know. And even then.... L suddenly suspected Light again and remembered the scene in the starting of investigation-that "I'll take a chip and eat it!" scene... L thought it wasn't impossible to kill under those circumstances... 2) don't forget the important point... *WE GOT TO KNOW REAL NAME OF NEAR BUT DID WE KNOW THAT OF L?*
Well the thing is I think that's what got L killed, the first battle between L and Light was a battle of ego and I am pretty sure emotion was what got him killed. L, even tho he was mostly emotionless, did actually show emotion when that task force agent died..I don't remember his name..Ukita? Well anyway, you can clearly see that L is startled, Near on the other hand, is absolutely emotionless, he said in the final speech as well that between Light and L it was a battle of Ego while Near just didn't care about who died, he just wanted to get the job done, doesn't matter how, btw I say all this but the Ego part is what makes the first battle so interesting in the first place, and even tho I absolutely love Light and L, I find Near interesting because the author himself said that Near is smarter then both L and Light, he just wasn't interested in most cases and he was interested in the Kira case because he had a personal grudge. So his whole refusal to do things based on what his ego is what makes him, for me at least really interesting
Some small interesting facts they showed: 1) L sits with both leg folded but near mostly sits only with 1 leg folded ; which showed that L's half or ¼ intelligence is in near. 2) L, mello and near : L, M and N Their death in perfect alphabetical order; first L died, then mello and near was almost dead. Just that his followers messed up.
I watched that one video about how piano represents L and the guitar represents Light. I love this song now but every time I listen to it I just cry because it reminds me of L's death. I still can't get over it.
L was the more inteligent one. Light had a great advantage the whole time. He had something (Death Note) unknown to humanity yet L still managed to give him A LOT of trouble. L didn't really know about Death Note, Death Note's rules, shinigami or the way Light kills people. At the time when he had learned how everything looks like it was already too late for him. If you're playing in a game of which the rules you don't know with an opponent that does- you're destined to lose. Near and Mello with everything L discovered just finished his job.
This reasoning is not right. It doesn't make sense to say "Light had the death note, without that he couldn't have done anything", because that's what the plot is based on. It is like saying "the thief could not have carried out the robbery without his gun", but the gun is precisely the means by which he does the robbery.
