the potion of natural learning resets your knowledge points, the potion of bestial memory resets your attributes. so you can spend them differently if needed. you should be able to make them in alchemy bench as well. the scourge stone you found is 1 of 3 scourge stone pieces, another was in the passage you found before, and the other is in a cave called Gallaman's tomb, once you find all 3 you take them to the sand swept ruins and let the sandstorm maniac restore them to 1 piece, its one of the items you will need to remove the bracelet if you ever want to. that is the overall goal of the game really, but if you remove the bracelet and finish the game, you win the right to delete your character and start all over, so i generally collect all the pieces but never finish by taking them all to the final location and doing the ritual.
dont know why you had no recipes showing on the sorcery table? maybe because it was placed before in creative? at the least you should be able to upgrade your tome, or maybe you have to put the tome on the table inventory first. i rarely use sorcery but i do upgrade it for a few things, 1 summon corpse spell, in case you die in a hard to get back to area you can summon your corpse to the summoning circle to retrieve your gear, 2 for the potion to respec you thralls perks, i forget what its called, and 3 for the last spell the transporatory stone.
You could have used the ice bridge spell in the cavern and got across the gap and got some loot.

never done the cats, but i think its small animal pen to tame them.
You just need to put the stray cat in an animal pen like anything else, feed them, and then you get a Housecat and can place it.
