You just helped me realize something about myself and why I've struggled to settle into the corporate world as a copywriter. People in the corporate world love to say they are passionate, but in the corporate world, results are measured by performance, not by change or evolution. It's the increase of numbers instead of the increase of an idea, if that makes sense.
Josh, your stream works because you’re like a young David Attenborough, but instead of narrating wildlife, you’re capturing the essence of life through the lens of video games.
To paraphrase a certain bearded man... What makes a commodity is that it contains two values. One is it's value as being useful the other its value as something for exchange. However what makes something a commodity in the eyes of those who use that thing as a commodity is that it's exchange value is the only thing they actually care about. The moment your goal is exchange the specific nature of what you are doing no longer matters only the money does and something becomes only as good as it serves that purpose. You are no longer producing furniture, food, art and so on, you are now producing commodities. You are no longer an artist you are a producer

Truth is, some of those “I put thousands of hours into this why no you”’people don’t get that for a content creator, they’re working. "I wanted to entertain people. As soon as I make that robotic, as soon as I make that corporate, as soon as I make that industrial... I lose something that I can't get back." And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why AAA game corporations will always eventually fall by the wayside, and why (most of the time) indie game developers shine. It's the difference between doing something for entertainment, and doing it for money. It's the difference between creativity, and greed. It's the difference between working on something you love, and being a slave to a corporate machine. "Where ambition meets industry, passion is poisoned by greed," is not only 100% true, but it can be seen in the games industry going back twenty years. I would even argue that the concept is what led Atari to crash the market back in 1983 as well. And yet despite the truth being everywhere, what has the industry learned? They've learned that "a single sandbag is a cool new way to hold back a tidal wave, and how dare anyone criticize us for thinking so."

1:40 - That reminds me of an old (probably apocryphal) story about Henry Ford, who was having problems with a huge GE generator in his plant. After his in-house engineers couldn't figure it out, he eventually called in General Electric. Charles Steinmetz, the GE expert who arrived, rejected all help and only asked for a pencil, notebook, and a cot to sleep on. For 2 days and nights he listened to the generator and scribbled down equations. After two days he asked for a ladder, climbed up, and made a chalk mark. He told Ford's engineers to take the plate he marked off and replace 16 coil windings. The skeptical engineers did, and the generator worked like a charm. Ford was thrilled until he got the $10,000 invoice! Ford balked at the figure and wanted an itemized bill. Steinmetz sent back the following: Making chalk mark on generator: $1 Knowing where to make mark: $9,999 Ford paid.
