I saw this video for the first time in a Facebook post last week. It blows my mind. There is such genius here and so many nice touches. Seeing legendary artists like George Strait and Alabama, newer artists, and including special touches like including Randy Travis and having Dolly Parton finish the video and mind blowing. I ramble but really there are no words to adequately describe the respect and love for country music shown in this video. To all who worked on the video I salute you and thank you. You've given us a legendary piece of art
Because it's like 40 years of country in 4 minutes. Hell they even squeeze Randy Travis in, even if he can't sing its the fact they didn't forget about him
Not happening. They were luck to get this done, and be as good as it is. Artists is this video, don't have enough time to do an album, plus Charley Pride has passed away.
I can't imagine what the royalty payments were to each artist in this video. The idea of them making an entire album together... Wow... That would be a LOT of money...
This is hands down THE BEST COUNTRY MUSIC VIDEO OF ALL TIME, so many big names performing three iconic classics, it seriously doesn't get any better than that. Now if only Hank Jr. and Loretta Lynn could've joined in.
I tried watching the video over and over, thinking I missed his vocals somewhere. I didn't find it. Shame we didn't get to hear him sing. He and Garth Brooks are the only 2 missing that would have made this complete for me.
Ill be honest,I'm not a fan of the modern day country music. But when they sang that song, both classic and modern singers,it brought me to tears for how pretty it was. Thank u CMA Amazing job
I can't express just how much I love this video. 1) Born in Korea, came to this beautiful country in 1975 and fell in love immediately with country singers like Ronnie Milsap, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rodgers, Loretta Lynn, Charlie Pride, and Charlie Daniels 2) A fellow countryman just like myself born in Korea but grew up in the south was the director of the video, Joseph Kahn. This year's winner of the Grammy for the Best Video of the Year. Happy 50th Anniversary to the CMAs.
I was adopted at 5 months old from South Korea and I am forever grateful to have arrived in the Land of the free and home of the brave. Grew up in rural Ohio, started working at 15 cutting down trees, been doing it since, and fell in love with country music of today and then. God bless.
0:51 mark, it is so sad we don't actually get to Hear Randy Travis sing, I definately understand why (stroke and all) but it was beautiful having him there because in my Eyes, he is and always will be one of the greats in country!!! One of my favorites!
@James Willis I agree, but also miss the older folks. My fondest memories are listening to the real country legends with my grandfather some 20 years ago or more.
country roads holds a special place in my heart...when I was 11 helping my dad in the barn (pre-ipod, pre-youtube era) there was this beat up stereo no one turned on. one day I decide to then it on and first song I heard was country road...and I was hooked on country forever :)
it was a favorite of mine growing up, my daddy played drums in a country band, and we used to have a back yard party every year, the whole neighborhood would come, and many times us kids would get on stage and sing that and many other songs, it was the best time of my life.
This just makes me cry, for all the talent, all the music lost to time. So many greats represented here, Dolly, Trisha, Garth, Willy, Ronny, George, Reba, so many lost, Randy, Patsy, and Loretta. Keep the music alive. Thank you, thank you.
@Soupy Anderson same here. This is one of the most beautiful pieces of art I’ve ever seen. Reba is what gets me. Every time. She helped me through a pretty crummy childhood. I owe her a lot.
I absolutely love that they included Randy Travis. Often when a famous person can no longer do what made them popular, it seems like everyone forgets them. It was beautiful to see that he is still loved and respected by the country music family.
This is why I was born a country music fan and raised on country music. This is country music and what country music is all about. Thank you to country music making it my soundtrack of my life. I hope all these artists perform this on the CMA's this year.
No drake, perry, beiber, kanye, swift, ......THIS IS REAL MUSIC !!!....if only this kind of music returns to the radio, maybe i will turn it on once again....
I rarely comment on youtube, but seriously if you can't understand that there a many music genres then just don't be around music at all. Good music is good music. The artists in this video would probably like Drake, Perry, Bieber, Kanye and Swift. Maybe even work with them. That is how people who love music function, they don't talk about real music. They find music in things people who are limited in their thought don't.
Emma Bergsten Miss Emaa Bergsten - You and the legendary singers in this video are free to listen to any kind of music you like and appreciate the millennial artists for their lack of vocal talents (according to me). Its your (and their) opinion and choice. I know there are different genres of music. This was real country music’s last stand. Real instruments. Real music. I grew up around 1990’s country music, which was that odd period between classic country and country rock. But there were some great artists then, Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson being some of my favorites. But now, all the hits are super electronic and are barely distinguishable from pop hits. It’s sad :/
I was born in 08, but I agree, nowadays there is no feeling to these songs. There is no story line. Garth has a story to every song, except for dive bar.
You need to give Cody Jinks, Whiskey Meyers, Blackberry Smoke, Uncle Lucius a listen. There's still real country out there, you just have to look a little harder.
TheBucklessYooper Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve been looking all over for stuff to listen to, but I’m talking about the mainstream hits, not the awesome stuff that’s out there, but would never make the airwaves

As a West Virginian and life long country fan this brought tears to my eyes. I know people are asking where is Garth, Kenny, Toby. To those folks I say it doesn't matter when you have the King, Alabama, Willie, Dolly, Charlie, Ronnie, Vince, Alan aka REAL legends. I love the aforementioned but recognize greatness when it is in front of you.

Randy Travis @ 0:51. Doctors gave him a one to two percent chance of survival because of his stroke in 2013. He's not 100% by any means ...but what a fighter. Glad they inducted him into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year
John Dorian that's not true at all I'm poor doctor told me I'd be dead at 8 at 12 at 18 and I'm 26 battling cf every step of the way and it hasn't taken me yet and I don't plain on letting it take me at all
Did anyone get emotional watching this? I did! A buddy of mine said he about wrecked his truck when he heard it on the radio! Lol. This is BEAUTIFUL!!!
I burst into tears every time it gets to Randy Travis!! Such a powerfully emotional video - especially to those of us who have been around long enough to know all these singers since our childhood thru today
That's like saying R & B is such a black person only club. Silly. If the music speaks to your heart then it's your club!! Charlie Pride, Darius Rucker, Cowboy Troy, I know it's not a lot... but I love them and two of them are in this video!!
alex lee and yet, here you are. There are over 80 million videos on TH-cam. There are videos for every music genre ever. You can even listen to the oldest known melody on this site, which is 3400 years old, and was discovered on a clay tablet. And yet, here you are.. on the video of a genre you don't even like, trying to start shit with random people who do like it... just because you don't. Tell me, what is wrong with this picture? I want you to take just 1 second to reflect on yourself and your life. Think about it really hard. Of all the things you could be doing, why did you decide to do this? It clearly says "country" in the title of the video. You didn't end up here by mistake or a trick, you came here on purpose. You knew exactly what you were clicking on, and did it anyways. Why did you go out of your way just to force your inner-negativity on someone else? What does that decision say about who you are? It is certainly not the actions of someone who is satisfied in life. Someone made you feel bad, so you feel obligated to attack things that other people enjoy.
That's what I love about country singers they respect each other no matter what political views they have they respect one another and they love one another they are the embodiment what America is about friendship the media is always trying to wrap their head around about why country singers will not openly talk about politics the real reason why they do not because of politics because they respect each other enough and love each other just as much god be every one in this video
I dont listen to Country music as much as i should. But from the first time I heard it over 50 years ago Ive loved it. Especially Classic Country. This is a great video. I get choked up thinking about all those years , all those songs and all those artists from yesterday. So much amazing music and talent. Thank God for Country music!!
This is awesome and very well put together! Watched it over a dozen times now. Sure do miss REAL, pure, country music. Glad we can stream these days. This gives me reason to watch the CMAs again for the first time in a loooong time. Let's get the "artists of then" back on the radio and make country, country again.
Open statement... Not everyone could be included in the video, for whatever their reasons are(health, contracts, scheduling). No need to point them all out or bash those included... This was a well put together video.
Right?! She worked SO HARD to get where she is today, I have NO problems calling her the Queen of Country, being at her grind since the 60s and making her way to the top, she NEVER stops making music, venturing out to other businesses, a real mogul. Love her dearly
I just saw this video and I went OMG this is the best thing I have heard in so long. How come it isn’t playing everyday on country stations is beyond me.
imagine the ticket price to see all those wonderful talents under one roof at one time. God Bless them for such a wonderfully touching video & God bless all the wonderful talent that we have lost over the years also.
Man this song has me so emotional and in my feelings right now. Seeing Randy Travis sitting there by the window really got me. So many fond memories that country music reminds me of. Miss you momma.
I haven’t listened to country in a long time. But this was absolutely amazing. Most of the greats that I grew up listening too! I am a little sad that Garth and Shania wasn’t in it though. The video was still great regardless!
This song always brings a happy tear to my eye. I love all types of music, but I grew up listening to country more than anything. To see all these artists collaborate together is incredible. Country is and always will be my favorite music.
You know, I always have said I wasn't much into country music. But things like this always bring it back and make me realize just how much I DID love of country music. From a classic rocker, let me just say this made me cry! From the time it started with Country Roads, I got goose bumps, and there at the end, the Queen herself! That did me in! I love, love, love this! Thank you to all the great country musicians of my time. :D
I love how at 0:52 they where able to include Randy Travis, even though at this point I don't think he could sing at all yet! Plus they where able to add him gracefully in, to where he was sticking out because he wasn't singing.
I cried through the whole song as I am from Country Roads of West Virginia born and raised in this beautiful State, but now live somewhere else and I'll always consider that my home. Something about those mountains calls to you and calls you back, back to the Hills of WV. Loved loved this!
Love this Video yes I do, grew up in the country for a while and country music has always been my fav listening for 51 yrs to and keep on listening to it so much and love all the singers doing this , even put tears in me from listening to this song

Too bad they're missing the man himself. God Bless you and RIP John Denver
They definitely don't make 'em like John Denver anymore. :(
Its rather difficult to bring people back from the dead for a Country mashup :D
Not so much since mostly none of those people were ever together in the first place.

So amazing! I was in tears when I saw Randy Travis' cameo!! And how fitting to have Dolly finish it!
I had to replay that put twice. Glad to see I was not the only one. Loved Randy Travis music then and still love his music
wonder why he didn't sing. Contractual restriction? would have loved to hear his voice on it.
He's still recovering from his stroke.
thanks for the info. That was an incredibly sweet gesture to include him then. Very classy!
He had a pretty major stroke. He'll likely never be able to sing again.

Randy Travis can't sing due to his stroke some years back.

I wish that he had a bigger part. In my opinion his contributions to country music surpass Garth, Alan, hell even Dolly.

808 people who had something up their butts. What the heck this song is great!!!
Beautiful, just beautiful
Rip jonny cash... true country
truth. none will ever top Cash
This is a John Denver song
It's not about who's song it is, there are multiple in here. Just saying rip to a great country singer.
None of these songs are Johnny Cash songs.
Yes again I know I never said there was one in here. This is about remembering country music, and artist. Jezz guys.
Wish John and June were still with us.
This is like a walk through my life.
Nothing but smiles and Country Roads.
Randy Travis @ 0:51.
Doctors gave him a one to two percent chance of survival because of his stroke in 2013.
He's not 100% by any means ...but what a fighter.
Glad they inducted him into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year
He can also be seen at 3:34
Good thing doctors judge time to live off a poor persons life span. With money it changes things drastically.
How is everything going with you Randy Travis?
John Dorian that's not true at all I'm poor doctor told me I'd be dead at 8 at 12 at 18 and I'm 26 battling cf every step of the way and it hasn't taken me yet and I don't plain on letting it take me at all
Im not from West Virginia or listen to country music but listening to this song gives me chills.
Country Roads is about the South we wish was.
Literally the best video I have ever seen! Amazing job!
Wow, I didn't think that was possible, to have so many of the great country singers in One song (well technically two).
3 songs haha.
3
All artists in this video asked that same question. when they were asked to do it. They were just as anxious to see the finished video.
robert gardell
Ya eh
Yeah 3, but done well.
I love how they put Randy Travis in here even though he can't sang right now. He's my favorite! I loved this!
Love love love it!! So happy to see Randy's cameo in there. Awesome!!
Y'all... I just really do love Country Music! Got chills when I saw King George in there.
This was amazing. I love the way Reba took such an honored place and Dolly "the Legend" was a fabulous way to end.
I was watching this thinking "Where is Dolly!??!?!?!?!" And then got super excited at the end. I am so happy they honored her in this video!
God I hate country music...it's such a white person only club
+alex lee Oh god forbid something is for white people only! Please. Rap is a black person only club, so....go complain to Al Sharpton
This made me cry. No matter where I go or where I live, West Virginia has always been and will always be my home. ❤
Words can't explain how amazing this video is! Dolly at the end was just perfect!!!❤️
Agreed! Amazing! ❤️❤️😍
Amen
I WAS WAITING FOR HER!!!
So happy she was at the end.
YASSSS
Me too. It almost brought a tear to my eye.
WAY TO GO CMA!!!!!!!!! Thank you for thinking of Willie !!!!!!
And John :)))
Oh that and Ronnie Milsap. I swaer its been too long. This is the greatest.
Randy Travis! The fact that they included him touched my heart.
Can someone please explain to me why Willie Nelson's intro to the song took place under the Eiffel Tower? And what that has to do with West Virginia?
Because wherever in the world a native West Virginian may travel, this song is always a piece of home.
Four-time CMA Vocal Group of the Year, nominated fifteen times, Grammy winners --- would have loved to have seen Diamond Rio in this.
Thank you YT for recommending this after 3yrs 🤦🏽♀️
These artists put this MTV together beautifully 😍
This is awesome and very well put together! Watched it over a dozen times now. Sure do miss REAL, pure, country music. Glad we can stream these days. This gives me reason to watch the CMAs again for the first time in a loooong time. Let's get the "artists of then" back on the radio and make country, country again.
Open statement... Not everyone could be included in the video, for whatever their reasons are(health, contracts, scheduling). No need to point them all out or bash those included... This was a well put together video.
EXACTLY what I have been thinking while reading these comments.
ellen portier well just to add to the list then. Where's Garth?
Love the music thanks for sharing. Lots of happy memories
It's just the perfect country video, with the best country music artists of our time . Thanks all for this . I love you all
now this is County music!
Still loving this video in 2024 💜
I loved how Dolly was saved for last
the best!
I know right, it was amazing!
I did cry. I love her so much and it just allowed her to really shine. Hit me right in the heart
Right?! She worked SO HARD to get where she is today, I have NO problems calling her the Queen of Country, being at her grind since the 60s and making her way to the top, she NEVER stops making music, venturing out to other businesses, a real mogul.
Love her dearly
I can't stop crying. She is gold!
Uh, Carrie and Brad, can y'all go ahead and harmonize a full cover of "I will always love you?"
I just saw this video and I went OMG this is the best thing I have heard in so long. How come it isn’t playing everyday on country stations is beyond me.
Would have liked to see a quick shot of John Denver, in respect for the writer.
Same
but there wasn't anyone who has died already, so I guess that is why he wasn't done.
John Denver's was not the only song in it.
But he's dead lmao
+john Smith no shit.
I wish they would play this on the radio.
Glad they included Randy Travis :-)
Vale Charlie Pride. Truly one of the giants. Passed away aged 86
Absolutely LOVE this!! #ilovecountrymusic #forevercountry.
I cry every time I watch this. LOVE how they ended with good ol' Dolly!
I started to cry seeing Brooks N Dunn, Reba and Alan Jackson! And then Vince Gill chimes in! WHOA!!!
imagine the ticket price to see all those wonderful talents under one roof at one time.
So emotional right now!
This is probably the most country song out now.
and the lyrics aren't even original.
he is obviously making fun of the country out now-a-days being bro country....your ignorance is showing Vaquero
2021 listening over and over again. 💛
I haven’t listened to country in a long time. But this was absolutely amazing. Most of the greats that I grew up listening too! I am a little sad that Garth and Shania wasn’t in it though. The video was still great regardless!
Rip John Denver 😥😥😥😥😥😫😥😥😥😢😢😢
This song always brings a happy tear to my eye. I love all types of music, but I grew up listening to country more than anything. To see all these artists collaborate together is incredible. Country is and always will be my favorite music.
Charlie Pride deserved more than a half second.
NHindividualist agree
Nearly 50 years ago on our first date my husband & I listened & danced to Charlie Pride records all night! (Records? LPs? What the heck are they? 😂 )
That was something ridiculous, the man did not even get to lift his head up! piss me off
RIP Charlie Pride
rest in peace to a legend
OMG so Good!!!!! I can watch this over and over and over!!!
I can't get enough of this. Whenever I see Randy Travis I get teary, he has always been a favorite of mine.
With all due respect to the late Whitney Houston, that'll always be Dolly Parton's song. Beautifully done.
Dolly Parton & Vince Gill duet is the best version
Dolly should have been holding a picture of Whitney.
I agree. I love all of Whitney Houston's other songs, but I hated her rendition of this one.
@@mistylewis5249 NO!
@@rickdorsey3990 yes
It was an awesome vid.....you could take 10 years and not include all the ones who SHOULD have been in it!!!! The selection was just fine.
so true
where is john denver? too bad he wasn't included
John Denver died in a plane crash.
You could make a whole video of all the country singers that have died in plane crashes. Way too many.
All time favourite. what a song .God bless you folks
I can't get enough of this video. Some of the best country artists ever
WOW! The greatest country song ever produced. It just doesn't get any better than this.
I love how at 0:52 they where able to include Randy Travis, even though at this point I don't think he could sing at all yet! Plus they where able to add him gracefully in, to where he was sticking out because he wasn't singing.
Anyone else start crying at the end when Dolly appeared? No, just me? ;)
I DID
I did too
I did lol I saw her last night in Seattle! cried a few times during the show! lol
Here i thought I was just being weird! Thank you for posting this comment! You were not alone. :-)
I love how they started with John Denver's 'Country Roads'!
Blown away!! My soul has chills!!! Phenomenal song, cannot explain the feeling!!!😍
Amazing, simply amazing. As a long time country music lover, it brings tears to my eyes. Dolly at the end was the best, a great tribute.
Hate to see Chris Stapleton not included. Overall a great video though.
totally agree with you
I agree, Garth Brooks should've been included too.
why isn't this comment on the top?!?
1:10 Charlie Pride. Man's in his 80's. Absolutely amazing.
