Thank you everyone for the patience, whilst we sorted our website. We had a massive amount of traffic in a very short space of time and collectively you managed to blow up our site, haha! Built a very similar styled wall on my garden, just slightly taller and in 35 degrees. I am so happy with it. When you fill all the space with regular to bad holds the low height won't matter, you can perform very old school strong style moves.

  • @JonShep93

Nice looking product, my main issue is it isnt particularly long so a couple of moves and your pretty much done. I also noted in one clip when you went for a top hold the whole frame shaking. That being said - this product will sell very well, there’s been a huge increase in interest for home climbing walls due to covid but it’s so much effort to make your own - such a simple assembly. I love it!

There will be a lot of ENTHUSIASM ... but not that much of a business for this stuff ... so it is of a small "handcrafted" production amount, which not many companies will want to bother with. As newcomers on the market the WideBoyz are "hungry" and enthusiastic enough to make this effort though. Once they show there might be a market for it ... others will pick it up, especially because of the shipping cost problems and the larger market in the USA.

For *outside placement* there might be a slight problem of water gathering on the backside, which could ultimately destroy the nice wooden part of the wall. For this case you might want to think about adding an option for a BACKSIDE COVER.
Another option for outside placement (and for people with VERY tall rooms) might be an EXTENSION of the wall to basically double the height, BUT this obviously needs to be secured ... by adding a small horizontal bit to "lean / fix it to a wall" at the top.
The steel beams look really solid and would probably hold such an extended height (or maybe two) ... but the mats would probably have to be a bit thicker.

You mentioned you could put it "in your garden". Is the wall able to be placed outside? Will water damage the wall, and how about the matting? Thanks!

the frame would be ok, although i imagine after a while it would start to rust (however it is protected by poweder coating which will delay this substantially). The ply will last as long as any sheet of ply would outside, so for an amount of time but certainly not forever.
It will survive outside but it's obviously going to degrade much much quicker than having it indoors or protecting it from the elements. If you have it outside, I would recommend at least putting some rain cover over it to help give longevity to the ply

Looks promising! I recently got a similar freestanding wall: the "ArtRock Freewall", together with the tensionboard kit that's the perfect (lockdown-proof) home training setup for me. It's a tad bigger (however size can apparently be adjusted according to your space limitations) and completely build from wood.

I really wonder how this one compares to the kilter board, this seems like a cheaper alternative (can’t see the price bc of crashed website) but this wall seems pretty short
otherwise the build seems well thought of and practical, great job guys !

This looks incredible. I'd love to put a short tension board set (8ft/2.4m board height) and would love to plop it on this! Is this wall big enough?

yes you can put a short tension board on it. the climbing surface area is 2.4 x 2.4
you can see full dimensions and spec on the downloadable spec sheet here wideboyz.com/freestanding-wall/

Looks really nice. Hope your site comes up soon.
Did you guys look into options for making the angle adjustable, or was the plan always to have a couple of static configurations?

    • @WideBoyz
      @WideBoyz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

we looked into adjustable options. but having both free standing and adjustable wasn't an option
