That's because dog's give you unconditional love. They will never cheat, get angry, abuse you, or walk out on you. Dog's are better than 90% of humans imho.

I just lost my Bichon Frise one week before his 17th birthday. The only dog that every single time I would look at him his tail would wag at me! I kid you not. It was never lost on me as I had 2 other Bichons who never wagged their tails at me. My Dodger was my baby who I can't hardly wait to see in heaven some day.
All the furbabies they are unique, precious, lovely. I treated my greyhound like princess , like my daughter. They are priceless and larger than my life!!!!!!!

What is your secret. I must know. My yellow lab is 12 years old and can't climb up the stairs anymore nor can he play fetch. I know it's probably too late but if I have another lab I want to know what I can do better the next time around for his diet and exercise.
My close friend and his wife had to put their Malamute to sleep last night . He was 11 years old and his back legs had gone . They are beside themselves with grief . He was buried today in their garden . A great dog and I shall miss him dearly as well . RIP 'NOOK' or as I called him 'MONKEY' . 😪🏴
Street dogs/stray dogs that grew up in the streets are the best. They develop a very strong immune system. I adopted two when they showed up uninvited to my house, when I was living in México. One is 15 years old and the other one about 14. They look a little like Labradors, but they’re both mutts. They have never gotten sick. They’re still very strong and kicking. They’re very grateful, and so am I. I like to say that they adopted me.
My beautiful and mischiveous happy mongrel died at the age of 18. I still remember him slightly waggin his tail while I was singing "his" song in My arms. He lived a long life and he knew he was loved (and still is).

The oldest dog in history is an Australian Cattle Dog, it lived to be 24-28 years old?if I remember correctly. They live a long time. The oldest living dog is a Chihuahua in it's 20's if I remember. I didn't see them on the list either....I could have missed them.
I saw a video in my feed about a 30 y.o. Lab. I'm not certain how "expected" these ages are. As a kennel manager I had to basically memorize lifespans on dog breeds. Not only are a few missing on this video, they're off by many yrs. in both directions.

I do understand you. Is really hard to let them go. If this helps you, in my culture, we believe dogs would guide us through the underworld on the way to the heavens. They will play and have fun until our arrival, so can continue our way.

We had a Border Collie / Australian Shep. Mix female that lived w/us 14yrs. Best Dog we ever had. Her name was "Missy" still miss Her so much. She's up in Doggy Heaven. 😢
I had mini Yorkie that live 16 years. My brother law boss bought his girlfriend a Yorkie for her Birthday. He didn't know that she was allergic to dogs. So my brother law took the dog off his hands and gave it to his daughter who was not even 1 year old yet. Unfortunately the 8 weeks old Yorkie didn't like kids. It took a liking to me and i took liking to it. He slept with me, he follow me. He love to play fletch, tug of war. Every night before we go to bed i alway got 4 or 5 licks before he go lay on his side of bed. The day i had to put him down was hardest day of my life😢 He was laying on the table prep for him to go to sleep. I put my head to his, he gave me a bunch of licks to say good buy. It was the hardest i ever cry. I had him cremated and he in family room with his photos. ❤❤❤❤
The longer they live, the smaller they become. Am a big dog person 10 to 12 years is not long at all, especially when the last few years your dog will have a hard time getting around. Had a chocolate Labrador she passed at 14, cried like a baby. Her last few years were tough.
My eldest poodle just turned 15, his son will be 14 next month, and my Pittie will be 8 in July. And American bulldog just scrolled by at 12-15 years..
We rescued a shih tzu 10 years ago, he was beaten and abused, we don't know exactly how old he is, but he is the most sweet, gentle, happiest little creature ever. He just got a tumor removed, and he is acting like nothing happened. We make fun of him, we joke, saying that he is Jesus first puppy. God had an amazing day creating dogs.
We had 2 pugs, Mia was 6 when she died, and Merry was 20 when she died, Mia had a heart condition and our vet said Merry lived as long as she did because she never had pups and we kept her up to date on her shots, he said we took good care of her.
The smaller dogs live the longest. The bigger they are the shorter their life span. I've had several dogs in my life time and it's sad when they passed. I just lost one last year and I still cry when I think about her. She was a dog my sister found and brought home. I took care of her after my sister died which makes it harder. My sister died five years before she did and she lived to be seventeen. I have a lap dog who's fifteen years old and he's supposed to live till he's seventeen. Just thinking about it hurts me a lot. My Pomeranian lived 12 years. I know she would have lived much longer if she didn’t have diabetes. She was the perfect hearing assistance dog. She died late August. I am currently training my puppy. She’s a Pom/shitzu mix, and we’re still working on sit. She stays, comes, lays down, brings me the toys I ask her for, but for some reason, she is refusing to do sit.
We've got a mix breed: half Boxer, quarter German Shepherd, quarter Border Collie. She was a rescue puppy and the runt of her litter. She has mostly the temperament of a Border Collie. She is now a spry 12.5 year old with hip dysplasia that's effecting her hind strength now but her weight is healthy so she's very healthy for her age. Her hip dysplasia is not noticeable, only to us who've known her since 8 weeks old. She can no longer jump up on beds, or say Hi by resting on your chest (only to members of her pack).
My boston terrier/ schnauzer mix just passed away at 17 years and ten days. Mutts live longer maybe? My eternal afterlife will be shared with all the dogs i have loved
Recently had to put down my seven & a half yr mini groodle Maxy,had a check up in December all good,by March cancer in spleen & kidneys,absoulutley devastated,still struggling,backyard not the same.😢
Nel 2022 la mia Volpina di Pomerania morì nel giro di 3 giorni 😢 . Aveva preso la piometra e il nostro veterinario non riconobbe la malattia. Dopo tre giorni di notte la portammo al pronto soccorso du un'altra clinica dove gli fu subito diagnosticata la malattia . Secondo il vet della clinica i sintomi erano chiari e non si spiegava perché il nostro veterinario (quasi pensionato , quindi con 40 anni di esperienza) non riconobbe questa malattia. Nonostante un disperato intervento chirurgico la mia piccola mori poche ore dopo 😢😢😢 Aveva 12 anni ed era perfettamente in salute . Solo questa maledetta malattia è stata fatale . Ho una grande rabbia dentro di me si poteva benissimo salvare ma purtroppo i 3 giorni persi furono fatali perché al terzo giorno andò in setticemia che gli fu fatale .😢😢

I had a pair of dachsies and mutt. 18, 18 1/2, and short of 20. I had a cat who died short of 8 years and was just beside myself. They all tend to live rather long here.
MAY 26TH 2024 MY BEAGLE WILL BE 16YRS OLD, HE DOES PRETTY GOOD, at 4yrs he got bit my a cottonmouth in TX, twice he had episodes (seizures) Dr had no clue why, has a heart murmur and enlarged heart, recently tested lime exposure, he must be a timex takes a licking keeps on ticking, he's my little boy
generally the smaller the dog the longer it lives. I've seen an explanation about cells...that the same cells that make big dogs grow bigger also make their lifespan shorter. It's like they die faster because they worked too hard or something 🤔
The vet informed me that my Jack russel puppy "Reggie" had a heart murmer. It never affected him till he reached 13 when I was told he had heart disease which led to kidney disease. He passed away aged 15 and I truly believe without his illness he would still be here because he didn't want to leave me. He was my best friend and I feel so lost and vulnerable with out him. A year has passed and I miss him everyday.
Sorry for your loss. Unless one has loved a pet, they don't understand that other side of love and compassion. My cat passed away and it took me several months to move on.

I had many dogs in my lifetime & the best way to deal with their loss is to get another dog as soon as possible. The biggest problem about owning dogs is the lack of good veterinarians. Many are not good!!!

My beloved German Shepherd, Blitz... aka, Blitzer... lived 15.5 yrs, Birthdate: January, 15, 1978 - late May 1993 naturally of old age the day after my x-husband came to love on him knowing it was his end days; although, Blitz saw him often when he came to pick-up or drop-off our children. A few days after I took Blitz at 8 wks old home with me... Blitz met my boyfriend (my husband 6 yrs later) who had a Black Lab, Tobi, who was 3 months old and they became lifelong best friends and 'brothers'. I was 17 yrs old, Blitz was 8 wks old, when I first met Blitz who 'chose' me that day out of a litter of 15 beautiful pups to which he was the runt. Blitz was contantly playfully growling and tugging at my jean pant legs. These pups were the offspring of my previous beloved German Shepherd, Samboy, who had ended up in my yard in the country and chose me as his friend and 5.5 yrs later was tragically shot by a farmer mistaking him for a coyote. I had trained Samboy from a Military Guard Dog training book... which I then trained Blitz... Both boys weren't vicious unless danger was sensed. They were highly intelligent, loyal, beautiful, protective and my/our beloved family member companions' who went everywhere with me camping at Mt. Rainier and in Montana, fishing, hiking, exploring the Eagle Lakes, biking, running, swimming, sporting events, goin to the park that followed where the mighty Columbia River flows, etc, etc.... we were constantly goin somewhere for fun adventures. I was never afraid living alone when divorced as Blitz guarded me and my children faithfully... I still have Blitz close to me in a beautiful Egyptian style urn... Tobi's, Samboy's and Blitz's genes carried on to this day; as well as, Blitz was a father of beautiful pups from a German Shepherd, Misty... We love you, Samboy, Tobi and Blitzer... Our Souls' Entwined for an Eternity... 🦋💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🦋

Mine was 16.5 years old . Had her to put to sleep because she suffered from alzheimer. That happened 5 years ago and I am still mourning. What a funny dog she was.
We had to put down my wife's Maltese at 11 years his heart and kidneys gave up but his will didn't! He licked the tears from my wife's face as he held him the last time at the vets. Bear was a loving and kind hearted little fellow !

Even though I know I did everything I could when he got sick. I still feel like I let him down because I couldn't save him after he saved me !!! One of my customers had two staffies, mother and son, a couple of years ago they died two days apart aged 19 and 17.

The oldest dog reported presently on Guinness is 30 plus 266 days still lives in Portugal! Looks like is not even bothered by arthritis!

My two chihuahuas are both near 15 years old and I cherish every moment with them.

We've got a mix breed: half Boxer, quarter German Shepherd, quarter Border Collie. She was a rescue puppy and the runt of her litter. She has mostly the temperament of a Border Collie. She is now a spry 12.5 year old with hip dysplasia that's effecting her hind strength now but her weight is healthy so she's very healthy for her age. Her hip dysplasia is not noticeable, only to us who've known her since 8 weeks old. She can no longer jump up on beds, or say Hi by resting on your chest (only to members of her pack).
My boston terrier/ schnauzer mix just passed away at 17 years and ten days. Mutts live longer maybe? My eternal afterlife will be shared with all the dogs i have loved

Recently had to put down my seven & a half yr mini groodle Maxy,had a check up in December all good,by March cancer in spleen & kidneys,absoulutley devastated,still struggling,backyard not the same.😢
Feed them good food instead of the commercial crap sold and they will live long years

Nel 2022 la mia Volpina di Pomerania morì nel giro di 3 giorni 😢 . Aveva preso la piometra e il nostro veterinario non riconobbe la malattia. Dopo tre giorni di notte la portammo al pronto soccorso du un'altra clinica dove gli fu subito diagnosticata la malattia .
Secondo il vet della clinica i sintomi erano chiari e non si spiegava perché il nostro veterinario (quasi pensionato , quindi con 40 anni di esperienza) non riconobbe questa malattia.
Nonostante un disperato intervento chirurgico la mia piccola mori poche ore dopo 😢😢😢 Aveva 12 anni ed era perfettamente in salute .
Solo questa maledetta malattia è stata fatale .
Ho una grande rabbia dentro di me si poteva benissimo salvare ma purtroppo i 3 giorni persi furono fatali perché al terzo giorno andò in setticemia che gli fu fatale .😢😢

I had a pair of dachsies and mutt. 18, 18 1/2, and short of 20. I had a cat who died short of 8 years and was just beside myself. They all tend to live rather long here.

Some pets live 13+ years. That is a very long time for animals in general. Especially if they have a healthy life.
My jack Russell lived till he was 21 and my grandad had one that got to 25. Don't know if it's because they are Irish and not the English breed.

generally the smaller the dog the longer it lives. I've seen an explanation about cells...that the same cells that make big dogs grow bigger also make their lifespan shorter. It's like they die faster because they worked too hard or something 🤔

The vet informed me that my Jack russel puppy "Reggie" had a heart murmer. It never affected him till he reached 13 when I was told he had heart disease which led to kidney disease. He passed away aged 15 and I truly believe without his illness he would still be here because he didn't want to leave me. He was my best friend and I feel so lost and vulnerable with out him. A year has passed and I miss him everyday.

I had many dogs in my lifetime & the best way to deal with their loss is to get another dog as soon as possible. The biggest problem about owning dogs is the lack of good veterinarians. Many are not good!!!
Other dog owners have told me that they cried more or grieved more when their dog died then when a family member died. I find this to be true.

@StacyMarshall-wh5qq You really never get over their deaths. I still can't talk about my previous dog without tears running down my face. My sister did therapy for 3 months after her dog's death. It's heartbreaking that their lives are so short.

My sister's Chihuahua, "Precious", lived for 18 years. She was the Queen of the house, and dominated a 110 lbs Weimaraner and a 100 lbs Boxer, amongst other dogs.

I got my first pooch when I was nine and she lived to be 16. My best friend growing up. 43 years later I still think of, and miss her deeply.
This is a good reminder that their lifetime is so short. Love them up... my golden retriever just turned 24 months. I can't imagine life without him.
My beloved German Shepherd, Blitz... aka, Blitzer... lived 15.5 yrs, Birthdate: January, 15, 1978 - late May 1993 naturally of old age the day after my x-husband came to love on him knowing it was his end days; although, Blitz saw him often when he came to pick-up or drop-off our children. A few days after I took Blitz at 8 wks old home with me... Blitz met my boyfriend (my husband 6 yrs later) who had a Black Lab, Tobi, who was 3 months old and they became lifelong best friends and 'brothers'. I was 17 yrs old, Blitz was 8 wks old, when I first met Blitz who 'chose' me that day out of a litter of 15 beautiful pups to which he was the runt. Blitz was contantly playfully growling and tugging at my jean pant legs. These pups were the offspring of my previous beloved German Shepherd, Samboy, who had ended up in my yard in the country and chose me as his friend and 5.5 yrs later was tragically shot by a farmer mistaking him for a coyote. I had trained Samboy from a Military Guard Dog training book... which I then trained Blitz... Both boys weren't vicious unless danger was sensed. They were highly intelligent, loyal, beautiful, protective and my/our beloved family member companions' who went everywhere with me camping at Mt. Rainier and in Montana, fishing, hiking, exploring the Eagle Lakes, biking, running, swimming, sporting events, goin to the park that followed where the mighty Columbia River flows, etc, etc.... we were constantly goin somewhere for fun adventures. I was never afraid living alone when divorced as Blitz guarded me and my children faithfully... I still have Blitz close to me in a beautiful Egyptian style urn... Tobi's, Samboy's and Blitz's genes carried on to this day; as well as, Blitz was a father of beautiful pups from a German Shepherd, Misty... We love you, Samboy, Tobi and Blitzer... Our Souls' Entwined for an Eternity...

Jack Russel only 13? Hahaha! Have seen MANY, which were much older, up to 18!!! Mine is 11,5 year and jumps like a puppy.
Mine was 16.5 years old . Had her to put to sleep because she suffered from alzheimer. That happened 5 years ago and I am still mourning. What a funny dog she was.

We had to put down my wife's Maltese at 11 years his heart and kidneys gave up but his will didn't! He licked the tears from my wife's face as he held him the last time at the vets. Bear was a loving and kind hearted little fellow !

I once owned a female golden lab. I lost her over 20 years ago. I still miss her to this day.
Our Husky girl was 16 when she passed. Our two Cocker Spaniels were 12 1/2 and 15 1/2 when they passed away. Miss those girls so much.
