We used to bowl two handed for fun as kids to get light house balls to rip across the lane back in the early 90s. Now all the pros and new bowlers are doing it haha
@TheBlueBunnyKen yeah I noticed that. I joined a practice league recently after not bowling for 20 years, and most of the bowlers are in high school. They predominantly bowl two handed.
Luis , appreciate the work your putting in . Making a change like this is big so it should be commended . I recall you throwing some in earlier videos 2 handed and What I saw back then was, and I commented , was I thought your balance was better 2 handed versus 1 . I think you’re going next level with a little time under your belt going 2 hand . It’s going to be a fun watch ! Go kill it my friend
Thank you gentlemen for posting this video. I recently turned 50 and 40+ years of bowling 1 handed is catching up to me quickly. The last year and a half it's been a physical struggle to do what I use to do with a bowling ball so recently I've been thinking about trying 2 handed. I just didn't know where to start but after watching this video it gives me a little direction on some things to start with. I love how open both of you are about what some of the struggles have been from changing to a 2 handed style. I would love to see move videos from you about this or if you could point me in the right direction to help me attempt this change. Thank You, Scott
As a one-handed bowler of over 35 years, switching to my current 2-handed style was a bit of a journey. I had to start with a 13 lb. ball due to my strength and flexibility limitations. I was around 215-220 one handed when I switched at 41 years old. I am now 47, almost 48 and I am now throwing 14 lbs. at about 15-15.5 mph average at the pins. My current league average is 228, with a 299 and a 770. Wish I started when I was younger, but I am still glad I made the change. The only thing I wasn’t able to learn well was picking up the 10-pin. I have learned the backup ball for that shot. I would definitely encourage you to try it out. There is a learning curve, but I feel it is well worth it. To be honest, because of my speed dominant nature one-handed, I had to learn how to play the inside lines. Making sure you have the right balls is one of the most important things to get right. I never paid that much attention to it as a one-hander. These things specifically helped me get to where I was before becoming two-handed.
Amateur here - take it with a grain of salt. 2-hander for about a year now and this video is reminiscent of many of the challenges that I'm still working through. My best shots seem to come when I feel super balanced and I'm posting (no surprise there). Using the interlock method has been key for me so agree with that one 100%. I've found that keeping my shoulder's a bit more square on my back-swing has helped me with my accuracy a lot. I might not get as much momentum, but I make up for that with a long and fast (but controlled) approach with my feet. One thing that has helped me a ton lately is really focusing on my middle and ring fingers on the release. It's hard to articulate but I've been able to tell through reps, what a good comfortable release feels like when my focus is on those two fingers. Just a little lift as the ball is just about to connect with the lane has been money. Last, and you said it, keep under that ball and keep that elbow in. As soon as that elbow pops out, I'm totally out of balance, my accuracy is out the window, and it's split city. Good luck to both of you on your 2-handed journey. Looking forward to seeing it unfold!
Thank you for this comment! For me I am focusing on getting my hand to a spot that it will not move and then keep building on it! Still a work in progress but we will get there!
Legend has it that lane 64 at South Point hooks more than most of the other lanes. I've bowled on that lane myself and noticed it. I can't stop thinking about the mechanics talking about topography while looking at lane 64 😂
Been struggling with ball speed for years after my switch from one handed. Tried Darren’s advice, and could hear Neo from Matrix say: I know Kung Fu. Instant ball speed that’s been eluding me. Thanks!
Lewie Nips! Good video. I've thought about making the switch because like Darren, I am lower ball speed lower revs. I just haven't done it. Still trying to work on my one hand game.
I do practice 2 handed. Not very good at it, but it is fun to do. I find it very difficult to release properly because I manipulate the ball with my left hand too much. I am incredibly inconsistent with 2 handed bowling. I can score anywhere from a 120 to a 250. But, it's fun to do.
I'm a one hand no thumb bowler. My highest game ever 224. But I find myself using and working on two handed and I'm thinking about switching yes I only bowl a 160 two handed but it feels easier and more fun
I too started struggling with bowlers elbow. It sucks and is quite painful at times. Perhaps next summer I will start learning 2H bowling. Could Darren share his KT tape method? I saw it in his tournament video but can't get a good view of it.
You cannot have a thumb hole if you’re not using it. Every hole in the bowling ball must be occupied. Also a X engraving must be in your palm on the ball where your hand goes.
I stop bowling years ago do to hand issues and I never thought or crossed my mind to go thumbless! I am looking to get back and try one two handed and see if it takes my hand issue out of it
Love the collab w/ D. Tang! After going to the dark side, do you think some bowling balls are more suited for 2 handers and some are better for 1 handed thumb in?
I have been bowling for about 5 years. All one handed until about 2 months ago. It’s a lot different, but much the same principles. I have more speed, MUCH more revs, but the misses seem to be much worse when it happens. My biggest problem so far is SPARE shooting. 😂
I cannot, for the life of me, do the interlocking method. I don't really practice, which is a huge part of the issue, but it's already hard enough clearing my hips so that my left arm can swing through, let alone when it's interlocked with my right hand. That's the hardest part of two handed bowling for me besides speed
Are you still doing matches vs your viewers Luis? I met you a couple years ago when I was at an SYC at South Point and I'm looking to get back out there soon
Your feet on your approach still look like a one hander; you might benefit from adding some left drift with some cross over on your second step to clear your hip
Darren said one thing that I really needed to hear, because it's been a major problem for me, and I've never heard it put that way before. "When you bowl 1 handed, the center of the pendulum is your shoulder. When you bowl 2 handed, it's actually the center of your chest." Great tip from Lou-y Nips and Dicky Tips.
Darren is just learning how to bowl 2 handed himself. Not really a go-to source for a teacher, but he CAN offer some insight into some of the challenges someone converting from 1 handed might face.
He may have recently started bowling two handed, but in that time he has gotten good enough to bowl a professional tournament two handed. With that in mind, i think it’s a little naive to say he’d be a bad teacher. These pros get more throws in a week than a lot of regular league bowlers get in a month. Of course they will pick things up at light speed
. Never said he was a bad teacher. To the contrary, if you watch the other bowl-tubers, he's been very helpful. That said, he IS limited to exactly what I referenced in my initial comment. That is, he can teach what he has been taught and share some insights on the transition from 1 to 2 handed. He can also draw on his knowledge that he already has and put it to use even as a 2 hander. Obviously, this is the case bc he did pretty well in the regional he bowled. So it's just 2 guys both throwing ideas around and sharing some experiences as they both try a new method. The fact remains, though, as good as BOTH of them are as bowlers, neither are really equipped to be teachers of the 2 handed method......yet.
Luis how are you? I’m sorry I like you guys and of course I’m subscribed to your channels. Having said that this two hand thing is not Bowling . You guys are doing it because it’s trendy get back to basics.
If two handed is not bowling then you dont need to watch the videos. Thinking like that is wild to me because some of the best bowlers in the world and all time are two handers LOL
I might have told you this already, but you have the advantage that I didn't 14-15 years ago when it came to switching. I had to figure it out, do video study, copy and paste what I saw Belmo do, and tweak as I go. Now with everyone doing it, you have the resources, feedback, coaching, and tutorials that I didn't have. Looking forward to watching you progress and MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, we can have our duel. Red Eyes Dark Dragoon is coming off the ban list....so I COULD put my Master Duel account on the line for you to have if you beat me? 🎳👀

This is why these guys are pros. Great video. Darren is so square when he releases the ball. You are going to get this.

@TheBlueBunnyKen yeah I noticed that. I joined a practice league recently after not bowling for 20 years, and most of the bowlers are in high school. They predominantly bowl two handed.
I bowled one hand no thumb in the 1990s.

I think you would benefit using your ball motion on you last 2 steps. Quicker motion, faster ball speed, high rev rate. Darren also does this.
I dont know what you mean
@ delay your arm swing/release until your last 2 steps.
Mark Baker has some good information and videos on two handed bowling too.

Hello
Do you still have to drill the thumb hole if you are going to handed??? any regulations on that?

Does 2 handed cause less stress on the elbow? Also what is the difference between 2 handers who lock their elbow vs 2 handers who don't
I would imagine it does cause less stress. im not sure about the difference but I never like to full lock my elbow
is an inverted track a bad thing? I also have this.
