There is nothing like the feeling at the end of the day when everything is done and you can enjoy the fruits of your labor. Your homestead is looking real good.
Jason Your speaking too the choir there @ the end.. I just sit on my Land in different places and just watch and listen to what Mother Nature has to offer me.. I Live in NE Kansas and we have the Most beautiful Sunrises and sunsets... The way She blends the pinks and blues some days is damn amazing..
It just bring tears to my eyes to see you and Lorraine so happy. These classes went so well but you are a great teacher. Love this second class video. Thank you for making this older women smile. My grandpa was a butcher who owned his own grocery store until the big corporation pushed him out so I watched so much as a child with grandpa. Good memories. God bless
I found the comment about not having chicken on harvest day amusing. When I wis little, the first sign of a chicken dinner was Granny with a chicken dangling from one hand, an axe in her other, headed for the stump.
1950s I was egg gathering girl but when it came to butcher day every detail was performed by each of us. Two sisters makes 3 4-H girls, grandmother and mother 100 chickens. Wood block, ax, boiling water, hand plucking feathers, table and knives. They went into freezers with gizzard, heart and liver. When cooking The wishbone was carved from the breast, the thighs and legs were disjointed so the family of 6 each had a nice serving.
Great workshop video, Jason. It was good to see Sang. He said he wanted to learn how to teach a class so he could have workshops in Indiana. So now you not only teach homesteaders, now you also teach teachers. That is so great. Thanks for sharing and Lorraine your dinner looked delicious. Y'all have a Blessed day.
Amen. Days so long they run together. So tired you don’t think you can go on, yet you sit back and look at it all and it’s living a dream. Farming is so rewarding. We were created to live this way. 👍👍👍
Can I just say that you land has improved ten folds since you moved in. The grounds look so green and not wild and unkept. All your hard work and that of your animals has made a difference.😊
Man...the way this video ended...I'm just sitting here saying, "Why am I in the house? I'm getting outside before the sun goes down!" I had a busy day in the kitchen, baking and making and canning peach pie filling...being tired from productivity is the best feeling!
Your video is so relaxing to watch. They end when you said “This is it” made me smile really big, not to many people can be satisfied with simple needs and pleasure. I really appreciate the simple things in life, like a foggy morning and a beautiful sunset! May God continue to Bless your family. Thank for sharing. 😊
I love having those "this is it" moments ..whether you're sweaty af, drenched in rain, full of mud or just exhausted it happens all the time and it brings so much meaning to the road youve chosen PLEASE get Zeke glasses !!🤣
I enjoy your videos. my grandfather raised meat chickens and sold them on Fridays. He had turkeys and pheasants too. they did not have a large place but had a well right off the back porch, initially had no running water, and had an outhouse. That did change over time. My grandmother was an awesome gardener.. The community they were in all shared with each other. If someone had too many peas to shell they shared. They are no longer on this earth but the community in that area still share their bountiful harvest with their family and friends.
My favorite thing about you guys is this... I always see wonder on your faces and you don't shirk at the struggles of homesteading. You're innovative and all of you work so hard and how nice to have your in-laws in the mix with you!! You are such a blessing to watch as you plug along at what some folks say is just a drag kind of life and too hard to do. I love how you've embraced the life! Your homestead shows it with the improvements as the years have passed by. Such a lovely place! Thanks for sharing all you do! God Bless!
Harvesting poultry and game birds is "see one, do one, teach one", but you really do need to see the first one in order to save yourself time & effort. I do not remember when I learned to butcher because I was born into it - but I've seen people do it for the first time and I can see that things I took for granted are the same things each person gets wrong the first time. You do such a service. I'd love to see the whole world know how to raise all their own food. To the fellow that said his family was surprised that with a college education, he was going into farming.....You can have a college education AND live off the land. I have several degrees in Ag & Horticulture and certifications in bees and other related fields - it all helps and you can use your education to make the $$ you need for taxes and groceries that you can't grow yourself. I taught organic gardening, wrote syndicated Newspaper columns and magazine articles and worked for the country as a Master Gardener. If you don't want all the bells & whistles that tech has to offer - you can do it. I congratulate you on your industriousness!!
That early morning cool, quiet time is like no other time. Not even after sunset because it's usually still hot. With the day ahead, anything is possible ❤ Lol, your piggie at the very beginning, straight on. Looks like an alien 😂
We don't process enough chickens to get a plucker..I'm 57, still using my hands. IF I could get enough people in my tiny rural town (292) to raise their own, I could rent it out.
Thank you for your concluding comments Jason. So timely and encouraging. I don't have a homestead but it's been a struggle getting good to survive between the weather and the bugs. Out of numerous sowings, battling slugs, cucumber beetles, hand watering saved rain water to save money I'm looking forward to the fall. But God is so good. We're seeing results and learning so much. It's definitely an adventure. Hang in there my friend. Hmmm, insta pot? Sounds like a good idea. 👍❤️
I wanted to let you know your videos on butchering chickens. Gave me the confidence that we could do it. I appreciate the humane treatment and care you take in your birds and your bitching process.
There are so many ways that your videos...and others like them....are a blessing. The folks who get true hands on experience...the folks who take your online class....and to old gals like my 87y-o sister and l who watch every video and comment via email...she's in CA, l'm in AR. Anyway, your sweet family, and the homey things you take pleasure in doing are a welcome relief from the rattle and bang of today's news. Thanks, guys....💝
Jason and Lorane love you guys so natural. Your certainly great with people who obviously feel relaxed and at home at your workshops. Everyone learning together and teaching others. Jason loved your ending on this video a days end feeling grateful about life.
Loved this video. Your morning was very beautiful and so was the evening and everything in between. ❤ I’m continuing to dream of the day I can have my own piece of land to grow food. Have a blessed day 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️👩🏻🌾
So happy you found your "This is it!"...yesterday we had that moment...my husband and I were watching an old movie..."Lost Horizon" they came upon the city of Shangri la...I turned to my husband and said the movie was a microcosm of all the different personalities and flaws in human society...they are searching and even though they found a lovely new way of life...not all could understand. I said that is what we have...not rich, nor poor...just right. We have a small homested...not quite like yours, but we grow food and our land provides a service to many people. We are in our 70's...your channel let's me have a glimpse of our future young people...your doing just fine....love your channel!
Just awesome! You are doing a great job. This is what our community needs. The Kuni Kuni piglets are so cute, love them. I hope your project with the 3 poles goes good for you. It is already starting to cool off here and I'm in the southwest, do fall is coming. God bless you.
Jason, I really appreciate your channel and content. Would it be possible in future vlogs to increase the video lengths to 30 mins? OBTW, *BIG UP's* to "Randy" and the rest of your family.
PSL in the house!! Thats awesome! We are also from PSL. Looking for land in North FL to continue our homesteading journey...been suburban homesteaders for several years. So cool to see someone from our area.
Zeke talking to you is so cool. Love that pig. Congrats on this years last workshop.could you think about doing another of those videos where you just walk around the farm and listen to the sounds. Turkeys early on a misty appalatian morning is magic.
Looking forward to ya'll trying sheep or getting a couple of steers again. Raising a couple of steers on the haves with a fellow homesteader or selling halves / quarters might be a way to diversify $$ making opportunities.
I’m not much of a morning person, but must admit there’s nothing like rural Carolina in the morning. So peaceful and other worldly. ❤( we lived in NC for over 10 years)
You'll Love the heritage... Ours lay thru August.. Save and incubate some eggs for your next generation :) Not relying on others for your next crop.. We never had luck with the broad breasted.. they always broke legs and sick before we could process ..
Jason and Lorraine it's called contentment and I think you found the formula! Not to mention food security for your family! Next step is to put up those greenhouse / hoop houses so you can expand your growing season to all yeat round!
Love your journey. It hasn't been long on the new property, yet you seem to be at home. Lorraine seems to still be finding her way. She needs her garden back. Another season or 2. I keep waiting for Lorraine's garden update. Hopefully soon. 💚🌞

Absolute retirement goals. I've been planning for the past 5 years to retire at 55 (45 years old now). I work as a bus mechanic for New York City transit. My wife and I are looking to get the HECK outta NYC. Maybe the South, maybe out west, but country. No less than 4 acres of MY LAND. Love your channel. Thank you for the inspiration❤
You both have advanced your homestead so much. Your experience is really showing, I'm so happy all your effort is being rewarded. Passing on your talents is so good for the life style. Keep up that excellent, generous contribution you share with all. Blessings
I ❤ watching your videos! When STL post a new video, I get so excited. I like how your family works so hard but not over do it. It doesn’t looks so chaotic or unorganized (we’ll at least your vlog doesn’t look like it). Your farm has come a long way, with the help of your tiny family. Y’all cleaned it up nicely. Keep up the good work 😊
I notice you are puting out more content and I for one am loving it ! Thanks
Lorraine ever think about making a cookbook? All her recipes look delicious.
That's a great idea!
Absolutely 👍
💚 Hurray! You're living the Life! 💚
I'm so happy that y'all decided to live the homestead life, and bringing us along for the journey. Y'all are awesome and such a blessing.👍💛🙏
Thanks so much

Elvira is so funny! Babies do not get her extra food from the house!!🤣🤣. Mama’s love only goes so far…!
I found the comment about not having chicken on harvest day amusing.
When I wis little, the first sign of a chicken dinner was Granny with a chicken dangling from one hand, an axe in her other, headed for the stump.
It's crazy how much better your land looks sense you started on it. Enjoy it
All I see is how happy and healthy you lovely people are since you moved to this homestead. Bless you and keep the videos coming!!👍 🐓🐔🐷🐷
Thanks for that moment of vision at the end!

Great finish!!! Quality video. Your place is looking so much better this year, much more lush and green. This life is good for the whole family.
Awesomeness. You can see why God made seasons. You live it.
Today we picked up 160lbs. of chicken. Yes it costs a few pennies, but we’re glad to pay for quality meat. Everybody needs to make a living. 💙
Your land is a lot greener now. It is looking good. more videos PLEASE.
You may want to take note (and possibly soil test) of the areas that the turkeys were when they got sick just in case it’s something toxic.
Good idea. I never thought of that.
This is it. That says so much ... a perfect contentment. Love your videos.
Life is good Jason, 🙏 for your family.
Zeke is the man!
Life IS good. You have your own slice of Heaven. 💞
I wish I could go to one!

Your piggy talking to you is so pitiful and cute!

you really found it didn't you. Thanks for sharing your happiness with us.
i wonder if you could move the baby turkey at night , would not be as scared . Another great video thanks
Dinner looks really good Loraine. You are right Jason. Sit back after a day of job well done and watch the sunset.
Those heritage turkeys will fly into the trees so keep them in the tractor would be my advice.
