I don't know any game that's similar to "Final Station", but if you want more pixel art indie game, maybe try "A Space for the Unbound" and "Rain World"
LOL NOPE. The Final Station is the only one of its kind. The dev's new game 'The Bookwalker' really hasn't lived up to my expectations after this absolute masterpiece.
It is forever in my head played out like this. Two, huge visitors are standing around engaged in mundane conversation. Guardian lands beside them and does a bunch of exaggerated, Power Rangers poses. One of the visitors casually bats it away and resumes talking about the wife's recent purchases or something similar as the guardian sails into the background.
Based on one of the car passengers in the DLC who has seen the visitors. ONE of them was twice the size of the guardian and could easily rip it in half
By far, the most effective narrative tactic of this game was the contacts list you had on your train. All of the names going dark one by one as you progress through the game really sells that *everyone* is dying. It makes the loneliness of the final level all the more suffocating.
Played this game years ago and yeah, this was the part that stuck with me the most. Watching little lights flicker off one by one and just feeling like there was a giantantic maw that you were only ever one single step ahead of the entire time.
The soldier escorts weren't lucky enough to get away with the train. The claw marks stained with blood at the end of the carriage means that they were dragged away by something that were more horrifying than just human-shaped entities as they sacrifice themselves trying to hold back the horde before it could reach their last hope.
You're 100% right! I didn't notice the drag marks of blood leading out of the windows of the cabin until I was watching the final version of the video. I always thought they had just... Been obliterated or something. Makes way more sense that they died fighting off the Visitors or the monsters or whatever attacked the Belus 07 at that moment. Thanks for pointing that out! And thanks for watching!
@@SquatchGamingChannel personally I believe some remnant of the military may still operate. If you pay attention t dialogue, it’s mentioned bunkers across the country are mostly for the military and what we can assume are important folks. This, alongside the fact that If you pick up the CLASSIFIED guy on the way to metropole and he survives, he’ll be on the radio with someone with a soldier at his side.
So you're telling me this train is supposed to protect the people inside from the visitors monsters and yet it doesn't have windows? There's no visible windows damage so that means it doesnt have any windows at all. Who the hell thought this was a good idea?
Come on, Edward totally deserved to be Reborn, he went cross-country while being attacked by weird goop zombies, awakened a giant robot only to watch it collapse and fail, and still made it back to his town on foot, while still sick from the gas, all so he could take care of his daughter.
Arthur did claim he could control that outcome which makes it worse. Despite being some 'higher being' he seemed to hate Edward in a very human, petty way. He wanted Edward to see it was for nothing and suffer knowing this just mere steps before the proverbial finish line. Give him hope before yanking the rug out. Arthur apparently got some sick enjoyment from this. But not before hinting the other guy who betrayed was going to experience a far less pleasant end.
As bad as it sounds, there was just no way. He was part of an old world that stopped existing while the new one had no need for him anymore. It's a meme at this point, I know, but if you brought a WWII allied soldier who died on the battlefield to 2022 and showed him all the...modern woke nonsense, he wouldn't like it one bit. Maybe he'd just switch sides... Humanity has a tendency of burying tons of people under the pavement to progress, and Edward was one of those people. "Deserve" has nothing to do with anything in this sad world. Once you understand that, I recommend you go and watch tons of russian science fiction, mostly from the soviet era. In fact, 70s sci fi in general will blow your mind. It's like half of the inspiration for Final Station.
@@evanharrison4054 That's stupid. Millions of WW2 veterans survived to 2022, because the following generations took care of them. Your usage of "woke nonsense" is also stupid, but that should be self-evident to anybody capable of even a modicum of critical thinking.
Even crimelords care for their children. You don't know Edward very well, you only saw one part of him. Don't be too quick to take his side lol. Arthur can be right all along too.
@@lespectator4962 I wasn't taking his side. It was the op who said that after all the hardships he endured, he deserved to be "white eyed" As someone with a POS for a father, I can tell you if he showed up during the middle of an apocalypse, I'd watch him cough out black goo until he dies, without a flinch. I literally wouldn't give two shits about how good a guy he's become since I last saw his ugly mug. If you ask me, I like Peter Gleen. He's a canonically good guy(doesn't kill Edward, despite Arthur's instructions) and if he gets away, I think he'd be the prime candidate for the protagonist of a Final Station 2. He's seen...things that make him an extremely important character, in the very least. If the lovecraftian shit in the DLC is canon, then it just made the universe 1000x more interesting.
In the DLC, it's strongly suggested that Guardian was sabotaged by forces allied with the Invaders. The hero finds a missile with instructions to launch it in case "Guardian strays off course". Excerpt from the wiki. This would obviously be the most viable reason why the guardian failed. Or y'know, "them" as people talked about in the west, who might have just destroyed the guardian P.S. After the devs finish their next game, book walker, the final station will be receiving a spinoff/sequel
I don't think it actually matters at all. The game already establishes these missiles don't do much to stop the visitors. So if one of them takes out the guardian, the visitors would have stopped the guardian anyways. So what actually destroyed it is mute, since it would have failed against the visitors no matter what.
Regarding Ristol and it's destruction... I don't know how right or wrong this is, but I always got the impression the giant Electrol Crystal was like a shield for the city, protecting it from both gas and the visitors alike. So when Adam gave it away, he took the shield away and that is why the city was untouched and was attacked inmediatly after Edward's departure
It might have had the same effect like the visitor’s reactor (probably powered by Electrol too) that it prevented the gas from affecting people. But I don’t think it kept the visitors away. I think it’s way likelier that it was the Visitor‘s retaliation for Adam not sabotaging the Crystal like he promised. Or they planned to do this anyways. As it’s likely the Visitors wanted the Crystal to reach the Guardian, so that the Guardian would inevitably fail and convince the Blacksmith that turning was the only choice he had. Willingly or not.
Well, by then I'd do what the military did earlier, and continue the scorch earth policy to the extreme. We'd might as well go out with a bang, with them knowing that they caused the extinction of humanity, not the uplifting. Because if we lose our morals and empathy, are we even human at the end of the day.
@@AnonD38 My POV is that the converted are purposely commiting mass genocide, 98% of humanity killed for their transendence. With no remorse of what they've done. Do you think they have ethics and morality ?
@@Magikfred It’s not the reborn who are doing it. It’s the visitors. Also the Reborn have no idea who will survive the medicine and who won’t, otherwise they would have already collected all those capable of being reborn.
Only did it because so many people recommended/requested it! I'm glad they did! The game has an *incredible* atmosphere and is unlike anything else I've played. It's fantastic. Lol. Thanks for watching!
@@SquatchGamingChannel of course! Its always a delight to watch how you interpret/analyse the stories in games where said story is not always obvious Keep up the good work!
I am surprised this video has garnered so many views considering the game is quite old and dead in a sense that no one really talks about it anymore. Glad to see these gems be rediscovered by people.
You and me both. Lol. I think it goes to show how impactful the game was to those that did play it. It really left a mark on them that's lasted for years. The Devs should be proud that they got so many people interested in their game.
@@SquatchGamingChannel Personally I feel kinda iffy about the idea that everyone was just supposed to give up and let the visitors and reborn do as they wanted. Visitors came, decimated a lot, returned and everyone was supposed to just accept them. Those that didn't were killed and the end is basicly happy ending for the reborn and everyone else is pretty much doomed. If everyone did absolutely nothing - including the player - the end would be pretty much the same as the ending we got. Nothing really mattered. Your only agency was to see the story as any resistance against it was eventually destroyed.
@@TheOneTrueMar I'm pretty sure the Visitors and/or Reborn only cared about a specific subset of the human population, most notably Adam and the Blacksmith, accepting them. No one else was supposed to do anything other than die or be lucky enough to turn into-and not get murdered by-The Reborn-The Sectarians for example don't all seem to react positively to the gas, which implies loyalty or mental contamination by the Visitors isn't enough for them to be considered worthy of Rebirth.
Not perfect by any means, but this was a hard game to cover! Hope the things I missed or left out aren't too annoying, and you still enjoy! Thanks so much for watching! Also, I said a video on Hyper Light Drifter would be coming out in December, but that's a little up in the air right now... The video will still be made, but may be pushed to January depending on what happens during December! Sorry about the wait!
Perfect Job, nothing can be truly perfect. But this is my sentiment to a job well done. for some reason I feel dejavu, I havent watched this video before but it feels like Ive had. odd
I appreciate you showing all those notes, speech bubbles and environmental storytelling to back up your claims. It's much better than showing some random gameplay footage.
Not gonna lie the only detail from the game left unanswered to me now is the drug/wine that one library/bar was serving to people as they relaxed around and read books Maybe something to make their last moments peaceful? or just a crazy chill pass time?
I have absolutely no idea. Lol. Maybe that houses all the books that have been banned by the government? That seems plausible... That could explain the guards at the door!
F$ck that $hit, the villain here is truly evil, it doesn't matter if you believe that your actions are justified, as long as you are making others suffer and killing inocents, you are f$cking.
The villain of the game is evil. They want to kill almost everyone, just because they can. The ones that decide to help the aliens are under the effect of what the gas they use, so there is the argument that this pepole dont have free will and are just puppets. But not only that, if we belive that what is immoral are the actions we do, then aliens are evil
The guy who had Vermont tortured and murdered and was perfectly fine sacrificing millions of people for the stupid a vague idea of evolution wasn't a bad guy?
No I’d say the truly evil villain of the story was all the people that wanted to let most of humanity die so that they alone could live as the rulers of the new world, not to mention all the horrific experiments they conducted on innocent people, that seems pretty evil to me personally. Who’s to say they were even right about the alien’s motives? Would kinda suck if they decided to enslave all the remaining people that welcomed them back with open arms
An absolutely underrated gem, played it in 2016 and I ate up the whole game in a few days, thought about it like some days ago and was very surprised to see it cover by anyone 6 years later, amazing video!
Thanks a lot, man! Only reason I played it is because viewers recommended/requested it so much! I'm glad they did, otherwise, I'd have missed this gem! Thanks for taking the time to watch! Really appreciate it!
The "it is too early to interfere" part got me thinking . . . what if the Visitors knew of the Guardian? Or that Adam and the Blacksmith were only playing along while still trying to fight back against the Visitors and the Reborn? Like, the Visitors and Reborn seem pretty focus on getting Adam and the Blacksmith to their side. So what if letting Edward through to complete his deliver, to make it so the Guardian could launch. . . was simple because the Visitors knew they would defeat the giant robot and in doing so would make Adam and the Blacksmith submit since there was no hope then? Also awesome video by the way, I've seen some of your other story summaries and while they are usually somber, you do a great job at explaining the lore and story of the game.
If the Guardian hadn’t been launched then Adam and the Blacksmith would have likely tried repurposing parts of the Guardian to attempt a last ditch adhoc defense of the City, which would have only caused more needless violence and likely would have led to the visitors‘ retaliation. With the Guardian launching and failing they knew they had no more aces up their sleeves. They knew no matter what they did, the end was coming and it was unavoidable.
I like to think it "wasn't the time" becase Edward was pointing a gun at them and they were still, you know, vulnerable to getting shot multiple times.
@@AnonD38 I never liked the retaliation aspect. Like, they go into THEIR world, and try changing the inhabitants of a world they're not from. Ofc they would fight back. But that somehow made the "enlightened" beings upset? So they just wreck them because they won't want to subject themselves to forced changes? This part of the story pissed me off
@@umamifan believe it or not, this is how colonization works. as a person who lived in a formerly colonized country (by the dutch specifically), hearing all the accounts of colonization and colonial history i've studied, those stuff you say are pretty commonplace irl. they invade your "world" demanding you to follow their standards and be "enlightened", while treating the one who refuse as some kind of uneducated rebels.
@@umamifan So you expect them not to fight someone shooting at them? Ask anyone who ever served time in the military, if someone shoots at them no matter their previous orders they‘ll shoot back, even if they were the ones on the invader side.
The two brothers, Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, are famous USSR sci-fi authors. They're most famous for A Roadside Picnic, the book that would later inspire the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. movie and games.
I asked the developers on Twitter if there's going to be a reference to The Final Station in their next game, "Bookwalker" and they might! It will probably give more insight into what happened, atleast that's what I'm hoping for.
They should just make a sequel. Or just explain the story on twitter like the half life writer did for 3. bookwalker already sounds boring and having looked it up it failed of course
This game made me feel like I was in a disaster. I knew there was something bigger going on, but I was to preoccupied with my own situation to come to a reasonable conclusion. This video helped me realize the full picture. Thank you.
If you look close, Arthur missed his shot. Edward's head bobbed up a frame before he fired and the angle also means that he missed, or possibly grazed Edward's body. He may have hit an arm or leg, but Eward lived that first shot, and I choose to belive that given that you turn into different monsters depending on your personality, his hardworking personality and indefatigable spirit meant he then transformed and tore Arthur a new one.
I wish they continued on this story in the near future, like 20 or 50 years or so, where you play as the conductor's daughter as a hyper-evolved human resisting this new world order that forced her father to be removed from her life.
The devs said that after their next game(Bookwalker or something), they plan on continuing the Final Station story or at least make a game set in the Final Station universe.
I remember this game holy crap I was always so confused by it but thank you SO MUCH for explaining it. It was that invisible itch that i always had at the back of my mind and now... I can rest.
@@SquatchGamingChannel I mean it was super easy to watch for how good it's made. Thanks for responding now i'm gonna see a bunch of your videos because they are just a joy to watch.
‘The medicine’ has biiiiig eugenics energy. The whole reborn thingy is basically eugenics 101….so then winning makes it feel not just bleak but very icky
Guess I'm just a big mark for stories about the last stand of humanity. Everything from Attack on Titan to Battlestar Galactica, Homeworld to the Walking Dead, and on and on, it's all drawn me in. Even that Black Rock Shooter PSP game which, despite everything, had me actually crying. When something is ending is the perfect time to clarify and examine it, to really take it all in and realize what's important as it burns away. So, the atmosphere of this game immediately gripped me when I saw a few videos on it, and it's been wedged in a tiny corner of my memory ever since. It was just as nice as it was surprising to see your video on it in 2022. Come to think of it, I've also always loved trains...
The fear of losing it all is a powerful one. There really is only one way for a rational human being to overcome it: hope. Hope that, even if you die, others will carry on. Without hope there is only that ever enveloping fear. Fear is a natural biological response to danger. But since most humans (in the first world) nowadays haven’t felt true bone chilling fear for a long time (sometimes ever), experiencing this fear makes us crave this unknown feeling. Horror as a genre is as popular as it is, because real horror is (fortunately) only experienced by few people (in the first world) today.
I call bull. You said the last stand of humanity, but then you turned around and said Homeworld. That wasn't the last stand of humanity, that was the last stand of the Hiigarans! (I kid I kid 😜)
I remember this game, it made me feel depressed but also wanting answers. Also it seems i missed so much details in the game and just focused on the mc. Like i didn't know there were things like the "Reborn" or those invaders from space. I thought it was some sort of War caused by Humans and that bioweapon made humans into Zombie like creatures.
Yeah, I wasn't exaggerating when I said that it's easy to miss crucial information. That's really my only gripe with the game. The DLC remedied that problem, but then made it so you had to play through the game a dozen times to see all the conversations. It was like a one step forward, one step back kind of situation. Still a great game though! Lol. Thanks for watching, man!
@@SquatchGamingChannel Well there is a problem with that. Making your story super easy to figure out takes a lot of the fun out of piecing it together. Not being able to find all puzzle pieces at once and having hours and sometimes days to think about what comes next is definitely part of the appeal for many. Even if they don’t know it consciously.
I'd like to perhaps recommend 1 if not 2 games, both Project Moon's Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina. Both games having a story to tell between all the stuff happening, LobCorp also being a prequel to Ruina and such. Take your time if you'd consider giving them a try!
A couple of other people have been recommending those games lately. If I ever get the time, I'll have to check them out. Looks like they're very much a "Don't Judge a Book by its Cover" type of game. Lol. Thanks for the recommendation! Really appreciate it! And thanks for watching!
I was listening to this, thinking that the Visitation seemed very similar to what the Strugatsky Brothers wrote about in their Roadside Picnic, and then their names are dropped in-canon. Fantastic. Glad the Devs have great inspiration, while still being humble enough to honor the authors they were inspired by. Very cool. Great detail.
I think the most crushing part of this for me is Edward doesn't get to lay eyes on his daughter before he's denied the chance to live in a new world with her. All of this, every pain staking hour of work and bullets fired and bruises and burns and narrow survival, only to die before he can hold his daughter one last time. and for what? simply because he isn't worthy of being a reborn? Edward embodied the indomitable human spirit of love, only to be crushed under the heel of an uncaring, unempathetic, god-like species.
I remember playing quite a bit of this game years ago I didn't even know you could melee lol, also this game (from what I remember) seems to have a lot of background details and info you could miss
Having a lot of information you could miss is putting it mildly. Lol. The resource management required in the train travel sections of the first game actually incentivizes you to end those sections as quickly as possible so you don't have people die and/or run out of resources, so you can easily miss crucial information about the story. It's impressive that you beat the game without the melee though! It's important to use so you can keep a handle on your ammo, but I suppose you made it work without that. Lol. Thanks for watching!
The most frustrating part of this game is not that a small band of elitists were willing to murder the vast majority of humanity in the name of some vague idea for "improvement" but that the writers of the game rewarded them by allowing the cabal to be a part of that future. It turns out that they were totally right! They really ARE better than everyone! And now they get to subjugate humanity and rule over the battered remnants with an iron fist! It's nauseating.
@@thepoliticalgunnut8018 I am very disappointed that there is actually an organization that you could instantly name that pretty much describes the game antagonists. Disappointed but not surprised
Yes, you're supposed to be nauseated. In fact, I think the game makers WANT players to hate the Visitors and the Reborn and the ending. The bad guys won before the game really started, and your character(s) are the lucky few who at least get to understand why. TFS contrasts hope and bravery in a bleak world of inevitable doom. This ending is part of it, too.
Thank for your content Sgo. You've been a youtuber whose videos are always a comfort to watch, and i can feel all the effort you've put into each and every one of them. I really like that you always provide subtitles. I know how hard it is, and i just want to thank you for your work and dedication, you're truly amazing!
Honestly, there are times where I doubt whether I should keep doing this, but hearing that they bring a little comfort for someone out there is a great motivator to keep going, so thanks so much for the kind words and thanks so much for watching! :)
This game is far from what I usually play but it's genuinely one of my favorites. From the art style, the general "vibe and aesthetic" of the world and especially the music hits just right. It reminds me a lot of when back in the mid 2000s' my mother and I would go to a mall and during the train ride you could see the industrial buildings and the unkept sides of the tracks with cement barriers and rusted metal being overtaken by foliage. Those memories flooded back into my mind the moment I began playing the game, so yeah, I quite enjoyed it.
Must been hard gathering all this information. This game lore kinda reminds me of Iconoclasts, bc of the "end of the world by superior forces" vibe. Great video 👌
It actually wasn't too bad. Way better than Dead Cells or Darkest Dungeon where I had over 100 hours played before I could actually begin to work on the video. While I love those games, it was a pain making those videos. Ugh! Iconoclasts has been recommended/requested a few times, and it's just my type of game - I just haven't had the time or opportunity to play it yet. Maybe sometime next year I'll be able to give it a shot! Thanks for watching!
Everyone jumps to the conclusion that our character, Edward, is a bad person because he was changed by the medicine. However, I don’t think the medicine inherent just infects bad people, I believe it more just affects those who are more emotion driven, more human. Edward is one such person, he refuses to find his own safety because he wants nothing more than to return home to his child. He refuses to let go, which ultimately cost him his life. If he was such a bad person to begin with, why do the people him look at him indifferently? Why would his daughter look up to him? Ultimately, I would believe if anything, either his hand in helping humanity, or the bitterness of Arthur/The Cowboy was what caused Edward to die.
I didn't get that impression, either. I gather that Edward, like the player, doesn't know what's going on and didn't anticipate the Apocalypse happening when he went to work that morning. He just wants to do what he's being made to do and get home. The Visitation rains on both the good and the bad. Whether you become Reborn is largely the genetic lottery.
09:42 I mean, the story gave me already "Roadside Picnic meets War of the Worlds vibes", but when you dropped the names of the brothers...those are the names of the two writers of Roadside Picnic! Stopped the video, now I will have to play the game...
THANK YOU! Thank you for covering this game! It was so difficult to find somebody on TH-cam who covered the lore of this game in english, i really wanted to explain the lore of the game to my friends but it was so hard to find a good video
Thank you for watching! Yeah, there's not a lot of information out there on the game (that I saw anyways). Even the wiki is pretty barebones. Lol. Hope the video answered some questions you had on the story! Thanks again for watching!
Yeah, there's not a lot out there. Even the wiki is barebones. Unless you want to dig through some forum posts, it's hard to find something that puts it all together like. Hope it answered some questions that you had on the game! Thanks so much for watching!
I've been looking for an explanation of this absolute twisted pretzel of a game for a long time. I couldn't quite wrap my head around the plot, but the concept of someone rushing through a place that's crumbling all around them on some long-shot effort for a better ending fascinates me. I'm just captivated by the way the game reveals to the player that something is wrong. You get rumors from other people, and then big things like communication and transport suddenly breaking down, but almost nobody knows anything about what's happening-- either because the attack itself is too quick for news to get out or because authority is intentionally keeping it quiet. That already really catches my interest, but then they added the theme of a hopeless cause and the hyperfocused viewpoint that only gives glimpses of what's happening in the world at large. I saw someone asking about other games like this in the comments. I don't think other games like this exist. I haven't even read a book or watched a movie that worked with the same concept. What a great game.
Even though I played through and completed the main game twice, I must say I never even had idea that there were giant alien creatures attacking earth. Thank you so much for this video, it really helped me comprehend it much better. The final station is such a gem of a game
Thanks for covering this game, its been years since I've heard about it so I appreciate a summary of this caliber, your work is always of top quality. Thank you for covering this game and also I hope your son is ok, I was worried by the message.
This is possibly my favourite game of all time, story-wise. I remember trying to piece together the whole story multiple times. Thank you very much for covering it.
So wait. If the medicine wasn't supposed to make monsters, and it turned out there was a way to ensure it worked correctly, why did the Visitors go to war instead of just explaining.
You try explaining it. "Heyyyyy so I'ma shoot this medicine at ya and it'll kill absolutely a lot of people BUT it'll make a lot of people BETTER too! "Eh? Ehhhh?" Most people would absolutely NOT agree to that.
Because it's Eugenics, the medicine only works for a select group of people, the rest dies. And humanity would have absolutely rejected that notion, that a outside being decides who lives and who dies.
It's been years since I last played this and i had never heard of this yt channel before. But my man, thank you for this video. It's a beautiful telling of a beautiful story. Because of this I can now fully appreciate the story, and it is a story worth fully knowing
How did I not see this video sooner?! The Final Station is one of my favorite games and you did an INCREDIBLE job covering the story. A video like this was desperately needed for the game to truly encapsulate its genius. Thank you so much!
Nothing justifies killing and turning most everyone else into monsters while the lucky few individuals get to live, just to kickstart humanity's evolution. That was not the Visitors' call to make... Edward did not deserve to be turned into a monster either... Arthur is a traitor, and a saboteur. The Visitors? Giving humanity a key to the future - but *WHOSE* future! They denied us any other choice! For the Visitors it's either evolve the way *they* want us to, or die! That's not fair or reasonable, and far, far from benevolent intentions! It's evil, plain and simple. A perfect, yet pitiful excuse to justify genocide. That's not "medicine..." it's theological insanity. it's *murder.*
Yeah, it's crazy. The world building, lore, and atmosphere are top notch, but the game could have been even better if the actual telling of the story was better. Lol. Happy to hear it cleared some things up for you, man! Thanks so much for watching!
This game reminded me of the three body problem novel, the infighting between humans who want to stop the invasion and the ones who want to accelerate because of personal gain.
I've seen this game so many times and kept it in the wishlist, but never convinced myself to play it. And after having watched all of your video, I started changing my mind. This whole story interested me, so much that at 35:34 I actually knew what you would say. Thank you for your hard work and explanation!
Finally someone did a lore video about this game. Wanted to know more about the story, but couldn’t find any essays about it so thanks for that. This video was very well done!
Loved the atmosphere of this game. Very rare to come across a piece of media that truly gives you chills. But yes I also couldn't really make heads or tails of the story because I was too busy trying to keep everyone alive. Thank you for putting all this together.
The Final Station, I played this game, since it had a silent protagonist I was just voicing him myself, my reactions were his and his reactions were mine, this level of immersion was what had my crying by the end. I haven't played it sicne, in my opinion, in this game both the journey and the destination matter deeply.
Thank you for this! The story and atmosphere of this game really engrossed but I could never piece it together. It was pure joy seeing this in my recommended; I had been wondering for a long time. Thank you!!!
I've been waiting for something to make a video about this game, i know how the story goes but just want to hear someone say it. Thank you for this! Gotta ready up my popcorn.
I accidentally stumbled upon this gem of a videos. I love lore in some of the games, and the way you delivered the story of this game to us is just fascinating. You found yourself a new subscriber that was really impressed by your storytelling and editing capabilities.
Psychologists have done studies and have noted that humans who lack empathy, and refuse to commune or support others, including their own children tend ro produce weaker offspring, both physically and mentally. Something to take note of.
I am so eternally grateful for you putting these on spotify! that is something i would die for for other youtubers like this to do! i often import videos like this to my spotify just so i can listen to them while im walking or something else so truly truly thank you!
Yikes... You're making think maybe I should revisit the thumbnail, but I don't even know how I can fix that... That's the logo from the game's website. Lol.
Thank you very much! Happy to hear you enjoy! :) I've never heard of Signalis. Just looked it up and it looks interesting! But I'm not a horror game type guy, so I would be way out of my element. Probably would be too scared to finish it. Haha.
Gotta say, I've eyeballed this game so many times over the years and never pulled the trigger on it. I'm very grateful that you did, and that you explained it so well. Appreciated sir SUB'd
In games like this, I would always chose the side of the resistance. I would rather die fighting for the world I know than try to adapted to a world different in every aspect.
Man this game takes me back, I was still in highschool when I discovered it after finishing deadbolt, and both games I didn't understand the story of until now so thanks for that!
Another game where the one major question the ending asks is if you just wasted hours of your life, since nothing you did mattered in the end anyway...
you brought order to my life with this video. When I played this game a few years ago I felt really confused about the story and at the time there wasnt much conclusive videos about the topic. The other day browsing YT stumbled upon your video and what a video it is. Suffice to say that im addicted to your channel. You have my upmost gratitude
wait wait wait- so… Arthur Vane is painted to be morally gray, when what he is advocating for is literally just eugenics… and him winning is presented as a hopeful thing???! bru
Let's just hope his plan actually worked as intended otherwise his sabotage would have been for nothing. Against an existential threat. It's better Humanity at least survived

I really hated the ending. Edward fought and survived so much, with so much Will and Determination it just never made sense to me that he’d turn black. At least I wish he’d have taken out Arthur. Dickhead didn’t deserve to see the new world.
The minute you mentioned metal cylinders raining down from the heavens in the "Background of the World" section, all I could hear was the bass guitar opening from Horsell Common and the Heat Ray from War of the Worlds.. Love this game, even if the story went more or less over my head. LOL NOPE. The Final Station is the only one of its kind. The dev's new game 'The Bookwalker' really hasn't lived up to my expectations after this absolute masterpiece.

The Bookwalker its from the same creators
Rip Guardian, you will be remembered fondly as the big ass robot who went out trying it all.
fondling????
It is forever in my head played out like this.
Two, huge visitors are standing around engaged in mundane conversation. Guardian lands beside them and does a bunch of exaggerated, Power Rangers poses. One of the visitors casually bats it away and resumes talking about the wife's recent purchases or something similar as the guardian sails into the background.
@@invisi-bullexploration2374

By far, the most effective narrative tactic of this game was the contacts list you had on your train. All of the names going dark one by one as you progress through the game really sells that *everyone* is dying. It makes the loneliness of the final level all the more suffocating.
My train kept breaking down at the worst times so this never really worked for me lol
@@amprobaconhair2722 same people who stopped production of this beautiful train
Only seeing the aftermath of already bloodied soldiers ripped through the windows of a train makes for a stellar threat to let linger.
It was the op who said that after all the hardships he endured, he deserved to be "white eyed"
As someone with a POS for a father, I can tell you if he showed up during the middle of an apocalypse, I'd watch him cough out black goo until he dies, without a flinch.
Or y'know, "them" as people talked about in the west, who might have just destroyed the guardian
P.S. After the devs finish their next game, book walker, the final station will be receiving a spinoff/sequel
Are you sure about this?
@@Magikfred Who said we lose our morals and empathy?
@@AnonD38 My POV is that the converted are purposely commiting mass genocide, 98% of humanity killed for their transendence. With no remorse of what they've done. Do you think they have ethics and morality ?

@@SquatchGamingChannel where did they come from???

Not gonna lie the only detail from the game left unanswered to me now is the drug/wine that one library/bar was serving to people as they relaxed around and read books
Maybe something to make their last moments peaceful? or just a crazy chill pass time?
I have absolutely no idea. Lol. Maybe that houses all the books that have been banned by the government? That seems plausible... That could explain the guards at the door!
I love a story where there isnt a complete-true villain that is evil. Everyone wants to make humanity better, but in their own way
F$ck that $hit, the villain here is truly evil, it doesn't matter if you believe that your actions are justified, as long as you are making others suffer and killing inocents, you are f$cking.
I don't know, participating in a world wide genocide is pretty evil no matter how one tries to sanitize it.

Same!! Was randomly thinking about this game in the shower last week, hadn't picked it up or played it in years
The "it is too early to interfere" part got me thinking . . . what if the Visitors knew of the Guardian?

You'd probably get a kick out of the EDF games
I call bull. You said the last stand of humanity, but then you turned around and said Homeworld. That wasn't the last stand of humanity, that was the last stand of the Hiigarans! (I kid I kid 😜)

I didn't even know you could melee lol, also this game (from what I remember) seems to have a lot of background details and info you could miss
Lol.

Thanks again for watching!
this game hits me like no other the atmosphere is so good. ive loved ever since i watched jacksepticeyes playtrough many years ago
I love this game with all my heart, im glad someone is finally covering it
Had been waiting for any lore about this game, got intrigued by first playthrough, but nothing much much after that, thanks for the lore dump.
Because every enlightened being must be an asshole, otherwise the plot would be boring
You try explaining it.
"Heyyyyy so I'ma shoot this medicine at ya and it'll kill absolutely a lot of people BUT it'll make a lot of people BETTER too!
"Eh? Ehhhh?"
Most people would absolutely NOT agree to that.
Thank you so much!
love your video and sorry for your loss, what you spend every second with him has to be the best second he could ever have.
Wait, is his kid ok?
@@warpotato8700 Watch the last part of the video and watch till the end.
He was born very sick and passed away in August last year. My wife and I miss him everyday
@@SquatchGamingChannel so sorry to hear that. We love you
Nothing justifies killing and turning most everyone else into monsters while the lucky few individuals get to live, just to kickstart humanity's evolution.
Awesome video, difficult game to piece together. Took like 10 playthroughs to 100% it, now I get the whole story. Thanks!
I love that book series! Do you know if the author has been writing new books, or no?
It also seems equally hopeless. The great ravine, no?
I've seen this game so many times and kept it in the wishlist, but never convinced myself to play it.
And after having watched all of your video, I started changing my mind.
This whole story interested me, so much that at 35:34 I actually knew what you would say.
Thank you for your hard work and explanation!
Finally someone did a lore video about this game. Wanted to know more about the story, but couldn’t find any essays about it so thanks for that. This video was very well done!
Thanks, i've been waiting for a story-video for this gem. Well done!
Hope it matched with your memory of the story, and that you enjoyed even though you know it already!
Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
This game has always ranked among my top 3 favourite apocalypse-related games, one I've replayed over and over. This is a treat.
thought the thumbnail said "the story of the final solution" for a second there
Yikes... You're making think maybe I should revisit the thumbnail, but I don't even know how I can fix that... That's the logo from the game's website. Lol.
OH MY GOD FINALLY SOMEONE COVERED THE STORY, ive been looking for someone to cover it for months ever since i finished the game. Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching! Hope it answered some questions you had on the game! :)
@@SquatchGamingChannel 100% did! Again, thank you!
You do great work covering indie games, really hope you cover the mindscrew that is Signalis somwday!
Thank you very much! Happy to hear you enjoy! :)
I've never heard of Signalis. Just looked it up and it looks interesting! But I'm not a horror game type guy, so I would be way out of my element. Probably would be too scared to finish it. Haha.
@@SquatchGamingChannel we got you bruv
Gotta say, I've eyeballed this game so many times over the years and never pulled the trigger on it. I'm very grateful that you did, and that you explained it so well. Appreciated sir
SUB'd
I am SO glad, thanks for covering this game!
I can’t thank you enough for covering one of, if not my favorite games. We all truly appreciate your work.
From the thumbnail, I totally thought this was a Dishonored lore video.
In games like this, I would always chose the side of the resistance. I would rather die fighting for the world I know than try to adapted to a world different in every aspect.
I absolutely love seeing bigger creators giving this amazing game the recognition it deserves, loved the video
You know what would Be Funny? If you could find a Hazmat suit at the End. I'd love to see That.
So glad someone is covering this game. It's a really great game that people didn't appreciate enough I find
Man this game takes me back, I was still in highschool when I discovered it after finishing deadbolt, and both games I didn't understand the story of until now so thanks for that!
After playing this game back in 2017, I didn't get the story and nobody made a video about!
Thank you for this, finally!
This game is absolutely slept on. The soundtrack is one of my favorites!!
Btw, I added the developers on steam, they’re very chill and have said that they have things in the works.
If I had to guess, it involves that strange castle we saw in The Only Traitor
I Haven't even watched more than 10 seconds of the video yet but I've already liked it just cause I know it's gonna be peak no matter what. Keep up the great work and take care squatch 😃
Thanks, man. Appreciate the love and support! Hopefully you don't change your mind by the video's end. Lol.
Thanks for watching!
Finally, someone actually covering this game's stories
this explained a lot easier, thank you for your effort
I really hated the ending.
Edward fought and survived so much, with so much Will and Determination it just never made sense to me that he’d turn black.
At least I wish he’d have taken out Arthur.
Dickhead didn’t deserve to see the new world.
The minute you mentioned metal cylinders raining down from the heavens in the "Background of the World" section, all I could hear was the bass guitar opening from Horsell Common and the Heat Ray from War of the Worlds.. Great video, seen this game floating around some places but never looked into it
Um i dont understand how the conductor didn't get white eyes considering how the main thing that leads to white eyes is strong will, high intelligence which the conductor has
Plot hole
Love this game, even if the story went more or less over my head. I remember it was very difficult to follow the dialogue of the train passengers because I was too busy trying to maintain the train and keep everyone healthy, and the ending was extremely grim and anticlimactic. Still, intriguing lore. Great video!
Imma keep it 💯, you are the only channel I trust for an indie game lore dump
Happy to hear it, man! Thanks so much for watching!
Bit of a bittersweet ending there, wish Edward didn’t have to turn…
Do not fear the end my friend.
Every ending is a new beginning.
@@AnonD38
If the end involves our dad bro getting turned into a zombie then getting his head popped by Abraham Lincoln with a Jesus complex then fuck yeah in fearing it
BRO NO FUCKING WAY I JUST PLAYED THE GAME AND WAS REALLY CONFUSED BY IT, YOU ARE A GODSEND
Perfect timing then! Lol. Hope it helped explain some things for you! Thanks for watching!
wtf i just beat this game 15 minutes ago and i looked it up and i see this video just got uploaded. wow
Perfect timing! :)
Thanks for watching!
Remember getting this game on the Xbox game pass some years ago, super underrated.
Thx for vid!!
So I have an exam to prepare for, but I guess that can wait.
Good luck on the exam! Hope this didn't detract from your study session too much!
Thanks for watching!
I’m surprised that you cover this game, because i was searching for an explanation to the story, and i saw your video! This video was before 9 days! Although the game released in 2016! Thanks man, it was an amazing video!
Yo I remember telling you to recommend you this game bro thanks so much bro you the freaking best bro keep it up bro
It's because of recommendations like yours that I did it! I would have never even known about the game otherwise! Thank you for recommending it! And thanks for watching!
Man I loved this game so much, I through,y enjoyed the background effects of gun shots near the start and how the chaos just occurs. Thanks for the video!
Oh boy I’ve been waiting for this one.
Sorry about the wait! Hope you were able to enjoy! Thanks for watching!
@@SquatchGamingChannel I was it was very much worth it, especially since I never even realized that their was 200 foot aliens in the first place . I always figured they were just an off screen threat that we never saw.
I wish more youtubers played this game, it has so much potential to be an amazing piece of worldbuilding!
Man I just finished the game before watching this absolutely loved the game I remember watching jacksepticeye play the game a long while ago and now it was my time to play and I loved it it’s so interesting and I’m still shell shocked by the ending
Man I absolutely love your videos I found you in your Lisa the painful videos and that got me into Lisa the painful those were amazing videos and got me hooked to your content also you got a good voice man it really gets me focused in the story and what your talking you deserve so much more recognition for the work you do God bless
