This short story read like a thriller! Interesting depiction of feudal mentality inherent in our tribal roots. Bala Chelladurai’s rendering does not do justice to the style and prose of Jeyamohan .

to me this story felt like a critics point of view of our own freedom struggle... the path we took to achieve the independence. The point of hurting oneself thinking that it would give a psychological pain to the abuser is evidence of a weak mindset... not strength...Story narration is quite magical...
You are absolutely wrong.
I dont think he committed suicide inorder to inflict psychological pain to the abuser.
If you follow the story all along,
It was him who saved the abuser all along the hunt multiple times.
Do you think a person with a weak mindset will put his life in front of danger inorder to save the other multiple times when he clearly knows it was perfect opportunity to take a clear shot to take a clean revenge without evidence.
He was very strong in his mind.
Death doesnt scare him.(proof - him saving the abuser multiple times )
It was him who gave life for the abuser multiple times.
According to him he was the provider of life. He was the giver.
He didnt like to be saved by him.
He didnt like to be favoured by him.
After all the bad he has been inflicted by the master, he didnt want to give his master a chance to do good and be a better person.
