  • Picked this radio up for one heck of a deal on eBay over the summer. It was about 1/4 of the cost they are gong for now.
How is it? Well, I love it, it has a great deep sound even on AM/Shortwave, and it has a very sensitive recover. I still love my Radio Shack DX-390 more, simply because it takes up less room, but this certainly is a fine radio.

I got the Tecsun branded S2000 about three weeks ago. I’ve had incredible results with the built-in whip, a longwire, and an MLA-30+. I really enjoy DXing with it. I’ve been running it with batteries to reduce potential noise and they last forever in this thing.

Great radio, very familiar as a Grundig previously, as others have mentioned.
91.5 MHz FM would give you something different in the UK or at least in South Yorkshire, that frequency we receive BBC Radio 3 (the arts, classical music network)
LW in Europe is almost coming to an end. RTE Radio 1 (Ireland) on 252kHz closed sometime last year and BBC Radio 4 on Long Wave 198kHz is to close in March 2024. The end of an era, as the frequency for BBC on LW has been around since the 1930s! Also the BBC on LW was instrumental in WWII, for sending messages to our Allies across Europe.
Before Radio 4, it carried BBC Radio 2 (our MoR network) among others.

I have one a few months, mine works great across all the ham bands. I have it wired up to a 10’ brass curtain rod above my desk an it has very good overall ears with that in all bands. The slightly wobbly dial is the only clinker on there, but it works fine. Good filter too.

I have 2 short wave radios for a direct comparison:
1.) The Tescun S-2000 (Eton 750) with an Tescun An-48x antenna below the roof top and
2.) the Tescun PL-990x with an Tescun AN-03L antenna in my living room.
The S-2000 is a very nice and stylish radio with a very good sound but imo the PL-990x is the better shortwave and ultra short wave (in English: FM) receiver. The problem I have with the S-2000 is that I have sometimes a brilliant reception and hours late its poor with lots of noise and other side effects. My be its an antenna problem. I'm still learning. In the end I love it too. By the way: Operating/Tuning the S-2000 helped me to understand the PL-990x better.

Warning: The 6v DC power supply requires a non-standard Center Pin Negative Polarity. If you utilize a Positive Center Pin Polarity power supply by accident it'll be toast as the board lacks reverse polarity protection. Nice set though Eric, despite the critics. I own two myself. Very much enjoy your content.📻

You gotta try a CCrane Justice antenna in addition to the AM rotating antenna. When you get the Justice try to obtain a 3mm plug adapter to plug in on the rotator antenna. You’ll absolutely LOVE the performance. I did this on my Grundig Satellit 750 which is the same exact set.

I've had the Tecsun S-2000 version (same radio, different branding I gather) for a couple of years. A really great, comprehensive allrounder that is very hard to fault IMHO. And despite comments, I'd suggest the retail price is actually very reasonable. Would thoroughly recommend it as a "one stop shop" radio receiver for the semi-serious enthusiast and a handy backup/"quick look-see radio receiver" for the dedicated enthusiast with a selection of Icom/Yaesu/Kenwood etc etc...

I have had one for a few years and agree that this is overall a really good shortwave receiver, is quite sensitive, and audio is really clear and loud. I have it currently hooked to my scanner antenna (certainly not tuned for the HF bands) and receive even in the tight valley where I live; it works surprisingly well for both SW and FM.
A few complaints, one, I am not a fan of lightweight plastic for base units - maybe showing my age, but I like heft and durability. VFO knob, as much as I use it, I wish it had a much better control and knob. But my biggest complaint, and I have yet to open it up and to implement a solution - if using external power and there is a power outage, it does not fall back to battery power for time and alarm retention. Once internal capacitors discharge, clocks are lost. I do not use memory features so I do not know if that is lost on power loss with the plug in. Power outages are a frequent part of life where I am in Western NC mountains. The loss of clock is irritating, but certainly not a deterrent for purchase.
One caution, the power plug is 6V and is reverse polarity from 99% of everything else on the market. I have mine on a 12 bus powering other gear, but use an inexpensive 12v-6v DC-DC converter for this receiver. I was relieved when I double checked polarity markings on the connector when assembling.
    Thanks for all you do!

I bought a used Grundig Satellit 800 off of Ebay years ago and still have it. The radio is excellent too but even used is was higher priced verses the Eton Elite 750.
The radio did not come with a power supply block and I did find one but the power supply block is noisy on SW and a linear power supply would need to be used
with the Grundig Satellit 800 radio. Finding the original power supply is hard to find and that's the only drawback to that radio.

    • @ezl8002
      @ezl8002 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Apparently, Grundig did not put enough filtering in the radio's external DC supply and People have complained about it over the years. The switching
power supplies are the problem showing up when using several of the Ham bands and lower frequencies. Using a pack of D-Cells gets rid of the noise
but that radio will flatten D-Cells fast with it's current draw. A Linear power supply solves the RF noise problem with that radio.

Do you need the ground wire hooked up all the time or just when your using the sw wire. And what kind of plug goes in the lw/mw directional antenna ?

    • @FarpointFarms

Somebody said that the narrow filter is too narrow and wide is too wide without a compromise. Does the telescopic antenna rotate to receive horizontal polarization on USW? Strange that they went for an expensive, disposable D-cell battery while other Tecsun radios have a lithium battery.
Why do no radios, even the more "serious" ones go above 30 MHz?

    • @FarpointFarms

LW is Long Wave, which was only ever used in Europe and South America as far as I know. 100 - 500 khz, while AM / Medium Wave is 500 - 1700 khz.
Air band is VHF, 120 - 130 mhz or so (just above the FM broadcast band, but is actually AM). Since it's vhf it's line of sight, so you won't hear much unless you are near an airport. If you get lucky you'll hear some planes calling in overhead but that'll be a few seconds of transmission.

    • @PsRohrbaugh
      @PsRohrbaugh ปีที่แล้ว

Remember that the human ear can hear 0 - 20 khz, so radio waves at 100 khz are really low frequency in the RF world.

What you are calling air band (LW) I never get anything either except when at the coast, NJ shore, FL coast. Next time I go to the nearby Bahamas I will test the band outside US. I would think long wave would be for short distance ground wave and not for propagation. That Eton looks sweet. How much are they? Thanks so much.

Sadly, not much. SW broadcasting is in a dreadful state of decline, and the utility stations have largely abandoned HF for satellite. That leaves geriatric ham radio operators and their navel-gazing discussions of their radios, the weather, their ailments, the weather, their radios, and the weather. A good radio but it has short comings. The wide and narrow bandwidth positions are not the greatest. Too wide is the worst thing. I don't care for the AGC action either. For best AGC action riding the RF gain and volume is required. The reception of SSB using the BFO could be better. Why not a dedicated USB/LSB switch position? And while they were at it why not add a CW position and filter? The nice points are the overall styling and size. So much handier then the Grundig/Eton/Tecsun 800. The metal knobs are great and I liked the rotatable AM antenna. The display and backlight are very nice. All in all a good radio but I don't think it's value is in the 400-500 dollar range.

Well first of all, given everything that's now happening, people's highest priority is to buy or if necessary build a top of the line TUBE type radio. People should be spending thier money on a working or repairable R-390, R-392, R-388 or a Hammerlund Super Pro 600 or a National
HRO 50 or Sixty Second choices would be other Hammerlund's especially the 180 or 180 JX, or Certian
    Hallicrafters can be OK
If you're looking for a solid state radio a lot of recent military super radios are available Like discontinued
Collins, Harris, Raytheon etc There are a group of British And European military grade receivers and transmitters both tube and ruggedized solid state.

These radios do feel cheap and plasticky until you put in the D cells, then they get quite heavy. They do receive very well though and I like that all the bands have inputs for external antennas even the medium wave BCB. What I don't like about it is the lack of a fine tuning control that makes it hard to tune in SSB on shortwave.
