Nice work. I did a similar project but my putty knife blade was somewhere in thickness between yours here and the thin flexible one you showed. It is a handy knife to have on the bench. I do want to find a thicker blade though.
That is an awesome idea!! I loved the "It didn't qualify for Flitz" line!! Like Alex from "screws and tools" channel says " its good enough for potatoes"!!
I think that angle guide is a very clever and useful tool. No more guesstimating the right angle. Great job repurposing a neglected scraper. A lot of creativity in your family.
Thanks Magdad that's a great transformation, I have a vintage and more recent (20 y/o) putty knife from Footprint they are really useful tools ideal for removing putty and also for battoning great quality Sheffield steel !
I have a couple of those types of putty knives, I’m going to try it out, I can see how handy that would be as a dedicated utility bench knife. Thanks for the idea, nice job on yours, enjoyed watching.

@@357magdad I started collecting knives at age 6 on up to my early twenties when I stopped collecting but still today have a reasonable number of knives and carried one ever day til this day. The saying “when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail” is largely true. But when you have a knife and a flexible mind, many of the world’s practical problems can be overcome with a knife.

I love this idea. I plan on making one soon. Something I've picked up from the bushcraft group is to Leanne a section of the backside of the blade a perfect 90° with a small burr for scraping. Hope that idea helps someone in this group.

Great video - as always. I was surprised you did not use your “Miracle Juice” on it to get the rust out of the deep crevasses. You have a very creative mind to make the connection between a rusty “throw away” and your finished product. Your knife would make a great leather craftsman knife. Thank you. Michael from Canada
You can really come up with some great ideas Magdad! I have an old butchers ( I’m an old butcher) knife I have been using thats really shot. I see a replacement coming in the near future. Thank You for sharing this idea. Yours turned out awesome!!
The number one rule to follow when making a knife out of already tempered steel is not to get it too hot or you will lose that temper, a good guide to how hot you should get it is you should be able to hold it with a bare hand.
Great project Magdad! I'm sure you have inspired many people to make one for their shop. Probably a great one to keep in the car too. Don't tell Chuck that you didn't Flitz it. 😆Great video!
Great bit of recycling, though you would change the handle to a wooden one but that plastic responded really well sanding. I'm off to look for one myself now! 👍🏻
Very nice Magdad! Looks like what I call a stop cut knife which I use to mark and stop a chisle cut... I also thanks to you have been using a lot of bluing in my knife builds . It looks good when theres pitting... kinda accentuates the patiena. I like that look.
A very functional knife. Well done. I would have Flitz'd it though. Ha ha. Good job, I am sure that knife will be useful for you. Looks like it can take a good batoning without damage.
I did enjoy the video! What a cool and handy project. I did get that angle guide a while back using your link in another video you made. Very similar to what I did people loved them everyone I made family members took them. I ran out of old rusty files 😆. Maybe do the same thing with new scrapers like I suggested werner has a made in the usa line like I said or exotic allex from Japan. Allex makes fantastic cheap scissors from Japan some of the utilty ones would make a fantastic knife if you took it apart.
Very cool, Magdad! I've never seen one of those angle attachments for the 1 x 30. I've got to get one. I was wondering what went into your choice of 25 degrees for a knife. Most knives are ground shallower than that, I think. Looks great though!
