Adri, how many sugar gliders do you own so far? Please let me know soon. Thank you.

I have to agree with everything you said! They are not a pet for 99% of the population in my opinion. They are expensive to get, expensive to get all the necessary supplies and to house properly, expensive to feed properly and time consuming. They need to be kept in at least pairs and generally would prefer to have nothing to do with you unless you have snacks. You have to put in so much time to bond with them and it can be easy to lose them if they get out. And they are very fragile animals, where often they seem fine and then die 12 hours later- and you often have no idea why. I have 11 I have rescued from multiple home who didn’t have time, or got bored or just found them too much work or money and I love them but I also have 10 other animals so I don’t have a super bond with any of them. A few will climb on me but most will just come up to me and take treats from my hands. I am hoping to build a large screened in play area in my basement where they will have lots of toys and fleece ropes and such that I can just sit in and they can play and glide and crawl all over me. I only have a tiny tent right now and it doesn’t work very well.

Yup - and I see a lot of people that end up getting overwhelmed by colonies of them without realizing how fast they multiply!

I have to agree to disagree. We adopted two males. Feeding is very inexpensive especially if you make your own diet. Ans the most costly has been the cage. As far as boding it’s going to be harder for you per they are rescues

I know this was a year ago but how are you liking the critter nation cage ? (So far it’s the go to cage for gliders )
We have an okay cage right now but want the best for them

As an Australian it makes me so incredibly sad to see our beautiful wildlife kept in captivity, it’s not even legal for the average person here to own them some states require a licence and most don’t allow it at all.
I’m glad you are giving them the best life you can though.

Nooooo, please don't recommend rats for children. I've rescued way too many rats from situations of neglect and malnutrition due to being cared for by kids. Parents should take full responsibility for any pet in my opinion.
I hate to see sugar gliders as pets too, hence you've got rescues.
