  • TV in the US and the UK is so different! But what exactly makes British TV so British, and what makes American TV so American? Let's dive in and chat specifics!
    Jay Foreman: / jayforeman51
    Thank you so much for watching! Hope you enjoyed it!
    If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)

      There is one thing that's not quite right. The TV licence actually is for TV. You can legally access BBC radio and the website without a TV licence. You need a TV licence for the TV and iPlayer. Obviously the TV licence funds both but what you're actually paying for the right to use is the TV and iPlayer

And the drug company has to pay for those extra pages, they don't get a flat rate like your actual ad is one page but since you have to have 3 pages of fine print we'll just throw that in. From what I can tell all sides of the political divide tend to not be keen on the BBC, which to me is a strong indication that it's doing something right. It has its problems, not exactly delighted about the coverage it gives to the likes of Steve Bannon or Tommy Robinson but most institutions have their issues. It doesn't mean we should dismantle the whole thing.

I do know several people who do have their problems though and it really does upset me seeing what they're going through. To equate my very mild defence of the BBC with such issues seems a bit below the belt. Not to me, I can take it, but trivialising mental illness is something I personally don't engage in. Each to their own of course, your right to free speech is incredibly important. Luckily we have an institution such as the BBC through which we can express these views.

Have you ever listened to Feedback on Radio 4 on a Friday afternoon? Some of the strongest criticism of the BBC you're ever likely to hear right there on the BBC. The BBC news channel is consistently runs segments on problems with the corporation. I agree it has its issues, as do all major institutions, but the concept and I believe intent of the BBC and the vast majority of its employees like positive. Criticisms can only help them improve

      Quite liked Matt Smith, in fact he's borderline my favorite Dr, but agreed, it all went west after that. The new series could work, but the PC and shear number of companions is ruining it.

    • @MayMay-jy9mr
      @MayMay-jy9mr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@richardhammer187 I thought matt smith was a great doctor in his own right - great acting and lots of depth, but the writing that came with him just changed the whole vibe of the show for me so it just didn't feel like doctor who any more. I also hated how once david tenant left they just ended all reference to previous companions etc. (like donna/rose/martha/jack just never existed). I think if there had been more continuity like there always had been before It would've been a lot better. Totally agree in regards to the new series

      True, but US TV tends to be organised in such a way that you need a cable subscription to get any channels worth having. The idea of dozens of subscription-free channels via a simple aerial, or even more on Freesat satellite, is rather alien to the American system.

    They did try to translate Doctor Who to American with a made for TV movie in 1996. It was intended as a backdoor pilot for an American produced Doctor Who (though it was a continuation of the original series, not a reboot). It did well in the UK but had low ratings in the US and so the series wasn't commissioned.

      The main reason why there won't be an American adaption of Dr who is because the BBC don't own all the rights.
      They own the Dr and tardis etc but not the main antagonists.

    In Germany public channels usually blur any brands shown, but sometimes they only blur the product that someone is holding and you can see the rest of the shelf or they blur it so poorly that it’s not very hard to see what it actually is (like nutella, etc.) 😂😂

Emlyn Hughes, Ian Botham, Bill Beaumont, Brendan Foster, Willie Carson, Ally McCoist, Phil Tufnell and Matt Dawson were the long term team captains.
