    Thank you for doing this video! I tried making a corkscrew by wrapping it around another piece of stock, and failed miserably, lol! I really like your method of rolling it in the swage! And your comments regarding Costco being a man, and you working in the finest establishments had me rolling on the floor laughing! As always, thanks for the great video!

      Steve, My Costco comment had you rolling with laughter and my wife boiling with anger! I'm going to try to do a corkscrew by wrapping around a rod - I did something similar when making a spring but it didn't go exactly as planned. It seems like the logical thing to try but it's not actually simple. Thanks again for your direct support / donation. Glen

      Yo veo muchos vídeos de este artista. Me intriga mucho su taller y sobre todo, las bajas temperaturas con las que forja el hierro/acero.

    Weird... We had that Sparkling wine with dinner last week and loved it. My previous favorite was by Barefoot. Love a nice sweet Moscato.

      A coincidence for sure. This Moscato D'Asti is very easy drinking and I do have a sweet tooth. Thanks Ron.

    I tried making a corkscrew once, but I only managed to make a spiraled piece of art that keeps showing up in my scrap pile. Nicely done!

      Sounds very similar to me. This marks my first decent corkscrew. So from here, I'll improve the process and form. Long overdue for me but my range of blacksmithing skills is fairly limited. Thanks Rob for supporting my channel.

    I think after drawing down your material for the screw, I would have been tempted to wrap it around a mandrel and then stretch it like a spring to form the screw part of your corkscrew... Just goes to show there's more than one way to skin a cat!

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your temptation is correct. I just needed to finally make a useable corkscrew. Now, I'll improve my method and the form. Thanks jay.

  • @NickNameNick2

    I tried making a corkscrew a while back.
    Similar problems - wire too thick, curls too wide. Also, the pitch of the spiral was inconsistent, which caused it to tear the cork apart.
    I'll have to have another go.

      I'm glad if this video could be of any help. I struggled to make a decent corkscrew and now that I have a working one, I'll improve the design and way of going about it. Thanks Nick.

    Cheers mate. A cork screw is on my list to do. Your 'heads-up' about the screw will likely save me a bunch of frustration. Your videos are valuable on heaps of levels. Thanks for keeping them rolling.

    Sir, you are unquestionably the best creative blacksmith on TH-cam. Like a lot of people I tire of the smiths who use power hammers, hydraulic presses, heat treating ovens and other expensive gizmos and then proudly claim that they made a hammer or a set of tongs etc. There's nothing wrong with machinery but what does any of that prove on TH-cam? You, on the other hand, do everything by hand. Traditional and artistic. Thank you for your conservative approach to blacksmithing.

    • @gstongs
      @gstongs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know I'm not my most skilled blacksmith but I think my simple ways have their appeal. I really appreciate your overly generous comment. I'll continue to do my thing thanks to folks like you. 😬

      Yes, ideally it should be. But mine seldom turn out that way. I have some other ideas for how to go about this. Thanks.
