It's a year later since I was last here and I'm still loving my Sony FDR-AX100. Thanks again for the great videos you posted about it. They've been very helpful.

Hello Mr. Chapman. I am a retired TV/Film producer/director/cameraman from Los Angeles Ca. (22 yrs.) Both of your reviews and instructions on the AX100 was the best I ever seen on TH-cam, or anywhere. You tackled your subject matter like a big dollar product infomercial or a classic scene from a Hwd documentary.. I was leaning toward the JVC GY HM170 because I shot a lot with JVC cameras, but after watching your presentation, I am sold on the AX100. This camera will work well for my needs. So thanks again for a superb production.Randell Briggs

I like the somewhat random background in the presentation. It demonstrates how substance matters - I was only aware of it when I viewed this review a third time! A really excellent teacher.

Hello Mr. Chapman, thanks a lot for your videos about the Sony AX100. A few month ago I bought the camera because of your reviews and I'm really satisfied with that superb picture-quality. But let me tell you about your way to describe the features: absolute excellent! Very easy to follow with very high quality informations in detail. Tanks again and best regards from Bonn, Germany ;-)

    Hello;
    Thanks for the professional review.
I am already using the Sony AX100 camcorder to shoot my videos. It is an amazing camera, it blur the line between professional and consumer markets. For the first time ever to have 4K camcorder with 1" image sensor, open new opportunities for users to shoot amazing 4K videos and to have the ability to blur the background and to achieve the magic bokeh.
I can not tell you how much i am using the ND Filters it is killer and i believe every video camera should include ND Filters, as ND filters block and reduce the amount of light hitting the image sensor and allow the cameraman to use wide open aperture in bright sunny day !
    Thank.

After watching this/other reviews I went out and bought the Sony FDR AX100 (Now Discontinued). I'm very impressed with the performance of this camera so far. I'm still working on the setting to reduce noise that occurs in specific situations such as filming water with a lot of bright light. If you watch "Winter" 4K on my profile you'll notice this noise in several shoots. I still give this camera a solid B+ for video quality verses cost factor. Sony announced at CES they're releasing the little brother to this camera so I look forward to you posting a review on the FDR-AX33.

iEdit Projects will be getting my AX(P)33 yes UK model with a projector on the 18th March when they launch here, What attracted me to this particular model opposed to the AX100 is the BOSS as i do a lot of underwater makro video work, been using the old HC9 for many years with fantastic results in a Gates housing yet even still its so hard to get a perfectly still video even with a mild current, so thats one reason why i have not uprated to any other camcorder as of yet , hopfully working with the AX33 i wont have to anchor myself down and pin my arms to something ridged,, very excited just not sure who is going to make the first housing,, Gates have no intention as they just released the housing for the AX100

I bought my Sony FDR-AX100 about 2 weeks ago. Just got a Bluetooth receiver/transmitter today so I can use my Bluetooth headphones with it. Got it all set up and started recording when I noticed something awful. There is almost an entire second of lag time between the scene and what happens on the camcorder. And it has nothing to do with the Bluetooth. Watching the LCD screen shows just how far behind it is. This was my first time recording something other than outside nature scenes, so when the person talked it was very distracting to hear a one-second delay in the headphones and see it on the screen. I watched a lot of TH-cam videos before I bought it and never saw anything about it mentioned one time. So I'm trying to get the word out there. Oh, and you can't use an external monitor while recording 4K.

Hi Alister, really enjoyed your review and tips videos. Nice to see examples shot locally too... Amazed at how good the castle looked in this video. I am however more interested in the storm footage and hope you can be persuaded to upload more from the AX100 as this is one of the things that I wish to use either with this camera or the CX900.. Depends on the boss and what she lets me buy...

Great video and review Allister, thank you so much. I currently have this camera, and you did it justice in your review. I was considering upgrading to Sony’s newer FXW-Z90. Are you aware, just at a glance what features that camera gives that are not available in this one? Obviously the handle with the XLR inputs (2 of them) and the zoom button is one of them, but any others that come to mind? Thanks again. I believe the focus system is much improved too? Is it in your opinion, worth the upgrade?Love your videos!!

Why would sony use XAVC-S instead of just MP4? You can't even burn those to blu-ray and even if you could that isn't what people want to do with their home movies most of the time. At least give both options.

Thank you for the excellent review. I'm not sure if you have shot with the Sony PXW-X70. If you have, are the two similar in image quality even though the X70 would cost about $1000 more with the 4K option? Interested in both 4K and HD results. Thank you.

    Hi Alistair,
I bought the AX100 recently. I have just started using it with a small 7" Apurture video monitor. The set up is :- a crane with gimble and AX100 connected at one end. An HDMI cable running down 14' to the monitor at the other end. The problem I am getting, is a sound feedback squeal. I cannot control the volume on the Apurture monitor. I can only find a volume control on playback mode on the AX100. I need some volume on the recording to match sound up from a mixing desk at a live concert. Would I be best using a separate mic with some volume control via unit like 'juiced link' sort of unit to choke the volume down to stop the feedback?

I recently tried to record the sound but the mic cut out at the report of the gun and no sound was recorded. Is this because the mic has been overloaded? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi thank you for the clips you posted , i watched most of them. I have a fdr ax 100 with 3.0 firmware update, i am looking into a cinema like settings. I have 24fps, 48 shutter speed and aperture manual while the gain i try to keep it on 12db as you advised. is there any other suggestion you can give me: color , shooting in 4k and rendering in hd? better to use hd with 60 fps and recode to 24? i did experiment also with small color temperatures which i believe should vary depends on light quality outside, i do use also once ina while the zebra indicator and i have it set at 80%. thanks much again for what you are presenting on your channel i learned from you

are there any Lens that you know you can get for this camera to give it a wider point of view? I feel in smaller rooms more is needed? I love this camera but i want to find a lens that doesn't give me an picture quality loss or black corners on my image. Is there anywhere I should be looking for such a type of lens?? it says its a 67mm lens so do I just have to get that size lens and it will be ok?
