Constantine The Great - Paganism to Christianity | Episode 1 | Lineage

  • Join us as we begin our journey exploring Emperor Constantine the Great, the man who transformed Rome's religious beliefs from Paganism to Christianity. The conversion of Constantine changed the Christian landscape immeasurably. Before a battle with Maxentius in 306AD, Constantine believed he saw a cross shape in the sky from God, and heard the words "By this sign you shall conquer". He took this as a sign to convert to Christianity. This event would lead to the persecution of God’s faithful believers from within the church, and the beginning of a clear distinction between the two branches of Christianity that would emerge. The emperor became a great patron of the Church, and set a precedent for the position of the Christian emperor within the Church.

Constantine never converted, since he was a high priest he held the title of Pontifix Maximus. He was the high priest of sun worship, he received baptism on his death bed. He seclerized Christianity together with the church in Rome and established pagan customs such as Sunday worship, Christmas, Eater etc.

Sadly to say, persecution will come again in the future according to Revelation 13 before the return of Jesus to this earth. God will truly know who will surrender all to HIM because they love HIM more than the world and themselves. Lord , please help us to stand in the faith of you as those who gave their life because they love you unmeasureable.

Personally, I dont think the day in which we worship is essential to our salvation as much as the day we give our heart to Yahshua. But I do understand what you're saying and you are correct. I have been questioning many practices in the Christian church.

Why don’t we call it the 9 commandments and let everyone decide themself what the 10th commandment should be? It’s so inconvenient to give a whole 24 hour day to God. It’s probably a slippery slope. Before you can say “and God rested on the 7th day…” I won’t be able to do what I want the other 6 days. Let’s keep arguing it’s a good distraction to buy us sometime so we have no accountability.

Constantine never converted. He still held to his pagan beliefs and practices. He saw Christian’s as an opportunity for more political power. So he masked it with the false narrative of “a conversion”. He even rewrote church history (“church fathers”) to centralize power around himself and Rome.

I would like to know the source of pagan gods turned into saints. As far as I know the Coptic Church started by apostle Mark in 44 AD Egypt(devoid of paganism) also had the same practices. Perhaps the statues of the gods were turned into Christan statues but beyond that I can see no more correlation. A statue back then was also a way to speak stories to the masses who were illiterate. The people that suffered persecution by the roman church were the heretics, I.e people who denied the trinity, the Cathars and the gnostics who abstained from marriage and starved themselves to death claiming it to be in accordance with the word of God.

Is the Catholic Church Jesus’ original church?
The quotes provided below are historical facts in reference to our early church which existed prior to Romes adoption of Christianity in 313 A.D.
      Church:
      * "Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.” [St. Ignatius of Antioch - Letter to the Smyrneans 8 (c. A.D. 110)]
      Bishop, Priest & Deacon:
      * “Since, then, I have had the privilege of seeing you, through Damas your most worthy bishop, and through your worthy presbyters Bassus and Apollonius, and through my fellow-servant the deacon Sotio, whose friendship may I ever enjoy, because he is subject to the bishop as to the grace of God, and to the presbytery as to the law of Jesus Christ [St. Ignatius of Antioch- Letter to the Magnesians 2 (c. A.D. 110)].
      Eucharist:
      * “Take note of those who hold heterodox opinions on the grace of Jesus Christ, which have come to us, and see how contrary their opinions are to the mind of God... They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, Ash that suffered for our sins and that the Father, in his goodness, raised up again. They who deny the gift of God are perishing in their disputes.” [St. Ignatius of Antioch - Letter to the Smyrnaeans 6-7 (c. A.D. 110)].
      Scripture:
      * “[W]hoever perverts the sayings of the Lord for his own desires, and says that there is neither resurrection nor judgment, is the firstborn of Satan. Let us leave the foolishness and the false teaching of the crowd and turn back to the word that was delivered to us in the beginning.” [St. Polycrap of Smyrna - Letter to the Philippians 7 (c. A.D. 135)].
      Sunday:
      * “But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead.” [St. Justin Martyr - First Apology 67 (c. A.D. 151)].
      Actions/Works:
      * “We have learned from the prophets, and we believe it is true, that punishments, and chastisements, and good rewards, are rendered according to the merit of each man's actions. If it is not so, then all things happen by fate, and nothing is in our own power. If it is fated that this man be good, and this other evil, the former is not meritorious nor the latter blameworthy [St. Justin Martyr - First Apology 43 (c. A.D. 151)].
      Apostolic Succession:
      * “It is within the power of all, in every church, who may wish to see the truth, to contemplate clearly the Tradition of the apostles manifested throughout the whole world; and we are in a position to reckon up those who were instituted bishops in the churches by the apostles, and [to demonstrate] the succession of these men to our own times; those who neither taught nor knew anything these [heretics] rave about.” [St. Irenaeus of Lyons - Against Heresies 3:3:1 (c. A.D. 189)]
      Baptism:
      * “The children shall be baptized first. All the children who can answer for themselves, let them answer. If there are any children who cannot answer for themselves, let their parents answer for them, or someone else from their family.” [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 21 (c. A.D. 215)].
      Confession:
      * “After this, one of the bishops present, at the request of all, laying his hand on him who is ordained bishop, shall pray this way: O God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. pour forth the power that is from you, of "the princely Spirit' that you delivered to your beloved Child, Jesus Christ, and that he bestowed on your holy apostles, who established the Church that hallows you everywhere, for the endless glory and praise of your name. Father, "who knows the hearts [of all]” grant this servant, who you have chosen for the episcopate, to feed your holy flock and serve as your high priest blamelessly night and day, and unceasingly turn away wrath from your face and offer to you the gifts of the holy Church. And that by the high priestly Spirit he may have authority "to forgive sins" according to your command.” [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 2-3 (c. A.D. 215)].
      Confirmation:
      * “The bishop will then lay his hand upon them, invoking, "Lord God, you who have made these worthy of the removal of sins through the bath of regeneration, make them worthy to be filled with your Holy Spirit, grant to them your grace, that they might serve you according to your will, for to you is the glory, Father and Son with the Holy Spirit, in the holy Church, now and throughout the ages of the ages. Amen." After this he pours the oil into his hand, and laying his hand on each of their heads, says, "I anoint you with holy oil in God the Father Almighty, and Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit." Then, after sealing each of them on the forehead, he shall give them the kiss of peace and say, "The Lord be with you." And the one who has been baptized shall say, "And with your spirit." So shall he do to each one [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 21-22 (c. A.D. 215).
      Peter’s Authority:
      * “The Lord says to Peter: "I say to you,' he says, “that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not overcome it. And to you I will give the keys of the kingdom of heaven. [Mt 16:18-19]. On him he builds the Church, and commands him to feed the sheep [Jn 21:17], and although he assigns a like power to all the apostles, yet he founded a single chair [cathedra], and he established by his own authority a source and an intrinsic reason for that unity. Indeed the others were also what Peter was [apostles], but a primacy is given to Peter, by which it is made clear that there is one Church and one chair.... If someone does not hold fast to this unity of Peter, can he think that he holds the faith? If he deserts the chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, can he be confident that he is in the Church?.” [St. Cyprian of Carthage - Unity of the Catholic Church 4; first edition (Treatise 1:4) (A.D. 251)].
These few topics (but a glimpse) were not only discussed but settled BEFORE Rome adopted Christianity (The Catholic Church) and eventually became The Roman Catholic Church as it also adopted its name after 313 A.D.
Is the Catholic Church Jesus’ original church? Yes!
Does this excuse all its mistakes and sins from the record? Of course not! As Christians, we are called to hold the church accountable, not leave it and let evil flourish within it.
This refusal of accountability within every Christian has led to over 40,000 diferente Christian churches and the ignorance which has flourished from it.
“This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.” Ephesians‬ ‭4:13-15‬
We are called by God to unite! What better church to do it under than the one he started.

Thanks for that👍🏻 Constantine never became Christian… no repentance, no change of lifestyle, just greed of power and sticking to his old ways and just worshiping some god. If he really had a vision of some sort of cross it doesn’t really matter as the spiritual power behind it was not Jesus Christ.
Constantine was a talented political and military leader, and merging his view of Christianity with some pagan beliefs was just a political tool useful for him. He was definitely a pioneer in creating a global religion.

The original Christian teaching was an oral tradition plus what Jesus said, but it was not written, as the Bible writes. And the second source of faith is the Scripture, or the Bible. If heretics, even part of the first church, taught delusions that only the Bible is Christianity, Rome persecuted them. It is necessary to realize that the Church is still the only one. The Church of Christ, Catholic. It is not the concept of the first church, nor of today's Catholic Church. The Church is the mystical body of Christ, as well as the institutions of the people and all their members here on Earth. The Bible from all the books and writings it contains is the work of the Church. The Church, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, decided what the Bible would be, what all Jesus taught outside of it. This is what God and the Church know about, because Jesus commissioned apostles, they gave you the teachings to bishops and bishops. Of course, it is a matter of faith. It is impossible to prove directly the existence of God. Do not even deny it. However, I follow the faith with reason and seek truthful information, not as atheists, Protestants and Satan distort them.

Figy, I agree that we must continue to study and apply truth as it opens to our understanding. Jesus gave us a methodology to see that this is done correctly. Consider the following account in Mark 7:7-13:
"Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye."
Was Jesus Christ guilty of disseminating anti Semitic propaganda? Or, were these teachings of the Jewish fathers simply shown to be contradictory to the standards already set by the law and the prophets. Truth be known, if we remove the scriptures from the equation there is no reliable method to detect error. Isaiah 8:20 reads: "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." All extra-biblical teachings have to meet this standard of scrutiny to be accounted "new light." The Protestant Reformation occurred when the Bible was restored to its rightful place and dogmas endorsed for centuries by the church fathers were shown to be erroneous. The same issues were brought to bear when Christ was persecuted by the Sanhedrin. It's not about being anti Catholic. I know many Catholics that are wonderful people who are sincere in their commitment to serve Jesus Christ, as I am sure you are.
Martin Luther was a sincere Catholic as well. He simply desired to protest against what he saw as non-Biblical doctrines that had crept into the church. Furthermore, if he, after identifying these points of scriptural contradiction, remained silent he would have done so at the peril of his own soul.
Ezekiel 3:17-21 reads: "Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul."
Thus, the true spirit of Protestantism is rooted in the protection of the pure faith once delivered to the saints. History tells us that men have, at times, made mistakes with the way they handle God's word. But, we serve a God who keeps his promises: "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it" Isaiah 55:11.
Glad to have a forum to discuss these issues and I respect your freedom to "prove all things and hold fast that which is good" according to the dictates of your own conscience. Blessings to you as you continue to grow in Christ.

@@zyedhez8642 We are to rest on the Sabbath. I agree. We can rest and still honor and hold Him in high esterm. I guess what I was trying to say is that on the true Sabbath is when we are to worship Him special. It isn't wrong to travel to worship God. People travelled from all over to worship Jesus and hear Him speak. If a man heals someone on the sabbath and has to travel to do it, God approves. It's in the bible. We are to do God's work on the sabbath, like healing someone, not the worlds work for our own benefits. That's the difference. Regardless, if we are resting from manual work, in effect that still is a form of worship because when we follow the 10 commandments we are honoring Him, which is also a form of worship. Look up definition of worship.

@@zyedhez8642 God never said He didn't want to be disturbed. God is available 24/7 for His people. So is His Son Jesus. There is a difference in what calendar is used. The original biblical calendar Jesus followed was the lunar or Luni calendar. Rome changed the calendar to the Gregorian calendar which switched the days around and even eliminated a few days because Caesar Augustus wanted a month named after him, thus the month of August. Other days of the week are named after the pagan gods that they worshipped. Look up the origins of the calendar according to Hebrew vs.Roman. On the lunar calendar, the first day of the week was Sunday. Also the measuring of days was different. Each day started at sunset to sunset which was from around 6 p.m. to 6 p.m., the following day, not midnight to midnight. Thus, the real Hebrew/ Jewish sabbath is Friday sunset to Saturday sunset.

They did that because they said that the Sabbath was coming so it's not right for them to be on the cross. The first day of the week, He rose again. Now let's look at the calendar. The world agrees that Christ died on Friday (Good Friday) and arose on Sunday (Easter). So what is the day in between them which the Jews called the "Sabbath". It was Saturday.
