THE CLEANLINESS ON THE TUBA IS AMAZING
And the trombone is just beauty
And the trombone is just beauty
as a fellow tuba player you can tell he knows his articulation and if you were next to him you'd be blown away by the power behind it
Well I guess that would explain why is considered to be at the top of the profession lol. ^0^
Chuck is the only original Canadian Brass member still in the group
I've heard countless renditions of the Little Fugue over some 60 years and this one continues to be one of the most exciting.
Yeah Justin Trudeau really slays it on the Trombone
The fact that you need 5 brass players to play this shows how much of a genius you have to be to play organ. Mad respect for organists. Great performance by the bass band, too, of course!
The independence an organist has with his hands and feet are just marvelous!
You have no idea how actually hard this is to play and they are so talented that it sounds easy. It is not, especially the trumpet parts.
I definitely agree. I play trumpet, and lead on it in a number of bands, but i certainly could never play this.
Stephen Locke never is a strong word. I’m trying to play it and I’m only in 9th grade but I guess you gotta start somewhere
I’m playing this in a high school quintet and the tuba part isn’t the hardest thing (which I play) but the trumpet parts are pretty difficult
You have to keep in mind that they play with eb trumpets and you most certainly play with bb trumpets which makes it a lot harder. Highest note in this is a c, from what i'm hearing, not too easy playing that note nice and smooth.
It's probably not too controversial to say many believe J S Bach to be the finest composer of fugues the world has yet seen. I know this piece from the organ score but this works superbly for brass, each voice adding a unique and complementary tone, strengthening the whole while underlining the counterpoint. Excellently delivered.
When most people think "Brass", they think loud sharp notes played in a band. This performance shows that Brass can be soft and subtle as wel.
These guys are schooled in the classical approach to playing. Everything smooth, refined. Very different than a jazzer's approach.
Maxim Tsai Like Mnozil Brass say:'Brass music is a broad term'
trumpetvids Jazz brass can be very subtle as well, look at Miles Davis - he was able to play very soft, smooth solos as well as more sharp passages.
trumpetvids That offends me :(
Some of my softest and most emotional pieces came from my jazz band ballad playing :(
I just think of DCI
00:36 chuck is singing along :)
Amazing how with only five brass instruments that they stay true to the original melody, harmony, dynamics, and tempo 100% of the time!
Amazing how somebody can write a comment with so little knowledge of what they are writing about.
- Bach wrote this as a 4 voice fugue for organ. It is not at all amazing that a brass quintet can play all the parts when they have five instruments to do it with.
- Why would they NOT stay 'true to the original melody'?
- Why would they NOT stay true to the harmony (which, BTW in a fugue is buried in the contrapuntal interweaving of the parts), so it would require a major recomposition to NOT have the harmony come out the same as Bach wrote it?
- There are no original dynamics. Organ parts are not known for having dynamic markings, as the similar effect is achieved by how the part of written and how each organist sets up the stops on the organ. The brass quintet pretty much just plays each part at the same dynamic level throughout, and lets Bach's writing take care of the dynamic effects.
- There are no original tempo markings in the sense that there would be for many pieces of ensemble music. The organist performs at whatever tempo they feel is appropriate. The brass quintet does likewise.
@@youtuuba elitism at its finest
@@doppled , unintelligible comment. If you have a point to make, write clearly.
In 2017, every week after my gen psych class I would go down the hallway and sit outside the music appreciation class and listen to them play this through the closed door. Idk why they made them listen to it every single week but I never knew the name of it all this time and I loved it. It's lived rent-free in my head for years and I never knew the name. I just hummed the tune into Google and it sent me here. The nostalgia is unreal. What beautiful music 😍
Nice! It was originally written for organ if you didn’t know, but I love this version.
Listen to this again and just pay attention to the french horn's part. It's awesome.
Ikr, I play horn and damn does that part look fun
Michael Moccio Ive played it and it's the funnest piece I've ever read. Hitting that b flat above the staff was a challenge but it really helped me expand my range :)
as a horn in high school performing this for a chamber piece...
I'm scared
1:30 to 1:50 is an amazing part. I love how the parts switch from each instrument.
Thats how fugue works
I think 0:00 to 3:15 is very good
@@ethandaniel1994 i mean. Thats a duh
That tuba, though, it makes this rendition. This whole sound is simply fantastic.
Drum Corps International is proud to present... in finals performance... Carolina Crow- wait, what is happening here???

I’m weak. 🤣😂💀⚰️
I could wake up to this, every morning, for the rest of my life.
I agree with you its amazing
I LOVE when the tuba comes in! It makes it so powerful and beautiful
Similar tone to the organ pedals
Bach's glorious counterpoint translates to any combination of instruments
One of the most wonderful little pieces of music ever written.
What a beautiful trombone!
A slide trombone!
ITS SO GOOD
Thanks!
Their wonderful performance is full of admiration, and emotion and comfort
The spiritual depth of Bach‘s music is immeasurable, and beyond description
Oh my GOD the trills in the bone were astonishing
I have been very fortunate to see them live many times. I saw the 80's version and now I am seeing the next generation (with one of the founding member on tuba) and they sound just as amazing. You guys inspire so many musicians. Thank you for all the great music.
Just when I thought they couldn't achieve impossible music like this, I find a video of the canadian brass playing this!!! Absolutely insane!
That Tuba enterance... the tuba echoes through the whole place
Высочайший уровень исполнительского мастерства.
the tubists tone is so clear and articulation is just immaculate😂those lungs must be huge
I have been a fan of these guy sense High school and they just keep getting better
kingbucky6 u I'll
I will always be partial to trombone since it's my instrument, Achilles is superb, but the whole group and rendition is so clean and amazing from every single member. This is how fantastic brass ensembles should balance and sound.
Love that tuba tone
Beautiful!
to do this on brasswind instruments is amazing! this is pretty amazing! (I used to play this on the pipeorgan... one of my favourite Bach pieces!)
Brass is the perfect instrument for baroque so nice and soothing
Yes, the world would have been more beautiful had the valved trumpet been invented 200 years earlier.
They are amazing. One of my favorite brass quintets. :D
I get to see them in December... Been waiting for years. I just want to meet Achilles!!!
This is so clean. Perfect matching of articulation, timbre, intonation... everything. Unreal. I can't even tell Coletti is playing C while Ridenour is playing Bb.
Here Coletti is playing Eb, and Ridenour is on Bb. There is another TH-cam video of Ronald Romm (playing 1st) and Fred Mills both playing gold-plated Eb trumpets, but Mills' instrument could have been an Eb cornet, since it has a shepherd's crook...difficult to tell with the video resolution and camera angles.
@@Atptplyrdefinitely a C trumpet. Looks like a C trumpet and the troll at the end he only uses middle valve for F sharp and then plays the last note open G.
Thank you for playing this in Walla Walla tonight. I will never forget.
growing up, i always wanted to play with the Canadian Brass but that darn tuba player wouldnt retire!!! lol. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the classical exposure. #respect
My hs trumpet section is currently attempting to put this together and it is so unbelievably difficult this is incredible
Nice Picardy 3rd ... You all have amazing articulation, especially the trombonist
Perfection =Canadian Brass
excellent. play it from the town hall tower on sunday mornings.
THAT BASS!! 🫡👍🏿
Music... such a powerful and beautiful thing.

They have a special Zamboni that clears the spit off the stage after each piece.
Such an underrated comment!🤣🤣
This made me laugh out loud 🤣
Wahrheiten...Adam Riese...Konrad Zuse..Siemens...Rudolf Diesel und der Meister Bach..ordnen die Welt ❤
Bravo! How come they played it so smooth!
Hard work pays off.
This is one of those videos that makes you want to be able to press the like button multiple times.
That C Trumpet and Bb has amazing blend!
Victor Persaud it's Bb and Eb
The Curve in the Eb Leadpipe is much further back than the C trumpet
this made me want to play again, so I looked into the local SO, the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and lo and behold Chris Coletti, is in it!! Must have left Canadian brass to join! how cool
I play horn and trumpet and watching these guys always gives me an urge to practice lol fr tho they're amazing!!!
this recording is a bit slower than the old one. For some reason I like the old one better. I just like the power of all the instruments. You can hear when a new instrument comes in. This is more clean and amazingly smooth. The old one is more exciting and powerful.
Això és el talent. Gran violencelista i trombonista. Costa molt de sentir una persona tant brillant. Bravíssimo!!! ❤
So beautiful!! The complexity of sounds ... I get lost in the music!
My marching band has a brass ensemble playing this as our opener. One mellow, 3 trumpets, 2 Baritones.
On se laisse entraîner par la dextérité et par le rythme de ces "brasseurs" canadiens. Nous sommes séduits!
Brilliant! This is awesome
That was just awesome!
All time favorite.
Literally get chills every single time
Brilliant!!!!! Wonderful!!!!
Awesome performance!
Wonderful musical reading! Thank you for the upload!
Fantastic performance !
I get goose bumps....and the trombonist, what a wonderful and subtle vibrato. I pray I someday sound like you....

Amazing!!
I know this music by watching the open course named listen to music from Yale many years ago.
Since then I began to LOVE classic music Bach and Shostakovich。
superb!
So talented and they make difficulty look so easy! 🇺🇸🇨🇦
Tremendo!! ❤
1:48 this what to show to people when they say the tuba has an ugly sound
i want more!!

Still my favorite song that I played on my recital.
